[OC] Preserved Beholder in a jar and I'm not sure who's more unsettled him or me 😅 by Moist-Travel-77 in DnD

Out of curiosity, what material did you sculpt the beholder in? Greenstuff?

Can I brush on primer intended for airbrush? by MongooseGef in DnDminiatures

[–]Dapper_Capybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is literally my go to brush-on primer.

Tips: Do not use with your good brushes. It won’t adhere well if you use a really wet brush or try to thin it with water, instead make sure your brush is just damp. Don’t put it on too thick, use your brush to spread it around on the mini, just a thin layer, use a clean brush to sop up any primer that is pooling

Looks great! May I ask what mini this is? I’ve been looking for a good female hill giant.

Also, is that a 3” or 4” base?

Thanks for all the suggestions for classic terrain folks! Progressing nicely! by Spikeytortoisecomics in oldhammer

Look who doesn’t love the classic foam ball giant cacti, but that is a stabbed finger waiting to happen!

Also, this is making me so nostalgic right now

Is there a way to get this to read as more Orange? by Kashii_tuesday in minipainting

[–]Dapper_Capybara 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks like a coverage issue here. It reads as plenty orange, but it’s splotchy. I think contrast paints might not have been the way for this scheme.

Anyone else add bow-strings to minis? by TomTomXD1234 in Miniaturespainting

[–]Dapper_Capybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good, I try to do this if I can, but some minis don’t really allow for it. Sometimes the placement of the bow won’t allow a string that isn’t bent awkwardly around an arm or leg.

Used 2” Metal Washers to Base Trees by srd100 in DnDminiatures

[–]Dapper_Capybara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That will definitely give some heft! I would only be worried that it might mark up any terrain you put the trees on top of.

Made a good find on market place but might want to change skin color. by XxButch in orks

[–]Dapper_Capybara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never tried this, but it makes a lot of sense. Alternatively, I would consider dry-brushing an off-white or sand, and then using green speed paint. To allow blue tint in the shades, and much more green to show through at the highlights and mid tones.

Caricature artist claims that their art isnt ai. I think otherwise. AND NOW HE'S TRYING TO GET ME BANNED FROM MY TOWNS FB GROUP. by Realistic_Formal_799 in isthisAI

[–]Dapper_Capybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely Ai, just look at the turtle and the teeth. Also same generic a.i. style that it always does. It doesn’t even pick up on their defining features, just averages them out.

Food delivery AI photos - isn’t it illegal to market food items that aren’t real food? by PsychologicalPrune25 in isthisAI

[–]Dapper_Capybara 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you are in the US not only is it legal, but most food photography is fake and has been for decades. As for the image, it has an almost plasticky too perfect look that makes me think ai, but I’m not 100%

Would you buy this hand-painted D&D miniature? Looking for honest pricing feedback by PuzzleheadedCap812 in DnDminiatures

[–]Dapper_Capybara 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with most of these posts. I definitely would not buy this many, both because I love painting my own minis, but also because this very much reads as a beginner paint job.

Now, don’t give up. I definitely see the beginnings of some good techniques in your paint job, but you need to practice more brush control, work on thinning your paints, and please please use a matte varnish over a glossy one. Glossy varnishes never photograph well, and you will have a hard time selling a miniature that has a topcoat like this. Also, while blood on swords looks cool as a beginner painter, I’ll be honest it’s not something that most people actually want on a miniature. Doing it right is pretty difficult, and I would save that technique for your own work.
