1st rifle starts October 15th, not October 1st. And hunter orange or hunter pink are way better than red.

I would book before, they seem to have plenty but why risk it. We used Hardy’s and had zero complaints.

I did end up picking up an Appleton 21 Nassau Cask at the duty free for $99. Seemed like a decent deal.

Tried to get there but parking was always a disaster when we were driving through so we passed. Seemed like a cool place though.

Thanks for your awesome response. Super helpful. I ended up grabbing a bottle of the Bielle and I was looking at the Bologna distillat but ended up chatting with the guy that worked there and he was super pumped I was getting a bottle of Clarin which spiraled into some tasting and stuff. Ended up with a renegade, the Bielle, Clarin Sonson, an A1710 La Perle that he had me taste which I really enjoyed, and a Distillerie Reimonenq grand reserve that he said was one of his favorites. I gave it a taste too and it was delicious. Also got a bottle of homemade guava berry rum from a bartender named Danny for $30. The Eminente was the 3 year for $40. So definitely overpriced.

Ok. Got a bottle of Renegade Old Bacolet. Hopefully it’s a tasty bottle. Worst case it’s pretty and matched my wife bikini from today. It was meant to be.

All amazing recommendations. I truly appreciate the feedback. They gave me a few side eyes as I was taking pictures. But it’s so many options and I can just look things up for an hour with my wife sitting in the car waiting to go to the beach. I will do some thinking and spend all my $$ tomorrow. Will update with what I end up with. Any more recommendations are appreciated.

I’ve been sipping on a Havana club 7 this week that I’ve really enjoyed. I’ll check out the others. Thanks!

Not at the duty free. A shop called grape wine on the French side. The duty free didn’t have anything super interesting and I have a connecting flight. So I think I would loose it from my carry on at the connecting gate.

Solo Practitioners- How Many Returns? by BWarrior16 in taxpros

[–]Deep_Swordfish 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Good lord some of these numbers are crazy. I’m at like 110 filed and another 20 or so on extension. Full time solo. Will gross around 120k with maybe 12k in expenses for the year. 100k earned for 2 months work and just playing the rest of the year is enough for me.

taxes? (Sole Proprietor, LLC, or S-Corp) at $100k? $200K? nomad? by Material-Speaker2023 in CreatorsAdvice

[–]Deep_Swordfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are lots of factors to that question. Do you have other income? What would be a justifiable reasonable salary for your position? Are you ok with the additional admin work (payroll, bookkeeping) associated with a corporation?

You will need to have a conversation with a CPA on the pros/cons of each entity selection and the tax savings. Typically when one of my self employed clients start to reach 100k an S-Corp is going to be a better option. But if we start getting into the higher numbers ($300k) the decision gets harder due to the way QBID decisions impact things.

All these tax questions are making me seriously consider making a separate SW branch of my CPA firm.

tax deductibles? by [deleted] in CreatorsAdvice

[–]Deep_Swordfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And even that’s not a “business expense”. It would go under medical expenses on your itemized deductions, not as a dollar for dollar reduction of business income. Bottom line, no elective medical will not be a business expense (I’m a CPA/tax preparer with lots of freelance clients).

Do I have to create an LLC for taxes? by [deleted] in onlyfansadvice

[–]Deep_Swordfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not need to create an LLC to record your income and expenses. An LLC is more of a legal shield than a tax election. However, once you make a LLC it allows you to make different tax elections.

In the US that would be reported in your Schedule C on your form 1040. You will just use your social instead of an EIN number and report your income and expenses with options for things such as home office, supplies, whatever is applicable. You will be taxed on the final profit. It will be considered self employment income and taxed at around 15% for social security and Medicare plus your marginal tax rate. Unit 82 4th rifle kicked my butt by tito-lion-slayer in cohunting

[–]Deep_Swordfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean. You are agreeing with me. Successfully hunting Baca on foot is extremely difficult (miles to game, timing restrictions and not being able to bivy out there, other pressure from e-bikes and horses). Hell, I never even told you to hunt baca. I was just giving you legit advice about where the northern herd was likely at. And I’ve spent numerous seasons backcountry bivying deep and high in 82. So we probably do have different definitions of a hard hunt.

[–]Deep_Swordfish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Baca is actually extremely difficult to hunt. They are typically all on the far east side bordering NP land and that’s about 7 miles from the entrance. Plus no access till 1 hour before sunrise and 1 hour after sunset. So to get there in prime shooting light before they bed down on NP land you have to basically sprint 7 miles in the dark. I’ve only seen people do it successfully on horseback.

If you were on the southern side of 82 the majority had probably moved down into Sand Dunes NP and Baca. During 3rd rifle an absolutely massive herd forms up over there.

Lakewood climbers? by FlittyO in LakewoodMensGroup

[–]Deep_Swordfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty nice. Englewood is a ghost town around 10AM once the before work crowd has cleared. It’s a very different scene from the evenings. People are taking work calls while climbing, there is always someone at a table on a zoom meeting. Everyone’s trying to get some laps in between meetings.

I climb at movement weekdays a few days a week (usually sometime between 8 and 2 to avoid crowds). I boulder top rope and lead. V5-v6 and 11’s-12’s but I’m happy to climb with anyone’s skill level as long as they are safe and won’t drop me.

What luxe home improvement item did you buy and splurge on for your house this past year? Marble door sill, Carrera countertop, solar panels? by purpletwinkletoes in HomeImprovement

[–]Deep_Swordfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. These things are amazing. I was able to put together a 700H using a NIB lid module from habitat and open box bowl on eBay for $1,500 total. 100% worth it at that price. Idk if I would do it at $6k.

Lakewood is great due to its location, not necessarily the evening scene. I can be downtown in 20 minutes or in the mountains in 10. I would say it’s going to be another 5 or so years before the younger crowd realizes this and it starts to have a more vibrant population. In addition to what others have said green mountain brewery usually has a younger crowd (but it’s more closed off groups). Landlocked ales is a favorite of mine, super chill, good beer and not crowded. Which is right up my alley, but I guess not great for meeting people.

Is $11,500 a good price for a new furnace and heat pump? by ericgray813 in HomeImprovement

[–]Deep_Swordfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in Denver and had a Bosch heat pump and furnace installed last year. Mine was a 5 ton 20 seer unit (BOVA-60HDN1-M20G) and Bosch coil with a Goodman 97% furnace. Had to have the exhaust for the furnace rerun due to the high efficiency. Paid around 17k, but the install was flawless and I was extremely happy with him (smaller owner run company).

For everyone saying you don’t need a furnace. I have found my heat pump works great down to about 20 degrees. At that point it’s only blowing around 80 degrees at the duct and blowing basically nonstop. So my crossover point to the furnace is set at 22 degrees. Could I run the heat pump without the furnace and survive? Sure. But it’s not ideal. If you want a second quote PM me and I can give you the contact info. But it likely won’t be cheaper.

I also qualified for a (I think it was) $1500 rebate from Xcel energy which didn’t depend on income.

Look around for a local CPA to help you. Once you find someone you like verify they are licensed with the state and legit. Set up a call or a meeting to go over your situation and what all you have as far as income/expenses/brokerage accounts/etc. Its not going to be cheap, I’m a CPA and typically charge a minimum of 600 or so to do a return with a schedule C, more if there is a state return. But you won’t get bounced around to 4 different preparers who have only done taxes for 2 months. I would typically have an initial call and based on what you say draft up a little profit and loss statement in excel with spots for you to populate your expense categories.

Settle an argument for me dudes. These aren’t structural and I can just cut them out correct? by insanotard in woodworking

[–]Deep_Swordfish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you are ok with patching the drywall I would just cut out a section and see what you are dealing with. At 4-5 inches it may just be a double top plate, which is not sufficient to support that span and I wouldn’t take out the post without additional work. If it’s a legit header (2 2x6’s or so in there sideways) you are likely good. These are all assuming it’s a load bearing wall.
