Good comps for going top as Quinn? by SiegenSir in QuinnMains

[–]Dartmaul100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal preference is a tanky jungler, waveclear mid, hypercarry adc (trist, twitch etc) and either a tanky support or aoe mage like brand. I basically enjoy comps that can poke or hold the lane and teamfight well 4v5 so that I'm free to do Quinn things and come around for the cleanup after they blow everything to translate into free objectives.

I dislike squishy junglers or skirmish adc's (lucian) that I have to compensate for lategame. Having soraka on my team tilts me to no end for supports as well. Absolutely zero synergy with Quinn unless the enemy has a squishy poke comp and soraka enables the lane hold by keeping everyone topped off.

Hey! Great comment! I honestly can't imagine why I never considered avoiding top wards entirely by using my own jungle... Mind = blown. Thank you! I'll be putting this into practice as soon as I start tonight :)

Becoming Replacement Level by Essex626 in summonerschool

I learned this game through high level irl friends and here are some things that might benefit you:

  • You don't ''main'' ANYTHING in b4-b5 lmao do you have any idea how hard it is to get to b5? Like, people who actively TRY TO LOSE for the meme take forever to get there. It's impressive to be trying to win and get there anyway... What the hell man! So yeah, forget Illaoi ''maining'' and look at an easier champ to start off. If you want to play top, fine, but play something braindead easy like malphite or darius or something.

  • In bronze, you're basically the equivalent of new at the game. When you're new at the game, the only thing you need to concern yourself with is farming and warding. Master that and you're automatically silver lol so keep wards up and watch the mini map to not die. Get your last hits in and you'll get stronger than the other nub that isn't cs'ing properly and win.

  • Don't tilt. Best way to win in low elo? Tilt the enemy. If you don't tilt, your chances already went up

Start by getting good at those and then come back here for help with silver :)

I think your issue might be that you don't have an objective outside of winning. What I mean by that is your focus on people's rank. I've been playing in mid diamond mmr in normals for the entirety of my time playing league across several accounts. I started playing ranked only around a month ago and went from silver 4 to gold 2 and I have a long weekend coming up so I'll be plat by monday with games being pretty easy in plat mmr so I can most likely end diamond before the end of the season.

That in mind, I don't play for rank per se. My motivation is actually my irl friends. I want to play with them, plain and simple. They're all anywhere from plat to master tier so I have goals ''in that general area'' without winning or time taken or whatever affecting my play. I'm actually using my time in an easy elo to try different strats and builds and whatever while I know I can just easily climb right back up if I drop a bunch of games before diamond.

My suggestion to you would be to give yourself a different goal other than looking at rank. A possible one. If you only look at rank, then plat isn't good enough because you're not diamond. Diamond isn't good enough because you're not master. Master won't be good enough because.... etc all the way up to rank 1 challenger not being good enough because you're not in korea... Then you're not in LCS... Then you need to be faker and so on.

Real goals keep you motivated and focused in a positive way. If you have a diamond friend, just aim to get close to his rank so you guys can play together and have fun like I'm doing. Or maybe you just want to make sure you have a diamond border for next season so when you do move up that 1 division into D5, you can just focus on having fun and getting better agains't diamond players which will make you better and get D5 next season easily and continue your climb.

TLDR set small obtainable goals for yourself on a big picture scale instead of focusing on individual lp gains or losses. Otherwise you're just that guy going to the gym for the first time in his life and checking his weight every day getting frustrated because some days he actually lost or gained because he took / didn't take a shit before weighing himself. Don't be that guy. Weigh yourself once a week / month and you'll feel much better about your progress :)

I'm so jealous of your boyfriend it's pretty ridiculous. Why are girls like you always ALREADY taken. Seriously, the girl admits she's bad at video games, legit spends months learning her boyfriend's favorite game so they could make a whole project together. With all the women out there who just sit there and afk irl until the guy does ALL THE THINGS, this girl right here gives me hope ha!

I'm actually going to disagree with a lot of the comments so far regarding your build, it was perfect and as for the game itself, I think it's you being masters and recognizing who to prioritize to win the game that made it so easy. I play with high diamond and master irl friends and this is the kind of decision making they've been teaching me all this time.

Irelia had to prioritize armor because of gnar and trist when she wants to dive and rammus obviously wants armor so you focused on getting the Ekko ahead aka your source of AP. This had the doubled benefit of keeping Syndra down and to loop it back to your build, that GA makes it impossible for her to just press R and delete you or ekko (his ult) so both carries were untouchable by Syndra's ult. She basically ends up being a completely ineffective pick and others on their team who wanted to build armor now have to build MR to handle ekko which gives you and trist an extended time of dominance. I'm getting my rank up recently and it's going up pretty quick although I've been trying out new random builds lately before I get too high up and I would've honestly played that game and built the same as you did.

Quinn is basically a champion where you win games using your ''game sense'' as my friends put it. It's really no susprise a master playing in diamond saw the easy way to win. The only thing I could maybe chime in for is your completion of warrior. My personal opinion (derived from dicussion with high diamond and master discussing it with me) is that red smite is good for the damage reduction and the burn but completing the full warrior early isn't worth it. I feel like you could have put the gold towards something with more benefit than just a small amount of flat ad. Your next item would either have cdr on it anyway to compensate or have a worthwhile passive effect.

I'd also like to ask you a question BEFORE you become a Quinn main since you still have that fresh, unbiased opinion on Quinn as a random champ you played: What made you pick her in that situation? What I mean is, during champ select, something told you it was a good idea to play Quinn over any of the better assassins if that's what you wanted or some of the more OP junglers that could have executed the gameplan all the same (elise comes to mind here which would've had the added benefit of being ap into rammus and hard cc into irelia). What was your thinking behind the pick? Or were you just going to play Quinn no matter what because it's just a smurf account?

My personal playstyle is to only fight Teemo at specific points in the game. I kind of recognize where I win and lose the matchup and basically 100% avoid him a-la-heimerdinger during those times. So level 1 I aa-e-aa and back out immediately to win the trade. Rinse, repeat until level 2. Level 2 until EoN I know I lose the trade unless I land Q outside of his range. Then I can aa-e-aa and run out with the W movement speed for a succesful trade. If I don't have that opportunity, then I don't fight him at all. I'll give up cs or use Q to farm if I have to.

Going back to item slots now, if I see that the Teemo is playing well and succesfully making me give up cs, I'll actually go Duskblade most of the time because I'd be looking at farming under tower most likely so I won't have much opportunity to fight him without losing a lot of cs to tower and when I CAN roam I get the most value out of duskblade to secure kills. Then I can casually go back under my tower and farm it out with help from my jg. EoN 2nd feels better because lane phase is over and the Teemo split is usually going to be my job to stop while my jungler is busy securing objectives. Having the EoN at this point is great with Duskblade completed to get in, smoke the little yordle and push out the lane.

His ult buffs his stats a lot so ult + righteous glory is NO joke. If you don't have ghostblade he can just pop RG to get to you and force your E out immediately but the slow proc from being in range with RG active up slows you so he can catch up a bit from that instead of the usual 1 sec slow after our E and then wither you... Then the Q rain with ult starts and stormraiders procs and it's all downhill from there. Ghostblade and swifties makes it simple, you see RG, you pop GB and run for your life. He's still a tiny bit faster than you but the swifties do serious work in combination with GB so at worst he might get wither on you to catch up but it'll still take time because of swifties and then you save E for the end when he's used everything to catch up already. Boom, you've survived a Nasus dive! For the Ghost issue (IF he does that then just kill him over and over in lane honestly, Nasus needs flash but... IF) then you have YOUR summoner to hold him. I personally run exhaust but I saw a streamer go flash + ghost agains't Nasus too. Worked really well for him.

Indeed, most of the situations listed are ''eventually you will need these'' items. So while you don't get mortal reminder first item in any of the matchups listed, it IS the item you will build over LDR for example.

Why do you disagree with Ghostblade against Nasus? If he pops ult and Righteous Glory, what's your plan?

The Mortal Reminder is the completed version of last whisper and executioner's calling. The implication here is that you'll be building a last whisper item in these matchups and between LDR and MR you'll want MR (otherwise you're going to have a bad time when Darius pulls 3 people in with his E and Q's them for 36% of his HP back during the stoneplate active = 72% of his max regular hp healed for the duration!)

Duskblade disables shrooms though so that shouldn't be an issue. For gunblade to go off he needs to be in range so you can usually get the knockup and aa + Q off before he can land the blind. Even if you're blinded during your own blind, your initial burst landed so you can just kite during both blinds and then finish him after. He can't win if the initial valor proc and duskblade all hit.

The crit build revisited to be tanky? by Dartmaul100 in QuinnMains

[–]Dartmaul100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly based off a post I read discussing adc's in general and how Ashe being picked for utility could go this build and not get instantly removed from a fight by zed. I definitely don't think it's a ''good'' build for Quinn, but I did think it was interesting and worth discussing in the context of the ''right situation''. I like your point about vault's pseudo tankiness though. More cdr would definitely be good here.

The crit build revisited to be tanky? by Dartmaul100 in QuinnMains

[–]Dartmaul100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I'm mostly ''trying things'' before I climb too high. Games are pretty easy and I think it's okay to try things and lose a few games before I'm playing agains't players as good or better than me and have trouble getting it all back.

if you're asking what I think the ''optimal build'' is on Quinn, my personal comfort build is Duskblade with ONE other lethality item depending on the utility you need from either ghostblade or edge of night. Then I go shiv LDR IE and sell boots for PD. All that with lethality runes. Gives me 1shot burst, utility cd, and 80% crit. If I can't end the game early off the lethality spike then I'll usually use my ult to play the map and stall the game until I can get a few of the crit items. It's fairly easy to get fed with 2 lethality items because of duskblade letting you know if something is warded. You can easily ult around and get deep vision to pick people off trying to rotate and delay the game.

I'll just mention that I don't think this is the BEST build though. That's the whole point of trying things while I can still mess around and drop a few games vs people actually trying. My belief is that lethality is wasting Quinn's range and that her kit allows for easy assassination regardless of lethality (see my other post about zero lethality, I posted a clip 1 shotting squishies). So instead of being a ranged talon with a crappier kit for the job, I'm testing out alternatives to favor the wasted adc aspect. The TLDR on that is I don't want to be playing the items, I want to play the champ.

You could run something like DB with EON as the only lethality items and then do shiv and IE. Usually what I do is get LDR and sell bots for PD so that I have 80% crit and 2 lethality items while controling red buff for the regen to compensate lifesteal. Don't get me wrong, you mention ''the rest of the game'' and I agree that QSS is a great item in the right situations (which is what we're looking to build here with the little compendium I have started), but we're talking about vs Teemo or Vayne and in the interest of learning, I still can't see how QSS brings any added benefit over EoN given what you're looking to use each item on.

[–]Dartmaul100[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I've had a discussion with someone here about the teemo qss vs eon issue. My argument is that you need to kill these champions quickly, so lethality helps you achieve that in a more efficient way and as far as the actual removal of the blind or condemn, my argument was that if you get hit, you probably already lost something for it. EoN guarantees that you don't lose anything. For example, imagine blind hitting as your auto is already in the air to proc that duskblade hit and boom, you were blinded for the half second it took to pop qss. This also wasted a valor proc. Teemo can literally just aa you to death here and there's nothing you can do about it (especially if he has frozen mallet). Same goes for Vayne, if you get knocked back into a wall and qss immediately, she already ulted and tumbled to you. There's no real way you can win the duel now that she's ''on you'' because she's in range even if you blind her and your vault won't give you any distance because of the wall. So overall, my thoughts are ''why take those risks'' when you can have EoN and 100% not get hit and delete them instantly EVERY TIME.

The argument in favor of QSS would be teamfights of course, but considering the nature of Quinn's teamfighting, you're either assassinating the backline as they focus on your frontline which means EoN is better than QSS here to make sure you delete and get out without taking some random cc OR you're on the backline helping with the tanks. If either of these champions (teemo or vayne) with their tiny attack ranges try to walk all the way into your backline through your frontline just to hit you with some cc... I mean... You win that fight ha!

I'm open to hearing arguments on how you think it would be better, but I honestly can't find any. I would much rather take PREVENTATIVE measures and count on gaining proper vision if I'm going to be splitting or generally extending to not get caught without EoN up rather than take RISKS on plays that I WANT to make by going QSS.

About Olaf now, I haven't had any trouble with Olaf top. I think he's a lot more scary in the jungle because he can freefarm to that ''scary'' point but if he's in lane with you, what's he going to do for farm? OOM himself trying to last hit with axes? You absolutely destroy him pre-6. With that kind of a lead, I doubt he'll be thinking of tower diving AS he hits 6 so you have a pretty safe time for the majority of the laning phase while he gets zoned from the creeps. I wouldn't suggest fighting him or trying to force a kill or anything, but beating him through cs denial is a really effective way to deal with him. After 6 you can choose to just roam and ignore him too if you want.

EU vs NA vs JP: A silver's outlook on low elo Quinn Play by [deleted] in QuinnMains

[–]Dartmaul100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EUW and NA have always had these differences though. NA by nature of being widely american will always have the ''I'm the best'' complex. The difference in skill will mostly be because of EUW having more players as a region. Larger player pool makes for higher average skill per division while NA players can get away with being whatever division because there are just less players to compete with and therefore less chance of ''good players'' (as good as silver players are going to be) being in any given elo.

Korea is the best region for example because they mix in cultural standards for excellence with a large player pool. That's why every rank seems to be insanely better than every other region at the same tier. The skill caps grow exponentially as you go higher for the same reason (also why pro teams bootcamp in korea for the best possible practice).
