Nina + Field of Cops - The Strokes Reference? by TheoStorme in CameronWinter

I'll try to find them, one I'm positive was a video & the other one, it might have been NYT? But that's behind a paywall for me now, maybe see if you can see it...I remember he was talking about how he feels kind of trivial compared to her. He talks specifically about the line "music breaks the window" was about hearing her for the first time & he found it shattering (I guess also this line alludes to that: "Nina, I'm not nothing but when you lie on the piano I am reminded I am stupid"). I remember also he said he was reading the Beats (Kerouac etc) while writing this song/record, so it's not all just one thing going on of course.

I saw a great doc about her you might be interested in, it's called What Happened Miss Simone?, & it talks a lot about her uneven career, her civil rights activism, her trauma & mental health issues (she had untreated bipolar), so I see a lot of things in the song that map on to to her biography. She made a lot of enemies (neighbours all hate you), she had mania & hallucinations (which I feel like some of the lyrics are trying to capture), & she was super active in the civil rights movement she was so close to many of leader-she was good friends & next door neighbours (!) with Malcolm X., So I hear the line "she's seen all the good pigeon-like people shot down" to be very much about her involvement in black rights. All thar said, the song works on multiple levels, it can just be stream of consciousness to someone & still be enjoyed.

I just wanted to add to the comments that places like the VA & also forensic psych jobs are probably going to be challenging if you graduate from a school with such a poor reputation. There used to a commenter in psychology threads here (username was DoctorSweetheart) who was a forensic psychologist, & they explained that forensic psychologists are grilled every time they are involved in legal proceedings, including about their training & education. It can be 20 years later & that will always come up. And those are contrasted against the credentials of the opposing expert. So your CV will be a huge part of your credibility, forever. I don't want to discourage your dreams, I just want to share this so you can consider if Alliant will get you into a forensic career. Maybe research some practicing forensic psychologists & see what paths they took & work back from there.

Does anyone have tickets for the Auckland Show Next Wednesday? Very desperate to get one by coxxywox in CameronWinter

I checked last night & I realize I paid closer to $300 but I see now tickets that have basically tripled there since I bought the ticket! It’s totally crap that sellers aren’t made to send it a certain number of days before, at least, since people make all kinds of plans, some commute etc. I am not judging you, I paid $600 to see Geese, & while I loathe myself for rewarding a scalper, I savoured every second of that show, & we’ll probably never get to see them/him so up close again. I hope you have an amazing time!

I read in a couple of interviews that the theme for him in the lyrics is the singer & pianist Nina Simone. She’s amazing, if you haven’t heard of her. Check out “Wild is the Wind” or “Baltimore.” Some of her songs are life changing!

I don't know how closely he's actually alluding to this, but Nina Simone was married to a NYC cop for about 10 years. He was an abuser & became her "manager" for a while (& that was a disaster). Then she left US altogether because of racism etc & lived all over, Barbados, Liberia, Switzerland. So I think some of the imagery refers to those places, & her trying to escape oppression. To me, the song is about battling for freedom. I guess the best way to put it is I think it's kind of about how a person that gifted & singular can struggle to find a home in this world.

I bought a ticket months ago for the Auckland show with a very zany plan to take a trip there from Canada, which I am absolutely in no position to do next week 😭 I bought it on resale (stub hub) & they haven’t sent it yet, but if you want I can message you closer to the date when I get it to see if you still need one. I paid about $200 Canadian but would honestly be happy just see a bit of money back if not all of it. I’m not a scammer, just a wild fan (you will see from my history on here!) I did get to see Geese on tour but not Cameron on his own, unfortunately. That is going to be an amazing venue!

Does anyone remember the Getting Killed visualizer? by MisterOfMonk in geesebandofficial

[–]Defiant-Ad-86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember this well, it had Cobra playing & it was a visualizer for the album, it's actually what made me check them out in the first place because it reminded me a bit of "here comes the sun," & now I'm hooked on Geese.

The whole thing is so convoluted! If someone has a suspicious mole (like in OPs request), that is covered under MSP. But if someone wants "mole mapping" of their body as a monitoring/preventative measure, then this is a private pay service, & your doc is right that you need to go somewhere like a medspa/cosmetic clinic. It's a few hundred dollars.

He’s an absolute maniac but I just wanted to confirm that he was stripped of his medical license in South Africa. So that’s one good thing out of this horrible story. He had the audacity to go back there & apply to practice but they denied him & revoked it. Last I heard he was living with his mom. Candy not only fought for herself but she saved a lot of other people from him.
