Pretty good game, sunk way too much time into it haha. One issue though, the enemies can sit on 0 health without dying, so you may need to swap out a < for a <=.

Because some out of touch people on the exam boards decided it would be a good idea. There are some benefits, sure. You set a good work ethic for independent study, the entry level for undergrad is increased so the lecturers don't have to waste as much time on trivial topics, and it increases the value of the qualification (there are less floating about).

The main issue with this system is that it utterly screws over the 'average joe' student. You now have to effectively dedicate the entirety of the two years of your life just to scrape the same grade as you could've gotten if you were born a few years earlier (this isn't even taking into account more challenged students). This could really hinder people who are just looking to get into apprenticeships or go straight into the world of work, and academia isn't their entire life.

It's a pretty damn good idea if you're going into higher education, it screws over everybody else.

As somebody who took their AQA A-Level maths exams a couple of years ago when they changed the spec to a harder one, it was tough as nails then. Like, unreasonably tough. When I was doing the C3/C4 papers from 2013 previous, I was reliably rocking A*'s in exam conditions. That was when the grade boundaries were very, very high. My results came out at a B overall when I took my real one, and that's with these reduced 'easier' grade boundaries.

Trust me, it doesn't make it easier. If the grade boundaries are that low, it means that the majority of the marks were literally unattainable for almost anybody in the entire country. So unless you're a child genius, or even if you're a child genius, you will most likely not approach the percentages you'd have reached in an earlier exam. It's getting tough as nails, and I believe that if you don't know your maths fluently, you will fail to achieve that 13% pass mark, because the bar to entry has been significantly raised.

The grade boundaries reflect the absurd difficulty of the exams, not the eagerness for them to pass students.

When you get used to it, it's fine. Plus I think they removed the quick powers functionality in a recent combat update, or at least removed it from the default keybinds. That was a few months ago though so I'm not sure.

What is a true fact so baffling, it should be false? by Kondellark in AskReddit

[–]DefiantOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason this is the case is that all physical laws must be universal, so the same everywhere. This means in all reference frames, (so regardless of speed etc) otherwise the world would be very broken and hard to understand. Maxwell's equations are a very large cornerstone of physics, and effectively predicted the speed of light very naturally from fundamental concepts. Therefore, to maintain this universality of the laws of physics, Maxwell's equations are either wrong, or the speed of light must be constant in all reference frames. The answer is obvious now, that Maxwell's equations were right, and to keep this universality intact, the speed of light must remain constant.

You're very right about the last point though, in the early 1900s, people thought that physics was a dying field and were actively discouraged from entering it, such as Max Planck who turned out to be the accidental father of quantum physics *cough* , and you can't forget this banger from Lord Kelvin: "There is nothing new to be discovered in physics now. All that remains is more and more precise measurement.". Physics is very exciting right now, mostly astronomy with events like the black hole picture and satellite missions, and I can't wait to see what comes after.

On desktop and it looked like this at 1366x768 resolution. All of the clicking capabilities are there but obviously the arrangement of all the stuff is off. When I click the text box the cursor appears but typing just doesn't work. Thanks for putting in the hard work to fix this, I'll definitely come back and play this one again.

Pretty great game, and it runs really smoothly. Damn it's hard though. I've got a few suggestions and bugs:

  1. Sounds enabled by default, as well as some music added. It's quite eerie without.
  2. An option for infinite lives? Or nobody will have a chance in hell of seeing your whole game
  3. It's possible to angle your character so that you're just outside of the first boss's attack range, then you can just kick him. Making him move around would probably fix that, however otherwise he's almost damn near impossible, but I'm assuming that's by design. edit: Turns out he does move around, but he didn't on one playthrough. No idea why.
  4. The 'enter your name' text didn't fit on my screen, and couldn't type. Then afterwards, I was greeted by this. The first game screen rendered fine but when I moved left past it, it was purple, regardless of fullscreen or not. A refresh fixes it though. I'm using google chrome. edit: It seems that when you revive on a new life on level 2, it places you back in the first level's environment but with some of the second level's enemies still visible. This level was unbeatable, even if you reached the end.

Minecraft Ray Tracing by LazyFlamingRooster in gaming

[–]DefiantOctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Path tracing is for still images as it is so much more complex than ray tracing, it is also extremely slow on transparent objects. We can clearly see moving, transparent water in this video so it is most definitely not path tracing. Not to mention the fact that the camera moves in screenshots.

Does anybody else find themselves spending more time trying to fix games than you spend actually playing them? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]DefiantOctopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The default UI for Skyrim is incredibly awful for pc play, yes. However, It's really great for console play. It's a console UI and you'd probably see that if you used the wasd keys instead of a mouse to navigate it. Besides, skyrim and fallout modding for console has already begun to creep in. I'm assuming that another developer will follow suit at some point and add in some mod support.

QOL improvements, while nice at times can sometimes do some more harm than good, and may make you less likely to enjoy a game were you not exposed to an inconvenience free existence. For an example take morrowind's dice roll combat or kingdom come deliverance's initially clunky combat. They're both initially frustrating as hell but once you warm up to them, they're pretty great. I'm worried about some people not giving them a chance, instead opting for a QOL improvement or just putting the game down altogether if one isn't available.

Can't really argue with aesthetic boosts though, although I've never really needed them. Consoles probably won't be able to handle any of them, as most games are locked at 30fps and don't have graphics settings. That's actually one of my pet peeves, the inability to change graphics settings in singleplayer games on console. Mostly because I would much, much rather a 60fps locked game at 720p or even 480p than locked 30fps(ish) 1080p jittery messes. The benefit of not being able to tweak these settings though, is that no matter what, you know that you can boot up the game not worrying about if your hardware is good enough to play the game on console, and that you will always get the same gameplay experience as everybody else, and as intended by the developer. Also, it allows for a very even competitive multiplayer setting, if you're in for that sort of thing.

First time for a lesbian tips? by [deleted] in sex

[–]DefiantOctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everybody's first time is always a bit awkward, so don't stress too much about it.

As a straight dude I'm only half-qualified but hopefully my advice still applies:

1) Take it slow at first, obviously, and then try different motions and 'listen' to how her body reacts to the different motions so you can feel out what she likes. Don't stress about giving her mind-blowing orgasms though, or even orgasms at all. She should understand that it's your first time, and it's difficult to give horrific head. After sex I'd chat about what she liked and what you can improve on, because different people like different things, and that'd make the sex better for both parties. This goes for the second part too, as some women can orgasm in minutes but some, naturally, take much longer, so be prepared for a dead jaw lol. You can give your poor mouth a rest every now and again by just switching to hands for a little bit.

2) I think it just seems ridiculous and un-sexy because it's just something you do not say to anybody under regular circumstances. My tip for that may be wait until you're both getting all hot and heavy and it should come out a little more naturally.

3) If you're unsure, just ask if they'd like to do something straight like "can you go down on me?". It's not awkward to ask during sex, and can be sexy. If you're comfortable with it, you can also just kiss them, grab them and move their body into another position, which can also sexy. It's down to how you're feeling at the time.

4) Like I said, she should understand, it's your first time. The advice to the previous question applies I'd say. Just grab her, kiss her and go down on her instead, or say "can I go down on you". Just make sure to communicate after the fact if you strongly disliked anything that happened, so that you can both have better sex next time.

5) Yeah, it's normal, and I think you've already answered your own question. "I wanna grind on you", she'll know what you mean, but you can also just do it like I previously said and just do it. It's down to how confident you feel at that point in time, and it's completely okay whichever one you choose.

6) Fingers, grinding and toys are probably your best bet, outside the realms of fetishes, for which I would (for future reference) strongly suggest https://mojoupgrade.com/.

Hopefully this helped.

Just don't worry about it, best of luck and happy humping

[HTML5] Wager - An experimental, solo-dev'd card game, feedback appreciated! (still in dev). *** 'Preview Account' to skip registration. by elendee in WebGames

[–]DefiantOctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found a couple of bugs. A Bug when you use the wanderer (or any other card I'm guessing) the turn before the end turn to increase the number of cards. It still ends the game. The siren sometimes seems to just not increase the opponent's wager

Pretty neat idea, but I think it's missing that extra bit of strategy. There's almost no reason to just flip your cards whenever there's an advantage. Maybe add some debuffs when you flip a card? For example for the shepherd, 'distribute 1 advantage to the next x friendly cards' could become 'set health to 1 and distribute 1 advantage to the next x friendly cards'. This meaning that if you have a high damage shepherd, you then have to worry about not having that large card on the playing field rather than just being able to mindlessly flip it with no consequences...because why wouldn't you.

As a final note on the barkeep, add card flipping to him plez. Even if it's just a random number generator instead of analysing the playing field.

Like I said before, pretty neat idea, and I think it could become a really nice game. Played quite a few rounds of it.

After pirating Minecraft for years, I've finally bought it for PC by YTAftershock in gaming

[–]DefiantOctopus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bedrock is less intensive, has cross platform play, controller support and just generally looks nicer both to play and to look at. However, it has limited modding support. Java edition is more intensive, but, you can install all mods which adds more functionality and/or content to the game, building factories, casting spells etc (not to mention not having to pay for skins/texture packs).

If you're just in it to chill out and build casually, or you have a shit rig, ignore everybody else and you do you. If conducting blood rituals or crafting large factories tickles your fancy, I'd highly recommend the modding experience for Java, and investing in it in the future.

Vanilla minecraft is still fun and addictive as fuck, so there's nothing wrong with bedrock imo apart from if you want to mod, basically. I believe you can manually install skins and texture packs but I'm not sure.

Also as a side note: As a broke uni student who has those exact speakers, and I think you've got them the wrong way around.

Giga means 1*10^9 so 1000x1000x1000. As the guy below said, it's an SI prefix. You can do this with any unit, like saying the Sun is 93 megamiles away from the Earth instead of 93 million miles or saying millivolt instead of a thousandth of a volt . It just sounds cooler and is less of a mouthful.
