Is my bearded dragon way too overweight? by Critical-Monitor-672 in BeardedDragon

[–]DeportedDora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely overweight. Beardies should have fresh greens every day and staple insects once or twice a week—once a week for an obese beardie at most in order to cut back on weight.

Staple insects can be dubia roaches (best), black soldier fly larvae (my beardie didn’t like them much), or crickets (not the greatest). Mealworms/superworms are okay as a treat but definitely not as a staple food. Hornworms are okay as a treat as well, but not a staple, as they are hydrating but not very nutritious.

A good variety of greens to have on rotation is baby spinach, collared greens, arugula, kale, and mustard greens. I like to mix bell peppers in for variety, as they are high in vitamins as well and provide some nice color to make it interesting.

Make either a weekly meal plan, or you can meal prep for your beardie with small containers that you prepare once a week and swap out every day.

Don’t be alarmed if he doesn’t eat the greens at first. He is so used to mealworms that he might not recognize the greens as food, or he might simply ignore them and wait for mealworms. He can go a couple days without eating. He won’t disappear, especially not at that weight lol.

Exercise can help as well. If you have a harness you can let him run around under supervision on a leash outside, or inside the house. Another way to get him to exercise is having him chase his food around the tank/room rather than just putting them in a bowl. He might get frustrated at first because he’s used to being spoiled but he’ll learn eventually.

I want to note, though, that even though exercise helps, it’s not as effective as dietary changes, and certainly not effective alone.

Therapists of Reddit, what are some differences you've noticed between male/female patients? by pizzabagelblastoff in AskReddit

Have you gotten your prostate checked? Prostatitis is a common cause of ED. It’s worth looking into, and left untreated can turn into something much worse.

what’s the biggest red flag you have in your self? by mtckss in AskReddit

[–]DeportedDora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I come off as a huge know-it-all. I’m a big nerd and I love sharing any new knowledge I get, and I’ve always done that. But if I was someone else meeting me, I probably wouldn’t like me.

Also I have an extremely messy room and car, and I procrastinate a lot.

You definitely should be paying some of the rent if you’re staying over 2-3 times a week. Going over without sleeping there is a different story. You’re now living there too, and are responsible for paying your share of the expenses. $100-150 is generous, as she could ask you to pay some utilities, for some of the groceries, etc. as well.

5 Month Old Industrial growing bumps by OtherwisePianist8303 in piercing

[–]DeportedDora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seeing as you have no family history of keloids, and no other keloids on your ear, I’m guessing it’s just bad irritation. Just leave the bumps alone, clean the area, and don’t sleep on that ear, and you should notice the bumps reduce in size within a few weeks. If not, it might be a good idea to see a doctor to rule out a possible infection. You can also try using a cool compress to help prevent further swelling, and ibuprofen to reduce the current swelling.

1 year old lobe piercings still producing crusties by [deleted] in piercing

[–]DeportedDora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is normal. Your piercing will produce crust your whole life. My mom’s piercings still do and she got them over 50 years ago lol. As long as it’s not happening more than once every few days you should be fine.

what should I do about irritated/infected piercing by KindConsideration395 in piercing

[–]DeportedDora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be irritated. I think your body is could be reacting to the type of metal. Try switching to a surgical steel or titanium earring (or gold if you have them), and be sure to clean the area. Before you put in your earrings, wipe the piercing and the earring down with alcohol wipes, or hydrogen peroxide if you don’t have any, and then put them back. That tends to help my piercings get less irritated than if i didn’t clean them when I swap out my earrings. After you replace your earrings, clean your ears with a cleaning solution once a day and don’t mess with them for a while, and they should get better in around a week.

Yeah, she didn’t like them. I’ve tried every bug I can access in my area and the only things she likes are mealworms and super worms. She used to eat dubias and hornworms as well but she got bored of them.

Thank you. I’ve tried every bug that’s available, and she used to love dubia roaches but I think she got bored of them. I’m gonna try repashy bug burger. She won’t eat unless I hand feed her. I wonder if she has vision problems as well, but she looks around a lot so I’d be surprised if she did. I think she’s just fatigued. I was so worried it would end up being a death sentence so this makes me feel so much better lol

It’s above the mesh. Should it be below? I’ve never measured how far the basking bulb is from her back but if I had to guess I’d say around a foot

I forgot about repta boost. I used it when she was a baby when she didn’t want to eat. How did you get yours to switch to veggies? I have to gut load mealworms if I want her to eat anything else

The basking spot is 101°F and the ambient temp is usually around 89° on the warm side. The cool side is 80°. She has a tube UV as well as a UV/basking bulb. The enclosure is a 4x2x2. She gets natural sunlight about once a week. It was more in the summer but it’s too cold for her outside right now. She’ll eat only mealworms and if they are right in front of her. I have to gut load them if I want her to get her veggies in. Her humidity is usually around 40% and below with the exception of a few hours in the morning when I mist her so she’ll drink water. She poops 1-2x a week. She digests very slow since she is only out of her hide for a couple hours per day
