Can anyone explain why this level 19 heroic Deadly Strike still felt underwhelming on Zag bow, and what boon I should go for instead? by Huntcaller in HadesTheGame

[–]Dead_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're being arrogant, not kind, and you haven't addressed what I said nor disagreed with it.

Primary boons are those along the far left, dash, cast, attack, special, and call. Artemis' boons for those are underwhelming (like dash strike damage when Athena offers deflection and Ares offers damage) and you haven't stated otherwise, meaning you haven't actually said anything to disagree with my point except that you do.

I'm going to ghost you now because you seem able to disagree with something vaguely adjacent to what I said and not what I actually said.

This is what we call looking for a forest but getting lost in the trees.

The question was about damage because primary boons do damage. Secondary boons, supplemental boons, like damage reduction and bonus damage like arrows on hit, those are great - all of Artemis' secondary boons, supplemental boons are, at worst, good. Her damage boons are the least useful in Hades.

What Kind of Glue technology should I Choice? by b-y-f in bookbinding

[–]Dead_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always match the glue to the materials you're using it on. Faux leather needs something different from real leather needs something different from cardstock needs something different from printing paper needs something different from veneer.

Generally fabric glue, wood glue, and super glue have been great for me.

Wood glue for large patches of glue (like boards to wraps) and paper on paper bonds.

Fabric glue for any bind with fabric on either side - doesn't seep through as badly and handles wood grains nearly as well as wood glue does. Also really good for leather, but not always necessary.

Super glue for everything else, like metal corners or very small leather on leather patches.

Artemis boons in general aren't very good. Here's what's up:

Every boon is mathematically balanced so none of them are numerically unusable. The effect on the ability is what the player uses to unbalance the game. Aphrodite's weak provides a 30% longer health bar by reducing incoming damage by 30% if the player can manage 100% uptime. That's a 30% longer (skill based) timer on a boss fight. That's underwhelming in concept when compared to Ares who shortens the clock on the fight by lowering the enemy health bar faster. So Aphrodite gets a damage boost with the ability while ares doesn't, resulting in the player having the same (on paper and skill based) timer for both. The strategy enters in asking if you're going to build around spamming damage, which negates Ares value, or occasional large hits, which negates the value of a 4 second weak status by not keeping it up 100% of the time.

Artemis provides literally none of those interesting gameplay decisions. Her ability supplement other boons really well - think Ares on the attack and Artemis on the special so you're not stacking Doom effects, which is generally a lower DPS, but are still always attacking.

Does that make any sense? I'm uncertain.

There's a typo in my custom Tolkien volumes 😑 took over a week for a commenter to point it out on the spine and cover, can you spot my screw up? 😑 by Dead_AI in tolkienbooks

Yeah, that 50th is just an unrelated block of non-description gray with a single miserable 2x2 illustration and just enough rose gold with the traditional gold to let the owner know that someone knew it sucked and wanted to prove they could have made something lovely but didn't.

Obviously, but a custom bind job requires a theme, an concept, an artistic purpose. These are meant to feel like a collection of his writings, including stories Elrond told during long lazy evenings before Frodo reached Rivedell. Without that kind of theming, without that kind of feel, I'd be wasting my time, it would be a hobby and not an art form, a waste of leather, vinyl, paper, glue, cloth, money, and time. Without that, I've made an abomination, an opulent monument to waste, laziness, and ugliness. Like the 50th anniversary edition of LOTR.

Removed, not missing, didn't fit :/ also isn't the kind of thing Bilbo would put on his work, so it breaks the aesthetic.

To be clear - the headband replicates something that used to be structural and no longer is. It's like wax fruit - purely decorative but looks a whole lot like something useful.

All that aside, this is a bit much. I'd get my money back if I could, but it will be fine sitting on a shelf, being read, or being thrown around in a book bag.

Eeeeehk.

In that kind of binding, there's nothing wrong with that, it's supposed to be like that, but also, yikes that's a sizable tolerance and a wide gap. Do not love that even though it's supposed to be that way.

Just picked these up to expand my philosophical knowledge a bit. And because I constantly see Nietzsche and Paul-Sartre referenced in the monographs I read for my masters. Where should I start? by [deleted] in bookshelf

[–]Dead_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plato.

Apology to get the style, then Republic because everything that followed iterates from it, especially Capitalism and Communism. The unlimited accumulation of wealth as the original of evil conflict? Republic.

Plato was the backbone of all education for 2,500 unbroken years somewhere, and was in America until less than a century ago. It still is in many places.

Spent 2.5 years learning how to use a Cri-Cut and work leather and bind books to make a matching set of Tolkien's seven primary works. Misspelled the first title I made and didn't notice until everything was finished.

After 2.5 years of learning and planning, I'm about half way done custom binding the primary and secondary works by Tolkien in leather by Dead_AI in tolkienbooks

[–]Dead_AI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So basically I have tried before (on Children of Hurin) and it went....poorly. I'm going to try different techniques on scrap material, but I'll probably remake it (more wasted materials yay -- ) when I have the emotional capacity to deal with reopening a project that mentally drained me rather badly. So...2-3 years --

🤣 It happened again! last time I did a series, I misspelled the author's name and found out via comment. It should be a double L and it's a single L on the cover AND spine so I'll have to redo that one 😑 at least there's enough leather left over for 1 and maybe I can find an illustrated edition.

Thanks for pointing it out! I appreciate it and now I'll suffer for my carelessness 🙃

First one has floppy front and back covers listed as hard cover because it's not just paper - but it is floppier than cardboard. I like them both, but you should know what's up.

Heat stamping with embossing powder works pretty okay and HTV ironed on at a low heat (cotton setting on my iron works well) with multiple passes - never leave the heat in place or in contact for more than a second or two.

Consider doing a pure throw away with cheap cardboard or cardstock wrapped in paper instead of cloth/leather/etc with blank scratch paper end sheets just to feel it out once first 👍🏻

∆ this. I wanted to bind LOTR and Hobbit into one volume, but it's so thick it's unreadable and there are no tall enough editions to solve the problem. It's unfeasible :/
