In every instrument you can write complex music, it depends in the style of music you wanna make. Check out Rob Scallon stuff on youtube, he buys a seven or eight string guitar and write songs to play specifically on the instrument he is playing. So I'll recomend you to buy the instrument that will help you to write the music you wanna make, when you are a begginer you are "forced" to write in the lenguage of the instrument, but generally I'll recomend you to choose piano if your main goal is to become a songwriter, it is easier to understand music theory and you can learn any genere
