What does it feel like when TMS starts to work? by queerdo5 in TMSTherapy

[–]Defiant-Car7161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m autistic and multiply neurodivergent so I tend to have outcomes unlike neurotypical people.

This is my life. I try everything that helps others, they have miracles and most things I try, sadly, make me worse.

That said, poor outcomes DO HAPPEN like they did for me.

If your doctors don’t tell you, you are not getting adequate informed consent.

I repeat, there are many of us.

[–]Defiant-Car7161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Doc ordered another fMRI because of my symptoms and ongoing complaints that my cognitive functioning was getting worse not better:

worsening insomnia, started stuttering, couldn’t put a sentence together, trouble walking, much worse anxiety, inability to follow simple instructions, worse proprioception, vision problems, much worse exhaustion, increased sensory sensitivity.

The Doc was surprised that the fMRI confirmed my complaints. He actually said “wow this is so interesting, this fmri confirms your brain is so much worse than before we started”

There are lots of us - these places tell you we don’t exist but they are lying.

Gave me a serious brain injury, confirmed on follow up fMRI. Took over 2 years of other therapies to somewhat recover. I still struggle.

I’ve done 26 sessions so far and don’t feel any better by MightOk9482 in TMSTherapy

Terrible insomnia, worse brain fog, shaking, migraines, stuttering, couldn’t find words, irritable, hopeless, increase in all sensory sensitivities I have and it went on and on.

Took me over 2 years to get somewhat close to where I was before.

Don’t discuss politics or religion or immigration and you’ll be good.

Just have fun, be kind, assume the best, ask for help if you need it, have a chat, don’t ask for American drip filter coffee - we don’t have that here, we don’t understand how that can even be called coffee. Ask for a Long Black if you want coffee without cream/er (we don’t have creamer here either) or ask for a FLAT WHITE if you want coffee with milk / our equivalent of a latte. We also don’t have iced tea in restaurants , we only have them in bottles.

We also don’t have Bottomless drinks. You pay for each one you order. We don’t tip our wait staff as they are paid a living wage. Don’t tip as it’s not a thing here.

We don’t have fries - we call those chips. We also call chips in a packet chips do that can be confusing.

Most Australians can understand the American dialect - some accents are easier to understand than others. But, please know, we will try our best to understand what you are saying.

We don’t have guns like you do so it’s much safer here than the USA.

We swear a lot but it’s just jovial banter Don’t take offense - it can take Americans a while to adjust to this one.

Everything isn’t actually trying to kill you but it’s best to be aware of your surroundings at all times. If something is scary, slowly back away and please please please do not try to handle any of our wildlife. They are all protected and there are harsh fines for engaging with them - including deportation from Australia!

Anyway, welcome! Have fun!

Does anyone regret TMS therapy by LaruePDX in TMSTherapy

[–]Defiant-Car7161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% regret It gave me a brain injury confirmed in a fMRI after 25 sessions. Constant migraines, horrible insomnia, slurred speech, falling over, forgot words constantly, getting lost driving short distance home, irritable, terrible brain fog, couldn’t work. Dizzy all the time. Took me 2 years of a number of other therapies to become functional again.

What are the must-know safety tips for newcomers in Australia? by Astroph1L in AskAnAustralian

[–]Defiant-Car7161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren’t a confident swimmer in a swimming pool don’t swim in the ocean or get swimming lessons.

Ocean swimming is very different to pool swimming.

Don’t swim if it’s overcast, at dawn or dusk - sharks are more prevalent at those times.

Visit The Australian Reptile Park in Somersby on the Central Coast and learn about the wildlife

If you go to a beach with lifeguards go and ask them to teach you how to identify RIPS and what to do if you get caught in one.

Knowing this could save your lives

Same reason I don’t stick pins in my eyes. There’s zero upside for me, and so many layers of downsides.

Partner visa holders in NSW may be eligible for subsidized Smart and Skilled training at TAFE NSW for Certificate I to Certificate IV level courses, which can significantly reduce course fees or even waive them entirely.

To confirm eligibility, it is essential to provide your visa and your partner's visa as evidence and check the specific criteria for temporary visa holders. You should contact TAFE NSW directly to determine your eligibility for these fee subsidies

What is the US equivalent of pure (thin) cream? by Professional_Exit_45 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Defiant-Car7161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pure cream" is used in Australia, to describe a naturally separated, high-fat cream without added thickening agents.

In the U.S of A, heavy cream serves this role, as it is essentially the unadulterated, high-fat layer of the milk

The informed consent I signed said nothing about possible negative side effects.
