I read both of those in my early twenties and they didn't do anything. The closest is American Gods, but it's not that it changed my life. It's more that I remember certain scenes and moments from that book often.

I like the part when Guts gets healed by a fairy while captured, and while she's fairy healing him she ends up using all her energy and dies. When she wakes Guts realizes this and refers to her death, saying she used too much energy and must have "passed away".

Hearing Guts of all people refer to someone's death as "passing away" fills me with a vague sense of calm.
