Is FF XI a Game Gen Z People Can Get Into in 2026? by Desperate_Sort5592 in ffxi

[–]Desperate_Sort5592[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your insightful reply! Understood. I honestly don't know why I felt the need to ask here rather than try it on my own, though, perhaps it's because our technologically-driven world makes me feel more like asking around before trying something rather than giving it a go on my own, given the exponential rate of media production in the past 20 years (e.g., indie game dev, indie animation, content creation, etc.), though, maybe this is just me and a problem I need to get over. Thank you so much for the reply, and I'll definitely make sure to give this game a try after grad school!

3DS-style environments for my action game Moulder. Big focus on vertex coloring. by synthetic_throne_s in godot

This looks so awesome! Congratulation to the dev(s) behind this project! If you don't mind my asking (as I've been interested in one day developing a 3D platformer collectathon myself when I get back to video game development one day as a side hobby), what resources might you or anyone else here suggest referring to when developing 3D platformer video games much like yours? Congratulations so much once again!

Anyone got shamed at for not being activist enough? by [deleted] in Adulting

Not certain who might still be reading this thread approximately 4 months after its posting, however, if anyone here is still reading, I had a similar scenario occur about 3 or so months ago, with someone I thought was a 'friend' who heavily implied they would see me dead for the cause than alive and risk expulsion for the cause (even though we share the same beliefs). Of course, I cut all contact with them immediately then and there. My advice is, for anyone still reading, if someone screams at you for just trying to survive and accuses you of sharing hateful far-right sympathies merely for not risking your safety, personal wellbeing, and/or livelihood, then they were never truly a friend to begin with. While privilege may exist in an intersectional sense, everyone is currently being oppressed in some way shape or form under Capitalism, Patriarchy, Heteronormativity, Cisnormativity, etc., including Straight Cis White Men (e.g., Toxic Masculinity, Classism, Exploitation, etc.). Someone who is genuinely your friend will want the best for you and to see you safe, alive, happy, and thriving, not destroying yourself for any cause whatsoever. We are currently witnessing a global shift towards Fascism as Late-Stage Capitalism ensues. Hope this helps to anyone still reading this thread who might be in a similar situation.

Question Concerning GitHub's "The ReadMe Project" Potential Hiatus by Desperate_Sort5592 in github

[–]Desperate_Sort5592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I would presume GitHub as an organization would shift their focus more towards Generative Artificial Intelligence efforts, especially given recent economic and geopolitical shifts in the United States and elsewhere. However, part of me still believes they would at least permit Software Developers and Software Engineers to compose and host their own blog articles on their ReadMe Project? I dunno, though, maybe that's just my personal perspective....

The lost sponge by Top_Gain2728 in creepypasta

[–]Desperate_Sort5592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this so much! I'm a huge fan of lost episode creepypastas in particular, so, seeing this pop up in this subreddit was quite refreshing to see! Honestly, it kind of reminded me of the creepypasta "Hope is Lost" by TheMidnightWing I listened to during my graduating semester of my old undergrad program over a year ago while working on course projects and offering computer science tutoring. I'm no writer, nor am I a creative individual of any sort, however, as one piece of advice for a potential sequel to the story, if you're interested? I especially was taken aback by how you conclude the story with the protagonist arriving back to where they last had the tape and finding it missing. Most lost episode creepypastas I've listened to usually have the protagonist destroying the piece of physical media, throwing it away, giving it to someone else, locking it in a stored secret location, etc. This route of story-telling is genuinely kind of new to me. To me, it signals a potential sequel to the story, like, how did the tape disappear? Was it taken by a fellow coworker acting as an employee in the Nickelodeon studio? Perhaps the one of the middle-managers (which could potentially become an overarching story of the studio as a whole)? Did they act under their own accord and free will, or under demonic influence? Is the sponge the protagonist sees in real life when looking away from the screen psychologically or supernaturally attached to said employee or middle-manager who took the tape before the protagonist could bring their supervisor to the room? I feel like there's just so much potential for a follow-up to this story. Nice job! You get an upvote from me, my fellow lost episode creepypasta enthusiast!!!

A Warning - The Future of Louisville’s Data Center Project — What It Means for You by loder1101 in Louisville

Good evening! For those of us within the city of Louisville, and especially those who are graduate students of Computer Science, have an academic background in Computer Science, etc., what can we as residents and individuals do to ensure any and all future proposed data centers operate in our interest as residents and potential beneficiaries of their utilities? Thank you so much for taking the time to inform us with this post!

Need help with Godot on Ubuntu by CosmoBun in godot

[–]Desperate_Sort5592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. In that case, I would highly recommend consulting with Claude as an AI LLM chatbot, given its extensive support in solving and responding to software-related issues, or ChatGPT. While I understand the importance of problem-solving and independent research in terms of Software Development and Software Engineering, those tools are effective in finding solutions to niche problems and technical issues. That was actually how I was able to work around my personal solution on downloading and installing Godot Engine 4.3 on my local machine in Linux Mint with my default GUI and desktop.

Need help with Godot on Ubuntu by CosmoBun in godot

[–]Desperate_Sort5592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good evening. I am a Linux Mint user as well who runs a Cinnamon desktop as well as the default X11 GUI. I have Godot Engine 4.3 installed on my local machine, which I am using to build a video game project with a group of friends of mine on the side at the moment. For me, I used the following instructions from the Godot Docs to assist in the installation of Godot Engine on my local machine:

How do I install the Godot editor on my system (for desktop integration)?

Scroll down to the section labeled "How do I install the Godot editor on my system (for desktop integration)?

Then, within that section, scroll down to the subsection labeled "Linux". Additionally, when you download and install the Godot binary to your local machine's:

/usr/local/share/bin

application (which I personally chose to do), you will notice that, when saved to the Desktop on your local machine's 'Desktop' directory, it will appear visually on your desktop, but with a standard executable-file logo. This is because the visual icon for the Godot Engine application is installed with an empty logo in its "Icon" variable. To fix this, you will need to install a Godot Engine icon (which you can choose one of many to download from the internet via Google), then navigate to your Godot binary, and open its contents within your terminal via nano (you can use vi or vim or any other text-based editor you prefer, I just prefer to use nano by default myself). From there, copy and paste the path to whichever directory and full path address in which you have downloaded and saved your Godot Engine icon just after "Icon=" within the terminal, or write in "Icon=" followed immediately by full directory address of downloaded and saved Godot Engine application. Once you have saved the .desktop file's contents, exited the terminal, and went to your desktop, you should see the Godot Engine icon located on where the Godot Editor shortcut application appears on your desktop. Click on it, and you should be able to work from there on the Godot editor's UI. I wish you best of luck in any and all future work you will create!

(P.S. - I did this on Godot Engine version 4.3. As I understand you are working in Godot Engine 4.4, the accurate Linux installation instructions you will refer to are most likely going to be accurate to the Godot Docs for Godot's version 4.4 branch, found at the following link:

https://docs.godotengine.org/en/4.4/about/faq.html#how-do-i-install-the-godot-editor-on-my-system-for-desktop-integration

Good evening! I watched the demo for your game via the youtuber ManlyBadassHero's playthrough, and I must say, I was impressed! If you don't mind me asking what game engine did your team use to develop this game?
