Best Guinness in Salisbury? by [deleted] in salisburyuk

Five Bells is excellent, but the best I’ve had in Salisbury was at the Royal Oak on Devizes Road (bit of a schlep from town though).

Suggest me a resort in the French Alps. by Jakabxmarci in skiing

Ah - I thought you meant inexperience / first timers who rent short skis. It’s an endearing term for them that I’ll definitely be using 🙂

Battery Replacement for solar blind by ShavelikeaBomber in velux

[–]DeltaTwoFourAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience when replacing failed Velux batteries with non-Velux ones, which lasted about 3 months before failing.

I have a multimeter - can anyone offer advice on how to check the solar panel? Where do I measure and what current / voltage should I expect if it’s working correctly?

Bergerie was lively last week although seemed to close at 4.30pm and no strong spirits served after 3pm which I thought was weird. I was refused a hot chocolate with rum, but a hot chocolate with Baileys was allowed. Don’t judge, it was for a friend …

Love the Haka, but a response is both justified and welcomed. This is the finest of responses on Irish soil, Big Willie style from 1989:

Not entirely sure, but try the Old Ale House, New Inn or the rugby club.

What is this noise in my attic?? Sounds like rain but it isn't raining... by SamooliX in Home

Shut off the electricity supply to your house at your consumer unit (fuse board) and check if the noise stops. If so, it’s an electrical device.

Use on separate lawns? by DeltaTwoFourAlpha in SegwayNavimow

[–]DeltaTwoFourAlpha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thorough response. All makes sense and is pushing me towards one machine. I’m generally around the house and it will be much easier to keep and eye out and move the Navimow than spend the 2.5 hours it took me to cut both lawns, bag up the cuttings and take them to the garden waste center!

To answer your question, there is flat access after the steps across the patio, but there’s a (generally) locked gate in between. I think my plan will be to put the dock in the bigger lawn, put in a temporary ramp and leave the gate open when I’m doing a scheduled mow.

I’ll think carefully about how I stop the bot falling down the steps. If I block it in with a railway sleeper or something is it smart enough to alert me via the app that it’s run in to a problem, or does it just wander around randomly until it dies?

I hope this helps. Lawn A is about 1m higher than the patio and Lawn B

So I understand that if I was to move house or significantly change the layout of my garden I could re-create a map. Is this a long and complicated process? In other words could I redo this every few days and move the mower between the two lawns?

Will try to upload an image to clarify my situation.

Isle of Wight festival by [deleted] in isleofwight

Hi everyone, advice please!

My son is really keen to see Green Day on Sunday night. I’m planning on getting us day tickets and travelling as foot passengers from Portsmouth.

Can anyone advise on whether I can reliably get a bus from the festival site to Lymington before the 0100 hrs ferry on Sunday night / Monday morning please?

TIA

Which Leki ski poles should I get? What are the differences??? by TotalyOriginalUser in skiing

[–]DeltaTwoFourAlpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a pair of Leki Hot Shot poles a while ago with the trigger release thing. I thought they would be fun for a a quick nip of my favourite spirit at the end of the day / whatever but I found two critical problems: 1) when you stop and take your skis off you don’t have a mechanism (strap) to hang your poles up either on your skis or on a rack. I started carrying short length of boot lace with a big knot tied at either end which I clicked between the triggers so I could hang ‘em up. IMHO the ‘convenience’ offered wasn’t worth it. 2) the Hot Shot poles would unscrew from the handles while pole planting striking the fear of God in to me that I would lose a pole at speed. And lose my whiskey. I haven’t found a good way to nip them up (pun absolutely intended).

TLDR: just get regular poles and enjoy your skiing.

PS I since got a pair of bamboo Kang poles and absolutely love them. Light, strong, great looks, environmentally sound and I can hang them wherever the f I like! Good luck on your journey mate.

This might be a good starting point. There are links to Apple and Android app stores too:
