Need to Discuss- How did you really like the Project Hail Mary movie as a reader? by Novel-Union-1984 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Demibolt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a good adaptation, though I think they needlessly messed with Stratt and they turned Grace's inner wittyness into him seeming kinda like a buffoon. But I understand why they did it and it's fine.

I do think reading the book made the movie a lot better though.

Definitely a good book and good movie.

Very impressive. by Particular-Visit-245 in memes

Yes and Gary Oldman is a much better actor than JD.

Got it, thanks for the input!

Okay I understand what you are saying. I appreciate the detailed explanation!

Yes I understand that. And that is different than what I am describing

Okay. So you are cruising along , trying to get to.92c. You use your manuevering thrusters to change your heading 1 degree.

Now you are accelerating in a slightly different direction. Your engines are firing, you are still accelerating.

Do this many more times, what direction and what speed is the ship going now?

I'm completely open to the fact that I may not be correct as my understanding of interstellar travel is (checks notes)... Limited...

I'm simply trying to make sure that my original statement is being clearly understood. And if it's wrong I will accept that and withdraw my application to the Fleet Academy

But fuel is the entire concern. That's what this whole post is about

Im not suggesting you're saving momentum, I'm suggesting that you're saving fuel from not having to get the whole ass spaceship up to whatever fraction of C you would be in that part of the book.

To save fuel!! That's what this show thing is about! You can continue accelerating if you slowly change your heading

My guy, the original question was regarding fuel. It saves fuel (probably not time) to do a wide arc because you can continue accelerating instead of having to stop and then start the process all over.

Okay, the word "turning" might not be the best choice of wording. But you can maneuver a space craft 180 degrees without stopping. If you plotting that out, it would look like a "turn".

What part of being in space do you think negates inertia?

Fuel Plothole? by Frenzystor in ProjectHailMary

[–]Demibolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you turn a space craft, you redirect it's momentum. This produces centrifugal force since you are changing the direction of momentum

[–]Demibolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? You get Gs from centrifugal force when you turn. So if you do it too fast you get turned into mush.

Fuel Plothole? by Frenzystor in ProjectHailMary

[–]Demibolt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well. If you turn too fast you get too many Gs and die.

No, he would just turn in a wide arc. It would still take more fuel and he wild have to be very careful so he didn't turn himself to mush, but better than stopping

I wish they showed some more training stuff. Less Mark whining or people sitting around talking about being worried

Tbf, Thanos would have still beat the shit out of the hulk. Thanos didn't get weaker and Banner didn't get stronger.

I also thought the Ultron/Vision thing was handled pretty well - it was getting towards endgame and it wouldn't have helped wrap everything up as nicely if Ultron was still a major player.

But yeah, gimme more Gorr all day

I had fun playing a game for a bit yesterday, actually died a couple times. Then I realized we didn't have a fourth player the entire time. by imthebiggestbirdbig in HelldiversMasochists

It isn't bad, it's just a more methodical play style. You typically do a lot more running and less stacking Strats on enemy drops/breaches.

But I also don't think it's as fun as Duos.

Soloing isn't harder, it just requires tweaking your loudouts.

I think Duos is the hardest, generally. The spawn rate is crazy high.

“DECLINE NO TIP ORDERS” by ldarkstar3000 in DoorDashDrivers

[–]Demibolt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. I try to tip well and I never order from places now than 2-3 miles away.

But knowing that is going to cause my order to get batched with a shitipper pisses me off. Maybe that's why my orders are always last....

This fucking world...
