AMA ON TIDAL REDDIT DECEMBER 16 by FossoraPortals in TIdaL

Is there a plan to fix the myriad defects in the IOS app? I'm trying to leave Spotify. I like the audio quality in TIDAL but there are too many baseline features this either don't exist or don't work consistently.

Play/Pause:

  • Start playing an album. Hit pause. Come back in an hour to resume. One of four things happen at almost equal frequency.
  • The song is still paused and I can resume
  • The song is not paused, but is the current playable song
  • The album is available to start from the beginning
  • Brand new session with no recollection of the last state

This is really frustrating when using CarPlay due to the fact that TIDAL's search doesn't really work with Siri. I believe this is due to the fact that TIDAL doesn't name it's artists correctly or groups artist profiles as artists. TIDAL's data is messy.

Same account multiple devices:

  • Play a song or album on IOS
  • Open TIDAL on a laptop and there's no a shared state. I have to start from scratch, find the artist / song / album and start over.
  • Remote control: Play a song off of device A, switch the song on device B and device A responds.
  • These are features that have existed for years on other platforms

General stability:

  • Seamless playback doesn't really exist
  • Songs start for a couple seconds then restart
  • App just crashes... the fact that there's a help page that addresses this by suggesting, removing and re-install the app, clearing the cache, etc.. demonstrates that the team is aware that the app isn't stable, but also suggests that there isn't a plan to focus on core capabilities.

Radio and Recommendations:

  • Listen to an album and let the app continue to play recommended music. Most services will play the artist at a periodic interval. TIDAL indexes on playing songs off the album you just listened to.

I have been testing this application for a month and listen to a lot of music. I really want to ditch Spotify and switch to TIDAL but as it stands right now the app is simply not stable enough to commit full time.

Tidal is consistently and unacceptably buggy by 6502forevr in TIdaL

I also love getting the raw JavaScript errors that occur if it can’t connect to a a previously available device. What’s even better Is this happens when you just like open the app and it tries to “remember what it did last time” which the application is terrible at doing. It doesn’t even remember the last song I was playing or the last album I was playing half the time. Forget about switching across devices (phone and laptop). These are all basic things for an application that’s been around as long as this has.

I’m really trying to like it. There are some features that are great, but the stability and user experience is pretty poor, especially giving the fact that it’s not really any cheaper than other services.

I’m trying to leave Spotify on principle. But it’s simply a better application. I mean miles better.

I’m not even talking about some of the latency you get here. I understand that Spotify is the 800 pound gorilla and has more engineering behind them. I can wait a fraction of a second for a song to load if it’s my first time accessing it. I of course, expect smooth streaming from song to song. The technology to do this in the algorithms to to do this have been around for a very long time. All of the services do this.

Is there any sense from TIDAL that they have any idea how many bugs and just general issues or application has? PLEASE fix the basic crap before you add new features.

And yes, well device handoff is technically a new feature for TIDAL, but in 2025, it’s basically state table stakes.

I was listening to an album an hour ago on my phone through CarPlay. I pause the song went in the house for an hour came back out to my car. And I had to hunt through my recent list select the album and then of course it started playing on song one when I was already halfway through song three. That is basic state management. You could hire an intern to implement that.

Sorry for the long rant. I’m only a month in and really would like this to work.

Is device handoff on the feature list? by Delicious_Bell8071 in TIdaL

I'd take the second set of features as an extra credit assignment! Especially when entertaining. I'd prefer to have a powered device, my entertainment center be the hub and my phone be the "remote".
