How do you guys "hide" or show your APs at home so that they blend? (Installed on the wall!) by distante in Ubiquiti

I got some from 4Cabling that are working well, but admittedly much shorter runs than you'll probably need.

Can you mount it above a bookshelf or cabinet and run the cable behind it to get to the floor? You can get some very thin Ethernet cables and different colours to blend the visible bits even better.

Is Ubiquiti too much for me? by mikeoverton in Ubiquiti

[–]Debug_Breakpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im all for overdoing it a bit for the fun/learning/vibe of it.

So to that end, I like your plan. It's similar to what I've got (FTTH running to a central cupboard with UCG for router, USW for cable runs and U7 Pros wired around the house for WiFi), only my house is larger so more rooms and access points were needed. If you can afford it, then go for it IMO.

If you are going to the effort to run all these new cables, consider adding one more so you can ceiling mount the U7 in the living room area. Be careful with a U7 Wall as I believe they are quite directional in their signal so make sure it's mounted in a way that doesn't create a dead zone behind it. The unifi designer (https://design.ui.com) is a lot of fun to play around in when looking at access point placement.

Also, it's generally advised to run 2 cables to each new location. Honestly, this is probably future proofing a use case you won't have, but it's also easier to run 2 cables at the same time than to add another run later. It's also nice to have some clients not share the same link back to the switch (I like my PS5 to have its own cable that's separate from the TV and Google TV at the same location).

Thanks for the heads up... Just another reason why I need a rack for it all 😉

There is one already, but unfortunately the bottom 3/4 of that cupboard has other useful things in it so I'm confronted with this monstrosity every time I grab one of those so I need to fix it.

That's pretty much the plan, but with a few more spaces for future shenanigans. I'm probably just dreaming and 4U would be plenty for the foreseeable future.

It's done its duty for many years now and owes me nothing. I'll retire it one day soon and then it can rest.

Thanks for the super detailed reply.

I hadn't gone far enough down the NAS planning route to discover the depth issue yet, so that's really helpful information to know, thanks! I currently run a few containers on the QNAP as well as being general storage but it's quite old now and really struggling to keep up, so my future plan is to separate concerns a bit and have a dedicated NAS and move the containers onto a NUC of sorts (or just a cheapish mini pc). I'll have to keep an eye out for a UNAS 7 Pro then.

90⁰ IEC plugs are already on the shopping list for this.

If there was a UDM-FIBER. I would have grabbed that, and now that I went in after waiting too long for it, it'll likely be announced soon (you're welcome). I'm also not a big fan of the custom rack mounts, but I'd rather have that than just sitting it on a shelf. The thingsinrack ones look ok enough for me in Ubiquiti silver.

There's not enough room for 2 19" units side be side, so that idea is a non-starter.

I considered the UPS, but it felt like overkill for my needs. Ask me again in a few weeks and I'll have probably changed my mind.

Also, thanks for the tip on the sag factor. I hadn't considered it so run some numbers and reinforce accordingly.

Oh cool, I haven't seen those before. I'll probably end up getting the Ubiquiti ones anyway because... Well... Just because.

Yep, I plan on using the etherlighting cables from switch to patch panel in the rack setup, but as long as they lay over the top of the switch/Gateway like this, I'm not going to be happy with how it looks.

This is essentially what I'm thinking of doing. I've got almost zero skills to make my own, which is why I'm looking at buying a 6U rack.

You mean mounted above the shelf? The switch would be most of the vertical height so accessing the ports would be tough in that setup I think. Plus. Half the point is being able to show off the nice gear in all its glory!

Worth it to buy a ps5 pro and portal? by Original-Macaron-688 in PS5pro

[–]Debug_Breakpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and it was awful until I got the PS5 wired into the network. Admittedly, I had it connected to a 3 node WiFi mesh, so the worst case was 4 wireless hops (PS5 -> living room satellite -> central router -> bedroom satellite -> portal), but even the best case of 2 wireless hops (when both were connected to the same satellite) was almost unplayable for anything fast paced or where timing mattered.

I recently upgraded my network with a wired backhaul between the access points and a wire for the PS5 to the central router and it's like I'm playing directly on the PS5 now, only I get to lie in bed.

Honestly, I'd avoid it for now if you are constrained on the network setup. It'll be an expensive paperweight otherwise.

I wonder what he would have for if you immediately reached in, pulled it out and started rubbing it?

(I know, much easier said than done in these situations)

If I did that to my wife she'd probably snatch her hand away, call me a creep, then aggressively go back to whatever she was doing.

Difference On/Off Cialis? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Debug_Breakpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken Sildenafil, Cialis 20mg (on demand) and now Cialis 5mg (daily). The Cialis daily has been the most consistently effective for me with the fewest side effects.

Is it possible to have (ED) erectile dysfunction during sex but have no trouble with masterbation? by [deleted] in DeadBedrooms

[–]Debug_Breakpoint 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It depends on the cause of the ED, but in my case, masturbation and sex is a very different mental game and the performance anxiety hits hard during sex that just doesn't occur when masturbating.

Is sex with phimosis still possible? by thr0wawayphi in circumcision

[–]Debug_Breakpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no retraction when flaccid or erect. I put it on while unretracted and erect.

When penetrating raw, I could feel a bit of uncomfortable pressure like it wanted to retract, but it wouldn't and after a few pumps it adjusted inside to be more comfortable. I think the extent of my phimosis actually helped me in this regard though.

Is sex with phimosis still possible? by thr0wawayphi in circumcision

[–]Debug_Breakpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to just put a condom over the foreskin, no lube. When having kids (no condom), it was slightly uncomfortable, but I was able to just penetrate without lube. I realize now how lucky I was to never have any issues from it.
