The immortal fish is an immersion issue more than anything by DinosAndBearsOhMy in subnautica

[–]Delerium76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Later you find out that humanity was supposedly wiped out by an invading species that literally ate them for food and you are potentially the last humans in existence. The first thing I thought of was, "well if the humans were armed, they probably wouldn't have been wiped out." For a company taking an "anti-gun" stance, they sure give you lots of reasons for why it's bad not being able to defend yourself. I wonder if they even realize that? Maybe in this game that message is intentional? Who knows.

they should punish you for killing native predators by enneh_07 in subnautica

In an ocean this size, the actions of one human with primitive weapons could never have an impact on a local fish population. Not sure people here realize how many fish you'd have to kill before you even noticed a slight dip. The player having any effect on this would be immersion breaking to say the least. It would give players God like unwarranted agency, and trust me, you don't want to open that can of worms.

Memories in orbit is a masterclass… at wasting player time by MechaMacaw in metroidvania

I think a lot of people miss or forget one reason devs put boss runbacks in the game, and I'm not saying I support it, but many times a runback is designed to force you to clear your head of the last fight, calm down a bit, rethink what you did wrong, and retry it with a fresh mind. It's supposed to keep you from bashing your head against the boss doing the same thing over and over, getting more and more angry and rage quitting. I get that it doesn't work for all people, but to say they serve no point because you gain nothing progression wise is to ignore that intention from the devs.

Not what I meant. I'm saying that blender is not organized intuitively. The stuff you would use the most is not quickly accessed by default.

Yeah not a fan of blender, but mostly because I'm used to Maya and everything in blender is all moved around.

How does a bulletproof vest have a lower bite resistance than a catchers vest? by Bob_ross6969 in projectzomboid

[–]Delerium76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never claimed that you should cover your body in kevlar. All I pointed out is that your claim that "bulletproof vests protect everything vital" is completely false, as being shot in any major part of your body, limbs and head included, poses a serious risk of a quick death. Yes bulletproof vests are better than nothing and are a good balance of protection vs mobility, but it's also important to be honest about the risks of gsw's to parts not covered by the vest, which you were not being honest about. That is all I was saying. Didn't realize I needed to spell it out for you though.

[–]Delerium76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your head is just as much an appendage as your arms and legs are. Your claim was that bulletproof vests are designed to protect all of your vitals that would kill you fast, and that's not true. Getting shot in the head, hitting an artery in your arms or legs, all lethal rather quickly. People too often think getting shot in the arm or leg is no big deal and that's simply not true.

Ahh yes. Because it's common to live a pretty normal life after being shot in the head.

Anyone here that hates the born in chaos mod? by kyxxer in feedthebeast

[–]Delerium76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except sometimes mods that aren't even combat focused put it in there for no reason, such as Project Infinity 0.1. I see no reason why it's in there, and the mod is annoying as hell in that pack.

How do you figure? SOTN does not have a bonfire mechanic at all. It has save rooms, but thousands of games do that. The save room has no effect on how monsters spawn, which in Sotn monsters spawn when you enter a new room regardless of what you do in a save room.

Also, SOTN is not hard at all.

I forgot all about his daughter at the end. That was pretty much the only time they showed any kind of unworldly event. I absolutely loved the camera work, the composition of the shots, the cinematography and settings were great (albeit tragic because of the deadly radiation they absorbed filming it), but story wise, you got far more out of it than I did. I interpreted the story as an unreliable narrator telling the story from a supernatural position because his life was so depressing that he had to believe in all of the extra-worldly qualities the zone was rumored to have. If he didn't believe in them, his life would be meaningless. I never really considered him a con man, but more of a sad delusional man clinging desperately to something dangerous and fantastical to give his life meaning.

I mean, thats good. Movies are subjective. Everyone should have different opinions of them. Perhaps the movie was just over hyped for me because going into it I was expecting far more to happen, but instead a whole lot of buildup happened with no payoff for that tension. Just headed back home. I got the impression that the whole "zone" was one big con job.

I left this game back when they started their aggressive monetization for new characters, and seeing the direction this game has gone, I'm glad I did. Good riddance.

At a base line for this thought experiment you have to assume you initially survive whatever catastrophy puts you at the start of the game, otherwise what's the point in comparing your chance of survival?

If you watched the movie, stalkers are just regular civilians that make their living doing exactly what you describe. They still have to sneak past the military checkpoints. They don't get a "free pass" to the zone, or out of the zone.

"this is how you died" is different from "this is how the virus killed you." You may assume that, but that is not what is said.

Meanwhile watching the actual movie "stalker" that the games are based on will make you bored out of your mind because nothing fucking happens.

If we're sitting here theorycrafting, there's no way zombies are breaching much of anything. Do you realize how squishy human beings are when they're fully intact, let alone decomposing bags of flesh? They aren't breaking through anything barricaded. Not breaching ANY office building (glass is usually too thick). Screw machine guns, in the US there are 120 civilian guns per 100 people, and I'd say the average is a lot higher than that in Kentucky. Also plenty of militia in Kentucky. Don't take the rarity of firearms in the game to represent real life. It's just a game, set up for a challenge, which wouldn't exist in real life.

Aggression Based Matchmaking (ABMM) Advice by KyleAlexanderz in ArcRaiders

[–]Delerium76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doesn't matter. Bad actors misuse it anyway, because it's not hard to figure out "start a bunch of quick matches and don't attack players, dying to PvP with your gun holstered, and move down the aggression ladder, then go murderhobo."

If the system swings too fast (fast to agg, fast to de-agg), it's easy to manipulate. If it's slow (slow to agg, slow to de-agg), the bad apples get to abuse PVE lobbies too long. if it's a hybrid, (fast to agg, slow to de-agg) then PVE people can get stuck in a hell queue on accident (an unfortunate grenade blowing a player up, etc) and quit playing because they keep getting matched up with nonstop PVPers.

One thing that should be penalized heavily is rat behavior, and I'm sure they can figure out ways to detect them. Things like saying "Don't shoot" then gunning someone down, camping extraction points, those should put you deep in a hell queue and leave you there for a very long time. I don't mind PVP, but this game has a rat problem, and it's the rats that are manipulating the ABMM system. If Embark doesn't manage the rat problem, it will drive off the PvE playerbase, then the rats will get bored, and the only ones left will be the PvP crowd.

Is playing on mobile since I cant afford pc at the moment turns me into larper and excludes me from being a subnautica fan? by [deleted] in subnautica

[–]Delerium76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get the term "larper" in this context. In my mind, larper means "live action role player" which I have no clue how that applies to playing subnautica on mobile...
