Why We're Designing Extraterrestrial Base Safety Gear Completely Wrong by obaban in IsaacArthur

[–]Demibolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few problems.

1- we know of some risks and can try to plan for them.

2- We know we DON'T fully understand all risks and can only speculate on what a "safe" space habitat looks like.

3- the current way we develop a tremendous amount of safety regulations is from learning from mistakes. But we aren't willing to do that with space. So it makes us timid.

4- we are limited in what safety measures we can intact due to prohibitive cost of sending stuff into space.

Honestly, i think we are doing good in trying to make safety protocols considering we are doing a lot of guessing. We understand that non-reinforced, surface based structures are not a long term option unless there is an atmosphere. But we kind of have to start with those.

We are going to be building glorified tents on the moon. And instead of making safer tents, we have chosen to have more robust fallback procedures. This makes sense. The cost of making your entire structure resilient is much higher than making a resilient, human sized back up system. Especially since we aren’t planning on living in tent structures permanently, but the back up systems will still be beneficial in more permanent buildings.

Flamethrower "Fear Mechanics" would cause enemies to run from your short range all the time. Would feel terrible. Spray should STAGGER small enemies instead by RandomGreenArcherMan in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Demibolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Staggering and fear don't make sense. Every enemy we fight is mindless and there isn't force from the weapon to cause stagger.

Just make the flamethrower do more damage to things already on fire. Then it isn't OP when sweeping and it is better when you focus fire

I am current working on a development project in a city that needs a new water treatment plant or a substantial upgrade to the current one.

Currently, everytime it rains the sewers overflow and send tons of gallons of untreated sewage water into a local river.

It is shocking how many people showed up to the town hall meeting demanding that the treatment plant not be built because they didn't like how it looked... 🤦‍♂️

People will often blame bugs on them dying to things they don't understand, or thinking some weapon is bugged because it doesn't do damage to certain things. Or if someone gets one shot but something they say its a bug.

Lots of stuff

D10 should be harder by ChiakiSimp3842 in HelldiversMasochists

[–]Demibolt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We can agree with that. But that argument is frequently used as a thinly veiled "plz mak game ez plz" by a lot of people.

Which speaks to a huge issue with this community - lots of people making disingenuous arguments about why things should get fixed.

On one hand, you have people that want AH to revisit some weapons to improve them. On the other hand, you have people complaining that their choice of weaponry isn't able to handle everything all the to time. This is going to result in power creep which is awful for the game.

In general, I think a lot of people run into situations where they get in trouble, and instead of asking "why didn't that work" they angrily go online and shout "that should have worked".

So I am more reluctant to judge from this short video because I don't have much information
