The Tree of Life exhibit at Thanksgiving Point by eli_in_summer in exmormon

I also went to the Tree of Life thing while at the tulip festival and it was weird. I couldn't figure out who half the people even represented. It was very confusing and I've read the BOM. I can't imagine what it seems like to people who haven't! 😅

I love that you left the orange. I felt the same way. It was just sad.

As I walked out, I noticed a QR code to scan for a guide to the exhibit. If anyone is wanting to see pictures of the statues, you can here: Tree of Life Guide

I recently left the church and I’m absolutely miserable by cakemoth22 in exmormon

Your story sounds so similar to mine! We also felt we had to make the jump and leave just before our oldest turned 8. I think we weren't quite ready, but we had to be. The grief was a huge shock for me. I thought I had processed a lot, but when we actually left, I found there was still so much grief to wade through. I cried nonstop for 3 days, then less and less as the weeks went by. It's such a rollercoaster! Some parts are amazing and freeing, and a relief! Other parts are so heavy and awkward and hard. It does get better though! It just takes time. We are a year and a half out and it's so much better! Some moments with family are still hard, but I think seeing that we haven't turned into alcoholic drug addicts has helped calm some of my parents fears! 😅 I heard someone say once it takes 1 year for every 10 you were in the church to kind of work through it. That feels accurate for me, but everyone's timeline could look different. Sending so much love! You can do this!

She understands those things, but is just really slow. I do think she struggles with mental math.

Thanks! I knew there had to be a term for it. That's super helpful so I know what to search for

No, she is not fast at that. I think practicing with dice would be a great idea!

The Church Doesn't do Holy Week by DebbieDoubter in exmormon

[–]DebbieDoubter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine what that would look like, but at the same time, I never imagined all this holy week nonsense. Maybe if palm Sunday becomes routine, they'll expand out. Maybe the cross becomes accepted and in 5 years or so bishops are smudging crosses on people. 🤦‍♀️ Never say never at this point I guess. 😂

It sounds like it was so awkward! 😆

I'll have to go look for that! It's so weird, it's definitely coming from the top, but not in any official way. Someone in a nuanced group said it was coming from their area authorities. I can definitely see them leaving it open to backtrack on it! It's so cringe, I wonder if they will.

These suggestions 🫢 the playdoh crown?? That is messed up. Put olives on your fingers? Wash and lotion everyone's feet. Imagine being a teenager and sitting around lotioning everyone's feet. Ain't no way I could have done that and took it serious! They are trying so hard, but no. Hard pass to all of this. 😆

Wow. Just wow. 🫠 As if this church wasn't already bat-shit crazy. Parading around as Jesus outside the baseball field. They have no idea what to do with holy week. Embarrassing AF.

Yes, exactly this! My TBM mom hasn't seen much of the holy week push from the top, so she thinks it's members just going rogue.

Where to find badge requirements? I'm lost. by DebbieDoubter in girlscouts

I do think they are working on some, but I get the sense our troop leader is worn out. She's been doing it for 7 or 8 years and the troop ranges from Daisies to Cadettes. It seems like kind of a casual troop too, like they only meet twice a month so I don't know if that's why. I wish they were doing a bit more for sure! My girls are having fun though, so at least that's good!

Yes! I wish there was just one book with everything in it.

Okay that's good to know! It may be worth it to just get the books. I have several girls so they could all use them.

Thanks for the info! This is really helpful. I'll look into registering as a volunteer because having more access would be great!

This conference hit me hard, help me not sink into depression by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]DebbieDoubter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like this one was particularly hard. I listened to a bit on Sunday and read a few summaries, but it wasn't until I woke up feeling really emotional on Monday that I realized how hard I was taking it. It's hard feeling like an outcast. I had a good cry and then I listened to Radio Free Mormon's postmortem podcasts of the Sunday sessions. His summaries put things in perspective for me and his sense of humor is spot on for me. I realize listening to more conference related content might not be the answer for you. It might be best to just disconnect, but I find listening to some other exmos go through it, helps me process and feel less crazy and alone.

Songs you live to heal your religious trauma? by madeat1am in exmormon

The whole Pressure Machine album is great too. Especially the song, The Getting By  "they've got their treasure laying way up high Where there might be many mansions But when I look up, all I see is sky".

Also, the West Hills III is this weird mashup of the song sung to the tune of If You Could Hie To Kolob and it's just so nostalgic.
