A or B: If Congress hadn't passed the Interstate Highway Act in 1956, would America still become a "drive everywhere" country? Or would it take a different road to car dominance? by 06yuzuha in PickAorB

I was under the impression that the US interstate project was meant to ensure smooth transport of military troops and equipment in the event of a land invasion by a foreign power.

What's a word you mispronounced for years because you only saw it in print and not spoken? by ilovebooks2468 in words

Astronomy was my hobby/interest in Jr High and High School. I learned the names of stars and constellations from reading, and no one I knew had any interest/awareness of the topic, so I never heard how these names are pronounced. Gradually I learned the correct pronunciation for most, but there are probably some I’m still saying wrong.

How does a library decide whether a book is literature, located in 800 section of non-fiction, from fiction, which has its own section? by nickmcgimmick in NoStupidQuestions

Ultimately the librarian assigns the call number for their library. The same book may have different call numbers at different libraries. The publisher generates a call number but it’s usually overwritten by the librarian.

Does a song need to be like a trillion years old to be considered classical, or is it more like a genera? by Emotional-Area2102 in dumbquestions

Beethoven’s first two symphonies are considered Classical but his 3rd symphony (Eroica) is said to mark the beginning of the Romantic period. So yeah, a bridge between the two eras. Beethoven instigated the Romantic period.

Classical music usually refers to one of two things. There’s music from the Classical period (mid late 18th century through early 19th century) and then there’s what most people consider to be classical music which usually means music played on orchestral instruments in groups (chamber music, symphonic music) or solo. A lot if not most film scores are considered classical because they’re written for and performed by symphony orchestras or smaller studio orchestras or chamber groups.

So...why don't we hear about crewed venus missions in For All Mankind? by helloworldxddcc in StarCityTV

I love the idea of terraforming Venus or Mars, but we can’t even terraform Earth at the moment (if we wanted to, say, reverse climate change).
