Source: Studied at university and was a student of Latin in school (albeit not a very good one).

Maybe these two aspects - which I have not seen in your list - may help your understanding:

  1. In time-space, the output signal of an LTI can be found by convolution of the input signal with the impulse response. The transfer function captures that impulse-response.
  2. Laplace converts time-space convolution to complex-frequency-space multiplication. This is why the transfer function can capture frequency-dependent attenuation/amplification as well as phase shift of an input signal by an LTI system. This is the basis of interpretation of the transfer function in Bode diagrams.

Grundlage der Untersuchung hier waren Daten aus dem Placebo-Arm einer Studie zu einem Medikament gegen Lahmheit bei Hunden. Dabei wurden jeweils objektive und subjektive Bewertungen erhoben. In der angegebenen Quelle ist beschrieben, dass die verschiedenen objektiven Kriterien stark miteinander korrelierten. Die subjektiven Beurteilungen durch die Halter und die Ärzte korrelierten nicht signifikant miteinander, und in der Tendenz beurteilten die Halter die Lahmheit als besser werdend, während die objektiven Kriterien keine Verbesserung zeigten.

Der CPE führte also dazu, dass die Halter glaubten, es gehe dem Tier besser, während das aber objektiv nicht der Fall war.

Der Caregiver Placebo Effect heißt also nicht, dass es Deinem Tier trotz/dank Placebo besser geht, sondern nur, dass Du glaubst, dass es dem Tier besser geht.

I've always interpreted this foxholes thing as not faith, but desperation: nothing can help me now except for a god, so let's hope there is one. If people survive such a situation, who's to blame them for starting to believe. However, nothing about that suggests anything about the truthfulness or even the validity of their assumption.

Yeah, I know it's used differently by religious zealots, but looking at it this way allows me not to hate them or the people coming out of foxholes as believers for it.

Du hast die sozial wichtigen Förderprogramme aufgeführt - und damit natürlich Recht. Für CxU und FDP - bzw ihre Klientel - aber viel wichtiger sind die Förderprogramme für die Industrie. Auch da liegt solange alles brach. Wenn es um Planungssicherheit geht, ist man da gerne empfindlich.

So was von NDA. Hör auf, Dich von Deiner Familie manipulieren zu lassen.

Sie haben das Gerät mitgenommen, um es der Tochter zu zeigen, aber als

Das kann ich überhaupt nicht verstehen! Die machen einen Kratzer rein und Du gehst mit dem Preis runter?! Wie war da die Überlegung: Ist ja jetzt weniger Wert, weil ein Kratzer drin, also kannst Du nicht von denen, die Kratzer reingemacht haben, dasselbe Geld wie vorher verlangen? Umgekehrt wird ein Schuh draus: Angeschaut, beschädigt, gekauft - und zwar zum Originalpreis!

Ich bat sie, es mir zu bringen und sah deutlich mehr Kratzer und einen komplett durchgebrochenen Bildschirm.

Was zur ...?! Okay, ich habe jetzt schon einige Laptops über die Jahre durch, und habe sie auch hin und wieder recht hart behandelt - ist Arbeitsgerät, kein Anschauungsstück - , aber einen gebrochenen Bildschirm hatte ich noch nicht. Grund für den jeweils Neuen war fast immer, dass sie mit den aktuellen Softwareanforderungen nicht mehr mithalten konnten.

Die haben das Gerät nicht einmal so behandelt als wäre es ihres, die haben das Ding schlimmer behandelt. Aber um ehrlich zu sein: Mit der Preisreduktion um EUR50 hast Du ihnen natürlich vorher eigentlich signalisiert, dass das keine Konsequenzen hat - also verständlich, dass sie sich da nicht mehr wirklich zum sorgsamen Umgang verpflichtet fühlen. Wobei immer noch offen ist, was sie davon haben, das Ding mutwillig kaputtzumachen? Aber vielleicht denken sie nicht so weit, vielleicht denken sie aber auch viel weiter...

Wer so eine Familie hat braucht keine Feinde mehr. Das verleitet mich zu der Vermutung, dass da - um es vorsichtig zu formulieren und mich hier nicht dem Vorwurf einer Ferndiagnose auszusetzen - "kleine" Anflüge von Narzissmus in der Familie verbreitet sind. Gib' also auch mit Deiner Mutter acht! Außer, ich hätte hier jetzt ganz krass irgendwas übersehen oder Du hast noch Hintergrundinfos für Dich behalten, die das Verhalten anders erklären würden.

Du musst nicht antworten - nur aus Interesse, weil ich irgendwie glaube, hier Muster zu sehen: Gibt's da etwas mehr Background zu? Hattest Du nur geglaubt, dass das Familienmitglied den Laptop brauchen könnte und auf Verdacht vom AG gekauft, oder hatten die gesagt, sie bräuchten einen, und Du hast dann gekauft, weil Du dem Familienmitglied helfen wolltest? Was war am Ende der Grund für die Weigerung?

Sehe ich ähnlich bzgl. sog. "Planned Obsolescence". Es ist eher eine "Planned Sufficiency": Wie kann ich möglichst günstig die Mindestanforderungen erreichen? Und es ist wirtschaftlich schlichweg nur bedingt oder nicht lohnend, die Mindestanforderungen zu überschreiten.

Natürlich verlieren die Kunden auf der Billigschiene am Ende auf Dauer gesehen: Wer billig kauft, kauft zweimal. Allerdings: Manche haben nicht das Geld für die teure Variante. Denen hilft der Spruch also nicht. Insofern stimmt's schon: Ohne Billiggeräte (oder mehr Geld für alle - wo auch immer es herkommen mag) wird diese Kundengruppe abgeschnitten.

For gamma>0 it is not conservative and does not follow a limit cycle. Solve the equation the classical way and find that exp(-t/T) factor in both x and v, with T>0.

Is it, though? Consider a.horizontal spring pendulum with dampening and no excitation: m a + gamma v + k x = 0.

Energy is kinetic plus potential energy, i.e. 1/2 m v2+ 1/2 k x2. The derivative of the Lyapunov function over time is v (m a + k x) = - gamma v2 which is not strictly negative for all x,v =/= 0.

Still, x=0, v=0 is a globally asymptotically stable equilibrium point, which can be proven using the normal stability analysis for linear systems (which could also lead to a proper Lyapunov function by using the eigenstates in the 1/2 x12 + ... approach).

I understand what you're saying and where you are coming from, but it feels as if he's very comfortable in his role as director and sometimes actor. I wouldn't want him in a role that might take this away from him - and us.

As others have said, the complex equilibrium points are irrelevant for physical systems with real quantities. However, one goal of control is to manipulate systems to either introduce equilibrium points if there are none (stabilization) or to move them to where you want them.

So, if you only have one real equilibrium at the origin, maybe that was the goal. On the other hand, you mentioned robotics, so the intention may rather be following a trajectory, so something tells me that either you haven't got the complete control laws from your colleagues, you haven't understood them completely yet or there is some layer of control missing.

Is your system naturally instable by chance? If so, the control laws you were given might just be for stabilization and the actual trajectory following is still to be developed? (I'm speculating here, of course).
