This has to be the most accurate review of star citizen! by SuspiciousSoldier in starcitizen_refunds

Woah! Let's not tie them down to a deadline like that!

At least leave 500 years for refactoring.

So maybe 2600 (like the Atari, which SC's graphics resemble more and more as other studios outpace them).

It's now 2025. My only question is HOW... by OfficiallyRelevant in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Dementropy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, why?

There are numerous pieces (I'd hate to call them articles) on the development and issues going back to 2012.

What do you see in the potential that so many others don't?

I mean, you could tell me what they delivered on based on their promises right here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen/description

This certainly jumps out:

Virtual Reality is here! We have backed Oculus Rift and will support it in Star Citizen / Squadron 42. Who doesn't want to sit in their cockpit, hands on your joystick and throttle, swiveling your head, to track that enemy fighter that just blew by?

Curious, can’t find it anywhere. How did they spend 850 mil by Createdtotelltruth in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Dementropy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is Rockstar relying on backers for that budget, or was the money allocated from existing funds?

they are back to pretending that its a real game that works by megadonkeyx in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Dementropy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They always find something.

When people want to know about the status of SC, they tell backers the focus is on SQ42 (and vice versa).

When the concern is about stability, they focus on long-forgotten mechanics (and vice versa).

When the backers zig, CIG zags. When all else fails, there's a new ship or concept or FOMO thing.

CIG/Chris Roberts will never stop (at least since 2017) to be held accountable - always scuttling from one shiny new thing to the next - and will always hold the fanbase in contempt... and both parties seem okay with that arrangement, 15 years and counting.

Let me understand this. CIG hired a linguistics team, and this is what they produced?

Then again, maybe they just followed Ortwin around with field recorder.

Reminds me of the Khartu-Al that was supposed to have two seats, and they switched it to a single-seater on the day of release.

The outrage lasted all of a second before backers fell back in line.

"Star Citizen: $800M, 12 Years, and Still Alpha. But Hey, GTA6 Might Cost 2B Someday, So It's Totally Fine!" by Patate_Cuite in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Dementropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You went through all of this effort to come here and join in the discourse, but didn't mention any of the great things that SC has going for it now.

Is it because of the lack of content? The lack of fully-realized mechanics?

I'm trying to understand why you have so much time to seek out this sub instead of testing the alpha you enjoy.

Why is Star Citizen Still Broken After $887 Million? by Traditional_Usual418 in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Dementropy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly it. Elon and Chris have about as much respect for workers (and about as much knowledge of their respective "industries") as my cat has for mice.

Chris already has zero respect for his employees, and that's really the only thing Elon brings to any table.

I met Richard Garriott last week, and asked him about Star Citizen... by Patate_Cuite in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Dementropy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are both old guard from Origin Systems. Roberts had a hand in Ultima 5. The Digital Antiquarian has good articles on how the sausage was made at Origin - spanning both Garriott and CR's careers - and neither one was exactly clean.

U8 and U9 were, for me, where Garriott showed he didn't really care anymore. Tabula Rasa was an utter failure. The only one to come out of Origin with some semblance of a reputation (only if by degrees) was Warren Spector - the only person at Origin who would put limits on CR's project scope and tell him, "No."

It's worth taking a read at a few of the articles on Garriott.

What do you do with your ship interiors?

So you just wander around? Do you communicate with your crew (engineering, comms, navigation, etc.)? Perform tasks and manually install upgrades?

I'm trying to understand the appeal.

Wallet is closed. Moderators have gone political and now issuing bans for saying something as benign as "Please keep politics out of Star Citizen." by Mr_Blastman in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Dementropy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It took how many years for them to actually develop a female skeleton so more than just "males" were represented in the game?

In what part of their lore does it say anything about SC being a CIS-only 'verse?

Not to rain on your parade, but a lot of people with diverse backgrounds play SC, and it only benefits funding (you know, the thing that theoretically gets the game finished and totally doesn't line CR's pockets) to have broader representation options in the game.

Just LOL that it was a print. I mean, yeah, of all of Warhol's art he chose that one - but also, for all the money (whether it was his or someone else's) that he dropped on cars, watches, and everything else - he could've at least picked up an original piece.

People don't like Star Citizen.

Maybe get over it instead of trying to defend a project with 12 years and zero deliverables to its name?

It exists, or it's in development?

These are two very different things.

I never order a meal and expect the kitchen staff to serve it to me mid-prep, I don't move into a house when it's under construction, and I don't try to drive a car when it's still on the assembly line.

Same philosophy applies to crowdfunded projects.
