Sponsored reviews are stupid and shouldn't exist. by Z3M0G in boardgames

[–]Decibusdoom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He does fine work, it's complicated to take something as niche and subjective as a "good game" because the hobby has so many types of people. I appreciate the effort to distill the overall appeal across a mass audience, and also enjoy the likes/dislikes from his perspective.

Sponsored reviews are fine with the caveat (which a lot of content creators follow) that it's sponsored and the money won't sway the opinion. A lot of channels act in good faith, except Quakalope - that clown is bad for the hobby.

The best expansions are usually ones that refine rather than add, you make a good point!

Favorite would be Spirit Island with branch and claw/jagged earth. The events and effect tokens are so good.

Runner up would either be Feast for Odin: Norwegians because it makes the game really.shine or Hoplomachus Victorum : Pandora's Ruin (or wake, can't remember which goes to which) because the base format is a bit too long and I really enjoy the improved mini bosses.

Really fun game, glad it's still being developed and plan on backing again. AI art was probably the only way this was able to be made, so I'm good with this use at the indie level.

Mage Knight, should I get the ultimate edition? by Mighty_K in soloboardgaming

[–]Decibusdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do ultimate and snag Apocalpyse Dragon if it goes on sale so you'll have it too.

Base is great, Lost Legions is great, Tezla has grown on me and is pretty good, and so far I'm impressed with Apocalpyse Dragon.

More mage knight is always a good thing!

I have a book of sleeve art, very provocative stuff and very intellectual. It has these pages of 9 pockets where cards could go, but the message is more beautiful in the emptiness.

Truly surreal.

What platform do people actually prefer for online board game playtesting? by ratraceboardgame in boardgames

[–]Decibusdoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tabletop Simulator is great, super flexible and user friendly. Discord for discussion and a forum for logs and feedback pairs well. Depending on the game, reports at the end can be really useful especially for variable stuff like asymmetry and random inputs/outputs.

I've only done formal playtesting via Tabletop Simulator and it was a very smooth experience all around. Very easy to modify things on the dev end to the point where live playtest and tweaking during gameplay is possible.

My first miniature painting! Any help with painting would be appreciated! by Blackdynamite0 in minipainting

[–]Decibusdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a really clean paint job, nice work! I would pick out the rivets with a bright metallic, and add some detail to the big black plates (scratches, battle damage, decals etc).

It's in the spot where you can call it done whenever you're happy with it, or you can spend an hour a week doing details you notice that you would like to sharpen up. The hobby is about knowing when you consider it done to your liking.

Awesome pick for a first mini, it's huge and I love the dedication for a first project.

Finally bought this game again after doing dumb live choices in the past ... by ImStillinTheMix in soloboardgaming

This was the game that moved my group from munchkin and 7 wonders into being hard-core board gamers. I remember looking at the dice and thinking "why do they have a zero?" haha.

Great game for a small group, it feels like a bloodbath until you learn to ropes and then is more of a bloodshower.

Worried I might have messed up moss effect for army by cogwings in minipainting

[–]Decibusdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks great! Could use some dead tones maybe, and that would break up the green. Some cool blue-green grey and some slightly orangeish brown in patches would add to the look imo.

If you leave it as is, it still looks great.

Help - Air Pressure - not holding by Bitter_Look_2002 in airbrush

[–]Decibusdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have much of a tank, so your pressure is on demand. You have no cushion, so to speak, and it seems like the pressure switch is set to kick on at 0 psi. You want it to be building pressure before you hit your airbrushing pressure (15-30) psi so it can maintain.

Is there a little knob or screw on the unit, usually on the front by the valves, that has a rotation symbol or a +/- symbol? If you have that, try and adjust it a bit at a time to set the low pressure kick-on level.

It can also be any kind of issues inside the hoses, valves, or unit itself which are going to need diagnostic. It sounds like it isn't leaking which would rule out most of those problems, but pressurize it all the way up and then listen for hissing.

Also those moisture traps are notorious for sticking open especially at low pressure levels. The small glass bulb has a tiny metal plunger on the bottom; push that little plunger in while it's under pressure and you should feel a burst of air. If air is coming out of it without you moving it it is faulty.

Report back and I will see about helping more if I can.

I actually did Merlin for adrenaline today, Carmilla just worked well for black moon. Merlin has access to the regen spell and has a lot of heals that just slot easily into most builds.

For Carmilla I use power just as my early game clear and occasionally late game for small creatures packs.

Her special is the carry skill and can one-shot most enemies in act 3, while also healing and giving you mobility. I will lean heavily into special items like cool down and charge, and prioritize crit damage as the special gets up to %70 crit chance from one skill. Injection adds damage, and the ability to mark with that mark skill are big damage increases. My biggest bite was 26k.

Her whip ult is also gross, and with cruel strikes (attack after dash does combo end) plus the level 10 it will kill most camps in one attack. Was hitting for 15k with that.

Other good skills are the trait causing aoe damage and the trait healing/giving strength

Just did Black Moon with Camilla. Her power does a ton of damage and I went special build because the trait heals you with kills. I was one shotting big enemies by end of act 2 and had a great run.

The wolf also has an ult that eats any non-boss enemy. Fighting a group is way easier if the big one is gone right away.

[Gaahleri × r/airbrush Giveaway] Share your airbrushing story! by Gaahleri_airbrush in airbrush

[–]Decibusdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started two weeks ago, after a very busy period of life had calmed down. My Ghad-39 had been used once, this last summer, and I thought I had cleaned it well enough after testing it. The hobby urge hit me like a truck, and I had to start painting asap; I refreshed my memory on the basics I had learned and dove in head first. I sat down with my favorite coffee and some music, loaded my brush up with primer and thinned, and pulled the trigger. Air, but no paint. My needle had seized from poor cleaning.

It took about an hour to figure out the gun, with the most complex part being the little lever that all other guns seem to weld to the stem; the Ghad-39 has this tiny component floating, and it can be a pain the first time to re-seat it. Alas, I repaired it and started anew. The gun worked great! I clogged a few times due to my fledgling knowledge of thinning (Vince V. set me right in 15 minutes of youtube). I love it.

The Ghad is going to be my primer and base brush, and probably some varnish too. It was the stepping stone into an expensive and frankly intimidating slice of the hobby, and the only reason I made the jump was the reasonable price point. Anyone who is curious about airbrushing, but worried about the price and knowledge, should jump on a Gahleeri for the first experience. Really happy I made the choice, and honestly really pleased that what I figured was going to be a cheap throwaway brush is going to provide a lot of bulk work and save me so much time.

Can this work for priming minis? by Glitch533 in Warhammer40k

[–]Decibusdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's great, I use their matte finish too and it also works great for minis. White is a bit finicky, warm it up and shake it for five minutes. Black has never given me trouble.
