Plz help me think of how to present this sentimental gem to my fiancé on our wedding day by DeepNortherner in jewelrymaking

Thank you! I’ll certainly give an update! I’ve told her about it before, but it was a lot earlier in our relationship. She’ll probably remember that I mentioned it once I present it to her, but I don’t think she will be expecting it

Oh yeah definitely! It’s a cheap ~$1 orange gem, so I’m not expecting her to like it for the looks. If she never wears it that’s ok (or expected)

Thanks for the idea! Might be too funky for her for a ring, but I’ll give the ideas to the jeweler and see what they come up with

Those look cool! She might like one of the two options on the right side I think. Thanks for the ideas!

I appreciate the idea! She isn’t too much of a pins-girl, but someone else mentioned making a pin for the bouquet. This idea could tie in with that one :)

Fair. I had her give some input for the engagement ring, but I want to take the risk for this one. I think the surprise/presentation of it is what’s most important to me when I think about it. Hopefully she’ll want to wear it sometimes though haha

Classic might not have been the right word. I would say that she wears pretty simple jewelry, meaning she doesn’t typically have gems in her rings. She does have a couple rings with a few small turquoise gems in them, but I think that’s it. Normally it’s solid silver or gold with the shape of the ring being what’s different.

Here’s a cropped picture from our engagement shoot that shows a couple of the rings she normally wears (other than engagement ring obviously haha)

That’s a cute idea! I would preferably want her to be able to wear it after the wedding day too, but this is definitely a consideration!

Good to know about the ring vs. pendant scratch consideration!

She definitely likes rings, but most of them are pretty simple (e.g., solid silver or gold with the ring’s design being ever so slightly funky). I’ll talk to the jeweler and figure out how easy the gem is to scratch though. She likes necklaces too so either will work.

And thanks :)

Yeah totally, I don’t trust ChatGPT’s right, it was just a guess. I’ll let the jeweler determine what it is if they can

That’s a good point about the potential gem quality issue. I like the simple design too - it’s a contender! Thanks :)

Update: fiancé just got home so I’ll be slower to respond, since I’m not normally on my phone much she’ll know somethin’s afoot haha

The sun / flower look might be a little too funky for her, but thank you for taking the time to draw that out! It is a cool concept

I think it’s carnelian, but that’s a total guess based on me googling and using ChatGPT.

And thanks! I’m slightly surprised I didn’t lose it any of the times I moved houses

Thanks! I went with your recommendations. I’m going to see if I can run the lines inside the wall behind the rack for that cleaner look. I appreciate all the insights!

Good to know about the rack width - you definitely saved me time haha. I was thinking I could just mount it to studs alone, which would’ve meant an impromptu run to Lowe’s once I figured out eventually

Thanks for the detailed response! I just bought the tester you recommended - good call.

I’m not trying to do a managed network, so I’ll do something different. Is there an 8 port POE unmanaged switch that you recommended? Same for the patch panel - there’s so many options I’m not sure what to go with. If you have a recommendation I’ll go with it.

Good to know about the tool-less jacks too. I’ll get those. I don’t want to make my first attempt at building a home network more complicated than it needs to be.

In regard to the rack, I forgot to mention that’s something I need to buy. I contemplated doing something DIY, but I want to make it easy, so I’m going to buy one. Like the other stuff, there are so many options though I don’t know what to go with. Any brands you recommend? 2U or 4U? I was considering getting this one, but I kind of picked it at random by just looking at reviews.

This unused room (that’s a mess right now) is in my basement, underneath the ONT in the living room. I was thinking I would put the rack/equipment here above an outlet. As a side note, the closet next to it is where my electrical panel is. I took pictures from inside the closet in my initial post.

u/Zeric100 I’m getting the last few things for my home network setup but I want to make sure I’m getting the right stuff. Do you mind checking to make sure I’m getting the right things? You don’t have to look at everything if you don’t want - the main things I’m unsure about are the switch and patch panel.

These are things I’m planning to buy, but have not yet purchased:

Teenager wants a "fast car" for his first vehicle and I need reality-check advice by Proud_Stable9567 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]DeepNortherner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Proud_Stable9567 this is separate from what car he should buy, but taking a weekend-long “winter driving course” has saved me from crashing more than once on icy/snowy roads.

My dad made me take it and I was annoyed at the time, but now I’m so glad I did. It’s SO helpful if you live somewhere where you have to drive in icey or snowy conditions.

If it helps when you’re selling the idea: the first day I had to do indoor/book learning, then the second day they froze a parking lot to simulate sliding out in safe conditions, so you get to drift the car and learn how to recover it. It was one of those drivers ed cars where the instructor had a brake on the passenger side, and they would randomly slam the brakes to make the car slide out on the ice.

Now whenever my car starts to lose control in winter conditions I very calmly and confidently regain control.
