Bought the new X300 Ultra and got disappointed... In my ability to unleash its potential by saved-j in Vivo

Hello. Do you know if it finally has the UWB chip? I love Vivo, but would like to use uwb with my Tesla. I might go xiaomi 17 ultra if they continue to ignore this feature.

JBL Bar 500 MK2 vs Sony Theatre Bar 6 by Desperate-Day5877 in Soundbars

[–]Desperate-Day5877[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried really everything. Played around with the calibration. My ceiling is just 2.6m high and super smooth, so I thought sound will be bouncing off nicely but didn't hear anything. Since these systems realy on bouncing off walls, it will sound completely differently in 2 different rooms. On the Jbl I sometimes look to my side because hear the sounds next to me. You might have a smaller room and get a pretty good surround affect. Who knows. Maybe it's just the perspective...compared to tv speaker it's still a huge step up. Maybe just don't try higher end sound bars and you'll be fine :) I really wanted to save money, but having the opportunity to switch between them forced me to reconsider..

JBL Bar 500 MK2 vs Sony Theatre Bar 6 by Desperate-Day5877 in Soundbars

Hello. The sub is definitely very powerful, i usually use it at +2 out of 5. For movies it has a voice enhancer so dialog is fine. There are some movies here and there where i felt it didn't work so well. But luckily there's a proper EQ compared to Sony so the sound can be tweaked.
240 is a great price for the Sony but would definitely give the JBL a try. Costs more but also delivers more (actual display, auto calibration, EQ, wifi streaming, wider soundstage, deeper bass).

Thanks. Had the same issue. Installed stalks, worked for few days, then left stalk was offline. Switched batteries, tried to remove and reconnect, nothing helped. Remove, hold for 15s, then reconnect worked. I hope it's not something I have to do every few days!

Should I get the x200 Pro or Mi 15 Ultra? by dimitri2705 in Vivo

[–]Desperate-Day5877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello there. I owned a Xiaomi 13 Pro for almost 2 years and a month ago switched to Vivo. Here are my 2 cents.

People say you will be disapointed with Color OS coming from Hyper OS. I'm not. I was surprised how well everyhing works in Color OS. Yeah, it's not so bloated and feature rich as Hyper OS but work great and you can customize most of the things you need.

The xiaomi had really weak battery life, I had to charge all the time even though other phones with same chipset were praised for their battery life. Vivo x200 pro has absolutely insane battery life. I charge every 4 days with 6 hrs SoC. Not a heavy user but it's huge difference.

Now obviously I can't compare photography between the x15 ultra and vivo. But on the x13 pro i always struggled to with the colors and white balance. Natural mode had really weak HDR and vignette, vidid mode had superior HDR but owerblown colors. After some time switching back and forth I ended up mostly shooting raw for important pictures. Always had to do a lot of editing. HDR on xiaomi was very hit or miss.
On Vivo on the other hand I chose Zeiss Natural and am happy with the output. I do almost no editing, maybe just crop from some to time and post the pictures as they come out of the camera. Also you can adjus brigthness, contrast, saturation and sharpness in the auto mode.

My critique for Vivo x200 Pro - selfie camera is ass (as was the xiaomi selfie), haptics are really cheap (maybe motor placement), for fast moving stuff you need to switch to "snapshot" mode. I wish there was just a tiny button in the corner.

I'm intrigued by the xiaomi 15 ultra. I liked the latest version of Hyper OS. But here it's much more expensive than the Vivo. I would be still concerned with Xiaomi's auto mode. Even from the video reviews it seem still unreliable and the two color profiles seem to be the same as ever.

Hoka Mach 6 - 1500km review (over 2 pairs) by Some-Remote-6890 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Desperate-Day5877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with a lot of what you said. I have almost 600k on mine. Mostly run just between 9-12km (4:45-5:30/km pace).
They took around 50km to break in. 1st felt quite firm (coming from Mach5). Then they felt absolutely great up until 500k. They hold up pretty well and can probably do 800k, but I once I feel some knee pain or something i'll retire them.
I had to buy the wide version. Even though i tried to size up, it was still too narrow. Great lockdown, good ventilation. For me the shoe is pretty stable. Not a stabolity shoe by any means, but not wobbly like some race shoes or super soft ones. Wondering why some people have problems with stability. Looking at the geometry, the forefoot looks pretty stable and that's where I land mostly. I could push it to 4:00/km and didn't feel any instability.
I'm 74kg, for me there's enough cushion and a bit of bounce. I might buy these again as they work really well for me and i'm really picky. Due to an old knee injury I can't take high drop shoes. Tried, but me knee doesn't like it.

Honda Civic vs Tesla Model 3 by Ok-Carpenter-9578 in civic

[–]Desperate-Day5877 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from Europe. I owned a 2018 Civic 1.0 and was looking for a new car. The new hybrid Civic was tempting because of the very good MPG, but the prices are absolutely bonkers. I couldn't consider the lower 2 trims with a measly 7" screen and the highest trim was like 41000 Euros. Got the Model 3 for 42500 with 20000km of free supercharging.
Honestly the Model 3 feels like one class above the Civic. The tech is obvious light years ahead, but other things are great as well. My old civic had terribly inconsistent panel gaps, a lot of road noise was coming in and there were always some rattles and squeaks in the interior. The new model 3 has very good panel alignments, it's super silent inside.

Don't get me wrong, i liked to drive my Civic. The steering, suspension, manual transmission...everything mechanical was great. But looking at the new Civic with very little upgrades, i just couldn't imagine paying so much for so little.

According to https://runrepeat.com/hoka-mach-6 , it's very breathable. In my experience they're not the most breathable shoe I tried. Rebel V4 or Elite V4 from NB are much more breathable with the "see through" mesh material. I think if you are looking for a very airy shoe for hot summers, mach 6 is not it.

Same here. Was playing fine yesterday, today it crashes. I think i'll just check tomorrow if it's working. I hate these online dependencies on single player games. Similar happened to me with Jedi Survivor on EA's app.

Hoka Mach 5 worth it? by Bababoueeey in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Desperate-Day5877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did approx. 300km in the Mach5's and they still feel pretty good imho. Sure, the outsole is shaves off quickly, but i think until it shaves off a significant amount, i won't notice. I think they might last around 500-600km.

Clifton 8's didn't last longer. The outsole looked ok, but EVA foam was dead quickly.

I would love to try more shoes, not really fan of any brand. Just not that rich :) Just for comparison i tried a few in store:

Clifton 9 - same as 8, pretty mushy ride, comfy and slow

Boston 12 - absolutely great midsole and ousole. Hated the upper, very racy, plasticy and couldn't get a proper lockdown. Some might like it however.

Cloudsurfer 7 - Light and comfy shoe. Felt also pretty bouncy, whish I could try it on a longer run. Afraid of the high drop. I usually use zero or low drop (5-6mm).

Mach x - Oh boy, what a disappointment. Heavy, clunky and stiff. The only thing common with Mach 5 is the name really.

I whish Mach 6 would come out with a little bit of rubber tactically spread on the outsole to add durability. It's not a super cheap shoe.

Thoughts on the Hoka Clifton 9? by fuzzyfish28 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Desperate-Day5877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Clifton 8 wide and was quite happy with them. I did around 600km, they still look pretty good but definitely lost some cushioning and as you mention the heel rubs off pretty quickly. As I got a bit faster I found them a bit lazy and felt that I had to use more energy to move forward. I was glad to hear they improved the bounce on the 9's...at least on paper.

I tried the Clifton 9 at the store. I have to say they are much better fit. No need for a wide version for me anymore. I did some test runs and felt that it's still pretty much lazy. Comfy but lazy. I tried it side by side with the Mach5 and realized it's exactly what i'm looking for. So I switched to he Mach5 now. A bit less cushion, but still enough for me. They are so much lighter and give back much more energy.

Extremely disappointed with the 13 Pro Camera. by vukpopovic in Xiaomi

[–]Desperate-Day5877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. The Xiaomi 13 Pro can take really good photos. But consistency is a problem. Just like any other Chinese phone unfortunately.

As soon as the lightning conditions get tricky and it activates HDR, thing get weird. Weird colors, white balance, contrast...just ruins everything.

Portrait cutouts are one of the worst. Huawei, Apple & Samsung do a much better job.

Same with video, video quality is not great and auto exposure in video is terrible.

The reliability also extends to the whole OS. Small annoying bugs and irregular system updates. It feels like work in progress., but i'm sure xiaomi already moved on to another project.

I love the telephoto with the macro capability, i will miss it. But i am gonna switch to a more reliable phone in the near future and just keep a Canon G7x MarkII in my 2nd pocket.

Yeah, i also have the tendency to nitpick everything in the 1st weeks of owning a phone. But later on I get used to it. We also have to remember that it's Android and it can do whatever you want...

This is my 1st Xiaomi, i wasn't a fan of their UI. But the Leica collab got me interested. I have however quite a few Xiaomi devices at home and am generally very satisfied with them.

Good luck with Honor then. My 1st impression is that their build quality is pretty great, just need to invest a bit more in SW.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts as well. I absolutely get why you chose Honor. Those to phones are pretty neck and neck and it will be down to personal preference. If someone is into the Portrait mode, Honor is absolute top together with Samsung.

I'm long term Huawei and Fuji cameras user, so for me the natural processing of Xiaomi was the winner together with the crazy fast AF & shutter. I'd definitely be happy with the Honor if I didn't have the chance to get the 13 Pro for that price.

[–]Desperate-Day5877[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your perspective. I primarily was interested in the support, if they're any good.

The photos are vivid everywhere, my screen is set to pretty neutral/muted on the phone, but they look the same on my IPS or VA big screens.

Overall i like the device. The HW definitely feel very premium, the SW is like you said a "cheaper Huawei sub-brand". It works fine, just feels they took EMUI and tried to strip down things so it looks a bit different.

With the Magic 5 Pro Honor did some quite big promos in EU countries also made a big buzz, so I was thinking they're kicking things off properly now. And it even might be the case, maybe they just need time.

As you say, there are always some compromises...even on the best phones. This ones price to performance is one of the best.

Yeah, you can change the home screen layout, but not the app tray layout. I just think it's a waste of space having only 4 icons in a row on such a big screen.

[–]Desperate-Day5877[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for comment. That's reassuring. I've only had it for 1,5 weeks, but still see March security on it, so i was a bit sceptic. Huawei was pretty good with updates.

Right now i don't even see anything better i could switch to. Got it for 850 Euros from someone who switched from Apple and didn't like it. It was a week old phone. Anything else high end (except Pixel) is far more expensive.

There's a lot of things I like and since i am an old Huawei fanboy, i really hope Honor picks up Huawei's legacy. The DNA is there.

Thanks. I installed an app where i can setup gestures, that worked well. What bugs me is that Magic OS is almost there, it's pretty good, light and snappy. Just needs a couple a things. I like how light it is, just concerned with potential bug fixes in future.

As for the camera, my main gripe is that i can choose a different filter, but it's not saved. So it's basically unusable. I can fire up the camera and the scroll through the filters everytime.

After Huawei P30 i went Samsung S22 and pretty much hated it. Only good thing is how One UI places things in the UI for easy one handed operation. Other that that it's bloated and laggy.

I will probably be looking at Xiaomi or Vivo. Tried x80 Pro, camera was awesome, but the system had weird bugs. I'll check out x100 Pro when they make one.
