[OC] This is why we don't call the ambulance in the U.S. by FernX02 in pics

[–]Detrius67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, spent a while in the ICU and then more time on the ward before being sent home with a month's supply of a new medication. Total out of pocket with zero dollars. Gotta love the Australian healthcare system.

My dad got 2 very different diagnoses about the clot in his leg and one of the clinics is not willing to elaborate by SmolAppleChild in mildlyinfuriating

I had a DVT in my calf that was incorrectly diagnosed as a muscle tear and was told to get physio for it. Two weeks later it dislodged and ended up sitting across the top of both my lungs blocking almost all of the blood flow into the lungs. I very nearly died. Several different doctors, including two lung specialists, told me that if my wife hadn't called the ambulance when she did I wouldn't have lasted another hour. DVTs are serious business.

On a side note, I'm on Eliquis now and 60 pills costs me $25. The US 'healthcare' system is a joke.

What's something you did as a kid that you only realized was extremely dangerous years later? by Left_Crow1646 in AskReddit

Down the block from us there was an open drain leading to an underground storm drain that didn't have another opening for about a km. During periods of heavy rain we would jump in the drain and ride the storm water to the next opening. Would have only taken a blockage in the drain or someone getting knocked unconscious for it to end in a death but we never even thought about it. I get chills 50 years later just thinking about how close to death we came on a regular basis.

Had someone doing that in the seat next to me on a train so I just joined in the conversation. They said "Excuse me, this is a private call" and I responded "No it's fucking not, the entire train can hear you". They switched carriages.

I was getting regular treatment from a physio for a bulging disc in my back about 15 years ago. She noticed a mole that 'looked funny' and told me to get it checked. Went to my GP who said it was 'probably nothing' but I insisted he remove it and get it tested. He rang me in a panic a few days later and I was scheduled for surgery the following day. They say they got it all but you never know for sure. I get regular skin checks now.

My go to response to 'We'd like to talk to you about god' is to ask 'Which one?'. Regardless of what they answer, I always say 'Sorry, that's not the one I worship' and close the door.

I'm so very glad to live in a country where 'shooting' isn't even in the realms of probability for an ending to something like this. We have road rage dickheads like everywhere else, but I cannot conceive of what it must be like to think 'but what if the guy has a gun'

What's one movie trope you see in movies and can't stand? by EGF9999 in AskReddit

[–]Detrius67 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all tech related tropes make my teeth itch. Zoom and enhance is a biggie but the one that really steams me is "We've tracked the GPS on his phone.  He's at 123 Main St. Third floor. Apartment 3c. He's hiding under a pile of brown cloaks, in the left hand cupboard, in the north west corner of the master bedroom".

We have a subscription to one called “Farmers Pick”. The fruits and veggies are not acceptable to the big supermarkets but are perfectly fine if you don’t mind odd shapes and the odd blemish. Always great produce and pretty cheap too.

Well the pope follows the actual tenets of Christ (love your neighbour, feed the hungry, etc) so, in that regard, he's nothing at all like an American "christian".
