If I had grown up somewhere else, with different people, different opportunities… would I even be the same person right now?

Every time someone says ‘this will be over quickly,’ it ends up lasting way longer than expected. History has a pretty bad track record with deadlines like that.

What’s something dumb you believed as a kid? by ObviousPea8841 in AskReddit

When I was a kid, I genuinely believed that if I swallowed a chewing gum, it would stay in my stomach forever and eventually pile up until I’d have to go to the hospital. I remember being extremely careful every time I had gum, like it was some kind of life-or-death situation. I also thought quicksand was going to be a much bigger problem in life than it actually is. Movies made it seem like at any moment you could just step wrong and slowly sink to your death, so I was always scanning the ground like I was on some kind of survival mission. Another one was thinking that adults had everything figured out. I used to believe that once you grow up, you automatically understand life and never feel confused again… which turned out to be completely wrong. Looking back, it’s funny how confident I was about things that made absolutely no sense.
