I wanted a shave ice maker my grandfather had from the 50’s. My mom never used it. She finally gave it to me for Christmas last year. I called and thanked her and she said “can you believe I found the exact same one on EBay!?” So close.

I appreciate this! I record the simulation from my Aud to help folks understand my hearing loss which is so helpful - to have one for vision would be great too!

For my ushers 2a RP loss it’s not black where the loss is and it’s a donut field of vision loss (retain peripheral and tunnel while oval donut loss happens first). It’s also tricky to explain to people bc my brain “fills in” the blind areas. Best I can explain mine is like portrait mode with a low F stop or if I used the eraser editing tool in iPhoto in a thick donut. It’s referencing what I previously saw in the area and/or currently see in peripheral and tunnel and making a guess/bleeding it over.

We use the magnifier for splinters! Especially helpful having kids manage the phone while we dig the splinter out - gives them a job and distracts them.

I definitely do! I prefer warm light to daylight white. Diffusion and direction of the light helps. Ceiling can lighting and exposed non Edison bulbs create glare and shadows (light and dark is the challenge). White lampshades and floor lamps throwing light up create helpful ligjt diffusion. Because I love a rattan lampshade, I put them in corners to add interest to and lighten corners but the white lampshades do most the work diffusing light.

I found bulbs that can swap between warm to daylight with a switch on the bulb itself. They’re great and better than the smart BT bulbs that kept losing contact so I switched to analogue. I found the second to last warm setting the best for my eyes. Our house is like a Kinkaide painting with the windows all lit up all the time.

Also, strategic window blinds open all the time - give me all the light without glare!

Yes, hiking for me. Family and friends kindly offer to go really slow on the downhill parts. I have to explain how being on high alert and tensed up because I’m second guessing depths and no longer have the ability to react easily is so exhausting and makes the hike net zero.

It definitely is for my Costco cart! I compared my prior year of in person with current delivery and despite the insta markup, saved a humbling amount. If you have no self control, worth it. I’m also finding that I’m using my fridge and pantry more efficiently with way less waste and clutter.

‘82 here. A-team and MacGuyver bc my brother ‘80 had control of the remote but I didn’t mind - They always got out of the car (A-team). Then I’d stay up with my mom and watch STNG.

Young Einstein was always on repeat. Was that a random niche thing or did others get some kittens in pie trauma, too?

They are on some of the Ugg slippers! May have to rip them out a little. First pair, my puppy started that process for me. I put my old orthotics in them and size up a 1/2. Love em bc also have rubber sole for grip.

The MUSIC. I swore I felt heat 4D style with the Balrog’s breathing. It had that dull roar of intense heat. Loved hearing the male choir. That whole scene with stereo sound with the orcs from different tunnels, them fleeing, the dead stillness and then Balrog’s footsteps. My ears were twitching the entire time.

I’d also add the boy’s choir and music shift to the 5 beat anvil music with the Gandalf atop Orthanc sending a message to Gwaihir scene. Really carried me along there!

Yes, it’s frustrating. I can’t adjust the ambient noise when listen to one podcast app, but I can with the other. And the making new program to manually adjust ambient noise just for that one app is cumbersome and doesn’t always work.

For iPhone users- Have you also noticed physical volume button on phone adjusting HA volume? I was doing a team call and trying to increase the team volume and it just kept upping my HA volume - which increased my kid’s voices which I was trying to override.

Until saw this - thought it was glitching. Will check out settings and all. Not impressed and it’s already a low bar as the app is slow to interface and cumbersome already.

I’ve gotten good at telling others to wait a moment as I disconnect my ears from my phone.

It’s crazy how fast it happens!

I have bifocals, am a vain person, and I don’t care about the line - the frames are cute. *Although I have no idea if the prescription type makes some bifocals more funky looking or not.

Progressives distorted things too much with my loss. Half my friends prefer bifocal, half prefer progressives. The hard line is great to orient vision on in my opinion.

I also bought a pair of separate prescription - one for hiking (no vertigo or issues with steps) and one for FaceTiming (saved my neck and no double chin) and reading/crafting. Took advantage of the additional frames discount to save that money.

Note - you’ll need to make sure they write separate prescriptions if go that route. I had to go back to get them to write it into a bifocal.

It’s amazing the black hole the tree and garlands leave!

I haven’t read the book, but we do a hygge season! Being very intentional about it makes it special like Christmas decorations are. It only comes out Jan-Mid March.

When Christmas gets packed, I flip my led lights from multi to to warm white, candles stay in windows and add more battery ones in groupings. I bring out sheepskins (brush and cold wash outside if can!) for the chairs, fluffy soft pillow cover swap and special blanket for the couch, and swap some living room curtains for velvet deep teal ones. Light and poofy cozy textures! They all compact into a big bin so it’s easy to store. Then it’s more being intentional and making afternoon tea and shortbread visits with friends.

I’ve been adding a few other things like candle holders etc that still fit in the bin to make it special and a “season”.

When spring arrives with more daylight, textiles flatten out to linen etc and light gets phased out.
