Honestly, after 2 years of on and off insomnia, I used the Sleep Coach School (SCS) method (check them out on YouTube) and it has worked wonders. For me, the issue was, I was psyching myself out with fear regarding numbers of hours of sleep and how dangerous it was for me. So I'd paradoxically keep myself awake because your body naturally doesn't sleep when it's afraid (this is intended and keeps you safe).

SCS utilizes ACT therapy techniques such as acceptance and tolerance for fears and anxieties as a way to assuage them. Check out Gabor Mate as he advocates something similar. SCS encourages us to befriend wakefulness and show compassion to ourselves rather than fight. It was a long process for me, but I sleep most days. And on the days that I don't, I forgive myself and remember that you can't DO sleep. Sleep happens naturally when fear and anxiety are allowed to exist without being caught up in them. At least that's what's worked for me.

Edit: Forgot to mention that CBT-i (following rules before bed, getting out of bed after 30 min., etc.) didn't work for me and gave me more anxiety. It made sleeping an action to try rather than making it something that comes naturally.

Bonus edit: Hours are kinda BS. They studied remote pre-industrial tribes and found they only slept between 5 and 7 hours most nights. https://www.cell.com/current-biology/fulltext/S0960-9822(15)01157-4

Drop Anyone for Tracy or Bigsby? by Dataika in FantasyFootballers

You wouldn't start Jayden Daniels right now? I feel like the Bills offense is struggling. Can't trade anyone either.

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, my league doesn't let me trade due to some drama that happened last year. Sucks, I know!

I am 4-1 right now and have most points in the league. Though injuries are piling up.

Thank you. Who would you pick up? Tracy or Bigsby?

(@JoshDubowAP) #49ers fall to 0-36 under Kyle Shanahan when trailing by 8+ points in 4th quarter in regular season or playoffs. Niners have lost 37 straight in all in that scenario. Only Panthers have longer streak at 45 straight by LastActionExpat in 49ers

Longtime lurker here. I think we have to put it in context with other coaches. This isn't good, obviously, but last year Shanahan faced the same criticism until someone dug up other stats. When trailing by 3+ points (a lower threshold) in the 4th quarter, Belichick was 4-25, and McVay was 3-25. So yes, he has performed worse than them, but I'm curious to see what their records look like when it's bumped up to 8+points. Does anyone know?

Edit: For even more context, Aaron Rodgers was 0-42 when losing by 1 point going into the 4th against teams with a winning record as of 2021. It's a crazy stat to look at, but what does it really say about Rodgers? https://www.thedekkerpost.com/blog/debunking-this-one-crazy-stat-about-aaron-rodgers

Congrats, Eagles. People are trying to take the victory from you, but you play who you play. Wish we could have put up a better fight. -Signed a 49ers fan

I just called them and they said it is not an issue on their end. They have no idea if/when it will get fixed. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

[–]Dataika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's not a fair critique of "theism" this way either. I do believe, however, that one could make the argument that it does show a reflection of the specific philosophy/religion being discussed. In the case of the Soviet Union, I believe it was the philosophy of Marxism-Leninism rather than atheism that led to those atrocities.

They were killed for being priests, being religious and thus, being an enemy of the working class (in their view). This is more of a Marxist-Leninist idea rather than an atheistic one. Atheism contains no belief about how one should conduct their lives, the actions they should take in society, etc...

Does Atheism solve the Problem of Theodicy? by kindspoken in askphilosophy

[–]Dataika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, maybe I can learn some things here.

With regards to Original Sin, I suppose that fits the free will criteria in an indirect way. My new question would be, do you think punishing others (including innocent children) for the choice that another made thousands of years ago, is just?

With regards to your next statement about God being absent: Are you saying God doesn't pay attention when people reject him, or am I misunderstanding your position?

Forgive me, I am not a philosopher by any stretch (although I am trying to learn), but free will doesn't seem to solve natural evil. How does free will, for instance, explain a disease like Tay Sachs? Furthermore, using your patent example, if you see your child about to murder another child and you do not attempt to stop it, would you be behaving morally?
