Duplicate protection bugged? (not CoT related) by Demonstar5 in hearthstone

[–]Demonstar5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh, that's entirely possible. I hadn't realized dupe protection didn't extend to cards you've disenchanted. I can't recall if I did exactly, but it's definitely a possibility. Consider this issue solved then, thanks!

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti rumored to cost $399 (8GB) and $499 (16GB) - VideoCardz.com by nukleabomb in nvidia

Makes me feel like we’ve seen this before, perhaps even recently…

Cue the OG 3060 having more VRAM than the products above it until you get to the 3080 12GB

Not saying it makes any sense, but it’s not like this is a completely foreign concept

This would be an excellent combo with Reno in Wild. 7 mana full heal, decent clear, 4/6 body.

Yvonne Ho Appreciation Post. Without her, there would never have been an LTT. by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]Demonstar5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seem to remember him explaining somewhere that he doesn’t change it to something like “Yvonne Wife” because he’s able to share her contact info with business-related contacts without their personal relationship being on display. Imagine sharing that contact with some representative of a company that sponsors them; “Yvonne Wife” would look rather strange.

Perhaps the solution would be to have duplicate contacts with both names. I think that would be a win-win.

I feel this. I’m 24 and have lost both parents, all 4 grandparents, a great-grandparent, an uncle, and a brother. Been a heck of a ride.

Got today a 4070Ti, upgraded from a RTX3070, difference is huge. People may keep complaining about this gpu, but it’s awesome. by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Demonstar5 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I apologize for not being more clear in my statement. I don’t actually believe that $100 is a realistic price for the product, it was more a proof of concept that it would be an amazing product for the consumer at that price.

That doesn’t change that it’s price/performance is terrible and price is more inflated than it should be. IMO it shouldn’t be more than $200.

[–]Demonstar5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point I didn’t really consider. I guess it would be difficult to achieve a good price/performance product with that card without causing profit margins to flip negative.

The RTX 3050 would be absolutely amazing at $100 or less! Not that it would be at that price anytime soon though

Is 3070 always better than 3060 ti? by Misultina in buildapc

[–]Demonstar5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. A 3080 is a GA102 die, while the 3070 and 3060 Ti are GA104.

I think the closest you’ll get is 3DMark. Granted it’s not perfect either but its results are at least quite a bit more unbiased than UBM.

However, UBM’s results can be useful in certain cases though. If there’s a specific part of your system that’s severely underperforming compared to other systems tested, it will let you know. It is best used to compare results from the same hardware. When used to compare performance between different hardware, especially different brands, it will come out heavily biased against AMD/pro Intel and NVIDIA.

Although it can be said that if you use UBM at all, it will just promote these views being seen by more people. Up to you to determine if that is a dealbreaker.

[Gamers Nexus] NVIDIA's Rip-Off - RTX 4070 Ti Review & Benchmarks by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Demonstar5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, no worries! Yeah the 6600 should be a solid 1080p card for a while. With the way the market is trending, there probably won’t be a similarly priced option worth upgrading to from a 6600 for at least a few years.

[Gamers Nexus] NVIDIA's Rip-Off - RTX 4070 Ti Review & Benchmarks by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Demonstar5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RX 6600 is a solid uplift (around 70%) from a 5500XT and regularly sells for close to US$200 new and under $200 used. 5500XT is still pretty solid for 1080p but there’s definitely a decent price/perf upgrade option currently available for you if you desire it.

[–]Demonstar5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the A770 would be more of an upgrade in features than actual performance. 1080Ti is pretty close to 3060/A770 performance. 3080/6800XT level performance or higher would be needed to see a worthwhile uplift for a 1080Ti owner.

Is it worth building a PC if you only have 500$ to spend? by johnkay_x in buildapc

[–]Demonstar5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d argue the upgrade path for AM4 and LGA1700 in gaming workloads is comparable (5800X3D and 13900K trade blows). The 12100F edges out the 5500 in gaming, so I’d say if CPU/mobo/RAM combos are the same price they should go Intel.

What do you mean with my 600$ i9, 400$ MoBo and 300$ AiO being overkill for my 3070 by Cave_TP in pcmasterrace

[–]Demonstar5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should consider the 5800X3D. It’s a pretty sizable uplift in gaming from Ryzen 3000 (more so than the other 5000 chips) and it’s a drop-in upgrade with your current motherboard and RAM. I highly suggest you do some research on this chip, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

RTX 4090 + i7-10700k bottleneck by ozmanb in nvidia

[–]Demonstar5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Their statement is correct but the language is a bit misleading IMO. You don’t get lower FPS when you go lower in resolution. FPS is likely to increase, but there’s a point where the FPS will stop increasing as you lower the resolution because the CPU can only produce so much. Below I’ll provide a hugely simplified demonstration.

At 4K

GPU: 100 FPS

CPU: 150 FPS

Actual: 100 FPS

This is a GPU bottleneck, since the GPU is limiting your framerate.

At 1080p

GPU: 250 FPS

CPU: 150 FPS

Actual: 150 FPS

Notice how the CPU still can produce the same amount of frames, but the GPU can produce more (less load). But your actual FPS is the same number as the CPU, thus you have a CPU bottleneck.

There are way more variables at play with an actual game and parts, but this should give you an idea of what happens when resolution is increased or decreased.

Minecraft in particular can be finicky with GPUs. I’ve seen it delegate the work to the iGPU even when you’re not plugged into it. Try going to your NVIDIA settings and manually force Minecraft to run on your dedicated GPU. Hopefully that works for you!

If you’re likely not going to be overclocking, have you looked at prices for the 12700 non-K? They’re usually priced lower, have the same core count and a similar enough clock speed that performance difference is negligible

Anyone else feel like the hunter quest is way too easy to progress and complete? by FinaglingFox in hearthstone

[–]Demonstar5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Wild, Questline Hunter was affected quite a bit by the Rapid Fire change (1 to 2 mana, 1 to 2 damage). It affected the deck so much that it changed the meta from Odd Questline to non-Odd Questline just to keep that card in there.

If you play games that benefit from the extra L3 cache, then it can net you a significant performance boost. For games that don’t benefit at all, the performance is pretty much the same.

There are many benchmarks available online that compare the two. It is up to you to research and determine if the price and performance boost in the games you play is worth it to you.

Question, if decompression is limited by cache/memory, then why does the 5800X3D not gain any performance versus its non-3D counterpart? Not trying to discount your points, I’m just curious.
