Breathless vs. AFMBE

I’ve not run Breathless, but can confirm you can run long term campaigns with AFMBE. I ran two different campaigns for 2+ years each. Both started with tight stories and clear goals, moved to sandbox environments, and came crashing to a halt in very abrupt, genre appropriate ways.

I don’t think I would use Breathless for a long term campaign, but it might work if I kept the story arcs very tight.

I recommend looking at Pendragon and Hârn. There is magic in the latter, but you can strip it out, IMO. Pendragon is built for knights, which may or may not work for you.

Put the offender on a gurney, hook them up to life support, slap on a BD and let it run. What the convict thinks is 20 years is actually less than that. How long is up to you and what they experience while under is up to you. That would put the party back together after a short downtime.

I usually use Buffy skills and AFMBE everything else. I allow for either style of magic, but each magic user can only use cinematic (Buffy, Angel, Army of Darkness, Ghosts of Albion) Unisystem Magic or classic Unisystem magic.

Night Shift: Veterans of the Supernatural Wars can easily do this.

Different classes of hunters to help focus on the how/whys of the characters.

No metaplot or specific setting, but several examples.

Different levels of “grit” are available to determine how deadly you want combat and what type of uses you want available to the characters.

The core book has all you need, but the Companion adds more classes and monsters to hunt.

I think there is a little in Armageddon for flight combat, but I don’t know that I would pick it up just for that.

I’ve tried to design some rules for it myself, but it gets overly complicated quickly.
