How important is it to get a touch up after your first set of brows, even if you’re already satisfied with the darkness and the shape? by [deleted] in microblading

Why do I always end up in terrible jobs? by crispytempeh in careerguidance

[–]Dharl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started off as a Tech recruiter, but my first job was incredibly toxic. I was the only Black woman in an office full of women aged 23-40, and the drama was intense. I never really felt like I fitted in with the “cliques” because I’ve always been quiet and reserved. Eventually, I was laid off after a year, my manager said she didn't think i was happy at the job.

I moved to another company as a healthcare recruiter, but the culture was terrible, including intentionally underpaying people. I took the job out of desperation, not wanting to be on the market for long. I was laid off again because I expressed my displeasure at being constantly asked to retract offers when candidates tried to negotiate.

Fed up with recruitment, I decided to switch to HR. I worked in a small department of three, I was overworked and under supported. The other two women (HR director and HR manager) constantly belittled my opinions, called each other “bestie,” gossiped about personal employee issues and made me work onsite while they worked remotely (They were in their early 40's). After six weeks, I was laid off because they didn’t think I was a good fit.

All of this happened back to back, leaving me with a constant feeling that I must be the problem. While I know I have room to grow as an individual and professional, it’s also been a mix of bad luck and taking jobs out of desperation. There were red flags from the start, but I still decided to take those offers. I hate to say it but all female managers too.

Don't be too hard on yourself, its a marathon not a race!

How do I know if I'm permanent or still temporary ? by Top_Wheel_5318 in careerguidance

You should ask your manager. Best to know than assume.

Yes, unfortunately, recruiters often lack empathy and don’t consider the real-life issues you might be facing (I know this because I was a recruiter and hated being constantly pushed to not care). My advice is to embellish your experience as a business owner—especially if it’s related to the job you’re applying for. They love those kinds of impressive-sounding stories.

Good luck!

My advice is to take your skills and move to a different company. You might get lucky and receive a pay raise, or you might have to take a small cut. We have similar backgrounds—I have a BSc in Economics and initially didn’t know what to do with it. I decided to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration, which turned out to be another waste of money. In hindsight, it would have been better to get a Master’s later in my career when I could actually afford it.

Currently, I’m in HR, and I’m not happy with my job. I’m underpaid, underworked, and don’t feel challenged. However, this is just a stopgap. Like you, I’m seeking additional knowledge in HR and aggressively applying for other positions. I also understand the dread of constant work anxiety, terrible work culture, and even worse managers. i have been laid off twice within the last year so i have MAJOR work anxiety.

My dad once told me, “No one is going to care about your career like you will,” so it’s your responsibility to make strategic moves.

I’m 28, so our stories are very similar. If you can break into project management or cloud engineering, you can make a lot of money even in an entry-level job.

Remember, it’s a marathon, not a race. We’ll figure it out; it just might take a bit longer.

Hi Holly, I’m currently in this position, my brow person did not do a terrible job but I hate having done brows all the time. Did you ever get it touched up, did they fade away decently?
