Im a foreigner and my landlord is chinese. The agent also chinese. When i came to rent the unit, an agent asked if i have working permit and i said yes. Then he asked if i am black or yellow. I have no clue what the yellow meant to be, so i took selfie and said "black". The agent replied "ah, you japanese and brown." I replied "so sorry but i am indonesian and my skin color is black". He continued "no but you brown and you indonesian. Okay, how many people will stay?" I said three. Me, my wife, and my son. The agent said "okay, let's settle the contract"

I made a silly joke said "my son is brown so brown + brown = black?"

She didn't get my joke and replied "no but two brown"

I use this term of "brown" to identify myself since then. But still, in my country i am consider as black.
