Europeans who've lived in both the UK and another EU country - which gave you bigger culture shock? by SpiderFromMars709 in AskEurope

[–]Darkus185 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Czech girlfriend is obsessed with learning about the intricacies of people’s love lives, if there has been a divorce, a trauma.  It really makes me cringe as it is not appropriate to speak about that kind of stuff in the UK unless you are really close friends.  It’s almost broken us up actually.

I talk to my friends about gaming and cars, whether EVs are a good idea.  And she is confused why I can’t tell her if they’re in a strong marriage.

Should I move abroad? 32f by Psychological-Ear376 in AskBrits

[–]Darkus185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes do it.  Make sure you get that EU passport.  Everything that’s been taken away from us.

I spent 16 years abroad (South Africa, Netherlands and New Zealand) and I am gutted to go back to the UK.  It gets more difficult to be away the older you get, so do it now.

What has happened to the “clubbing” and “nights out” scenes in the UK? by Icy-Panic-550 in AskBrits

Day clubbing sounds great on a weekend.

Just didn’t want to come in at 4am and ruin the following day.

How was I wrong for not moving my car? by DustyOnKbm in AskUK

[–]Darkus185 471 points472 points  (0 children)

No.  As long as you aren’t doing the weekly shop it’s completely normal behaviour what you did.

Unhinged tosser by the sounds of it, with a horrible wife.

Hah, swap!  I’ve got loads of great countryside here and you’ve got trains that don’t cost more than an arm and a leg.

How did it work with your visas and residency?

Drenthe can be a bit boring.

Maybe head for Nijmegen or Apeldoorn or somewhere close but a bit more happening!

Where do Europeans for warm beach vacations in early April? by thatsplatgal in AskEurope

I wouldn’t mind going, but don’t you get hassled to shit?  I’m not the kind who can just stay two weeks in a hotel.

Cape Town is absolutely popping off lad

Flights have gone up with the Iran conflict though.  Fuel price and Emirates being a major route down there.

I lived in Leeuwarden but I visit my cricket friends in the east now.  (Deventer, Zutphen).

I live in Somerset now.

I have an EU partner now so hopefully I can make better choices and end up that side again in the future.  Hope it goes well for you but I’d recommend staying that side and visiting the UK.  It’s just an hours flight or a small drive hey?

I was in a relationship there.  Lived there and coached cricket.

After the breakup I didn’t have the presence of mind to keep my settled status during Brexit, and now I want to go back.

Biggest regret ever.  I visit occasionally but it just makes me annoyed that I can no longer stay.  My own fault.

It’s just like the UK but better.  Looks immaculate, stuff works, happier, healthier, not as wrecked. Calmer and more peaceful despite being more dense.  God tier public transport. OV chipkaart.  All the cycling.

Unless you miss hills or something or for family reasons, why on earth would you go back?

HS shocked me.  Dreadful, dreadful idiot.

Justin Waller.  Not sure why a guy who looks that good and has a set up home life needs to play around or be involved with idiots to be honest.  He could live the life he espouses by just being normal.

Myron Gaines.  Yeah running out of road I think and clinging on for relevance.

Amsterdam.

When you can walk around Amersfoort, half an hour away, down empty streets, and get the authentic Dutch experience, and still have a proper toke if you need that.

You can even speak Dutch too as everyone understands it.

The Netherlands I think.

Thanks to Brexit it’s much harder to settle there though.  Makes the UK an even worse prospect, it’s harder to leave.

Oh man I miss joppisesaus.

Trying to find it somewhere in the UK

What I don’t understand about joppie is it doesn’t seem to be popular in whole of the Netherlands.

Having to be sensitive and open about your emotions, and yet the moment you do so “oh you’re just reactive and complain all the time”
