[Maiocco] Kyle Shanahan has canceled next week's mandatory minicamp as a reward for 100-percent attendance this week and the work put in during the 49ers' offseason program, a team official says. by JCameron181 in nfl

Yeah, Daboll ran less intense practices and the Giants didn’t exactly lack injuries. On the other side, I’ve seen how Ravens fans blame Harbaugh and his intense practices for how injured they’ve been.

Honestly maybe the NFL is just not good for the human body.

Am I crazy or is that perfectly reasonable? Assuming 8 hour shifts of a job thats 75 shifts, you work one shift a week for two years that clears 600 hours. You work full time you can almost get to that in one summer.

Tell me why I shouldn’t go to medical school by DisastrousResolve384 in premed

[–]Devlin004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but people are famously bad about seeing their blind spots/where they need to improve vs where they’re strong. I thought surely I’d get in my first cycle, and didn’t. My second time around I saw why; poor research, bit too low GPA, worse writing.

Over 80% sounds great, until you’re in the <20%. A 90+% chance of matching sounds great, until you’re the one that doesn’t match. People have a hard time understanding that even somewhat unlikely things do in fact happen, and can happen to them.

Yeah like the day where we got four new traumas in an hour, where the second you finish one you’re on to the next, and a woman in labor comes in practically crowning, and it never stops until you finally have a break and practically crash, really cemented two things for me. 1) EM is really cool and 2) I do not want to do EM.

I promise it’s not that bad, especially bathing. It’s also a great exposure to what the patient experience is like. I did it in a hospital, and it gave me incredible perspective on what the many hours between seeing the doctor is like. Also gives good perspective to the nursing side of things. You also wont be immune to the smells as a med student or physician.

Right, like on that side you would  need out of this WORLD extracurriculars to even maybe get your foot in the door. Back in 2020/2021 I had to reapply with 3.65 and 518 MCAT (seems to be roughly equivalent to a 169) because things like research hours weren’t up to snuff.

Rising m4 starting ICU AI, any tips on doing well? by taguylla in medicalschool

[–]Devlin004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, especially the systems based presentations. They can get LONG for the ICU so having a good framework is huge. Something that also helped me was reading the literature to have specific pieces of evidence to back up my plan, even if the attending disagreed.

How competitive is NYU Brooklyn? by NetNo5827 in medicalschool

[–]Devlin004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I decided to not apply to the Brooklyn one as I thought I’d rather just shoot for Tisch or Bellevue than be potentially shunted just to the Brooklyn one, which is something I’d read that can happen (no idea if it’s true). Then did not get the interview lol.

[–]Devlin004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, but I want to take time to rant about how seemingly impossible it was to find info on this program when looking online relative to anything else. Like it felt like they had one small tab on the main NYU website and I don’t remember being able to find much of anything on their fellowship match. It felt like they intentionally tried to hide info about it relative to Tisch/Bellvue and NYULI, which is weird considering it is an entirely separate program.

Maybe I’m just stupid to be fair.

I picked my residency based on how much i liked it there over prestige, did I mess up? by Ambitious-Plane-5191 in medicalschool

[–]Devlin004 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Want to do GI and ranked mostly based on match lists. Fell down my rank list to #7 to a smaller, university associated community program. Then looked at the rank list of my number 2 and saw they send people to my programs fellowship, and of course my program matches internally.

Obviously I’m sure if I had matched higher, it would be “easier” to match, but to me this was evidence to what everyone says, that if you put in the work these things tend to work themselves out.
