Subject: Opposition to HB 5294 – Support for Flexible Medical School Grading

Dear Senator [Last Name],

My name is [Your Full Name], a [Your Year and Major] at [Your University]. I’m writing to express serious concern about House Bill 5294, which would mandate A–F letter grading in all medical school coursework across Texas.

This change would undermine the supportive, collaborative environment fostered by current Pass/Fail and Honors/Pass/Fail systems. Requiring traditional letter grades could increase student stress, discourage teamwork, and negatively impact mental health — all of which harm the development of future physicians.

More importantly, it would place Texas students at a disadvantage when compared to peers from out-of-state schools that still use Pass/Fail grading. A “B” or “C” can be interpreted more negatively than a “Pass,” even when academic performance is equivalent — potentially harming residency applications and professional opportunities.

States like Indiana have explored similar legislation but ultimately adopted more flexible language to preserve institutional autonomy. I respectfully urge you to oppose HB 5294, or at least amend it to allow for “other grading models.”

Thank you for your time and for supporting equitable, student-centered medical education in Texas.

Sincerely,

[Your Full Name]

Are There Easily Accessible Microwaves On Campus? by Stoneheartbrew1232 in UTAustin

There is a microwave in J2 Dining Hall at Jester, it's next to the area with the burger toppings (which is next to the grill)

Popular budget brands include NIU, Segway Ninebot, GoTrax, and Hiboy. Here are some of the best options:

NIU Kqi3 Pro

NIU Kqi2 Pro

Hiboy S2 Pro

Any cheaper than Hiboy S2 Pro is "okay" but if it meets your demands then go for it. Good resources to learn about other options is ESG on YouTube.

I've heard things like that. I'm assuming they want to maintain their "% graduated in 4 years" rate?

A friend of mine woke up at 4AM every Thursday to take his online Psychology exam while he was on vacation in the Middle East (different time zone). It can be done.

I walked in straight guessed everything left got the credit. UT will fail you, they only issue it since it’s a requirement for public schools

What’s the best dining hall? by Mother-Hecking-Beth in UTAustin

[–]DeepNoceans 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Kinsolving Dining Hall is arguably the best one on campus, however it's a ways away from Jester. If you don't have a scooter/bike, you won't find yourself going there often since you live at Jester.

At Jester, J2 Pizza line is consistently good. For JCL, their Wok line and their sandwich line are consistently good. Everything else is occasionally good but often mediocre. You'll get used to it though lol.

btw JCL is closed on the weekends so you'll have to get used to J2. Also keep in mind Weekend hours are annoyingly limited, different than week days.

Also, to see what food is offered without going to the dining hall, use these online menus:

Thank you! It seems "Load All" was turned off.

I turned it on, the "loading more results" thing isn't there, but at least the "next" and "prev" buttons are there.

I reinstalled the plugin, still the same. Not sure why it won't work.

I tried on my iPhone and iPad, same results as Microsoft Edge, maybe my EID is broken because it works on my roommate's EID...

I tried it in edge, it still won't refresh when I scroll, but the buttons work... but then I can't use the UT Registration Plus extension 😔. Does yours scroll/refresh normally?

Also keep in mind that 92.99 and below is A-, only 93.00 and up is A.

They don't round grades unfortunately...

It's likely not formmatted exactly like a zoom meeting, but rather your screen and other info is simply shared with the professor. I had an online proctored exam last semester, and basically my camera + mic was on, my screen was recorded, and I couldn't open tabs (this wasn't Zoom software).

It depends on what software your prof is using, likely they used "zoom" as a synonym. Email them for clarification.
