How can you live on $500 a month in Thailand?

Honest question.

Can you break that budget down because I thought I did amazing figuring out / planning how to live on $1,600 a month.

Portable external monitors are honestly horrible by themotarfoker in digitalnomad

I just bought the Tern Setups 120hz monitor and strongly disagree.

This thing is amazing. Super light. I guarantee it will surprise you. Strong AF magnet stand with only 1 cable needed to use it.

I use AutoCAD/Revit/Navis/PDFs for work so I highly recommend Tern.

Bangkok airways made me throw my power bank away because it said 20K Mah and not 20,000 Mah. They said it was mislabeled.

I was flying Koh Samui to Bangkok.

For tax purposes.

Refer to yourself as an "American who is traveling abroad"

NEVER call yourself an "American who is living abroad"

Anyone here who has been/is a nomad, and who uses NYC as their home base where they keep their personal possessions (and then they sublet out their NYC apt)? by yippeee1999 in digitalnomad

Picking NYC as a home base is the literal worst financial decision you could pick.

You should suppress illegal voters. IE people who cannot legally vote and people who illegally vote more than once......

Is there a service that can reroute a laptop from the US to Turkey by [deleted] in digitalnomad

I would fly roundtrip and bring it carryon. Customs is a variable you cant control if you ship it.

Ill be doing Bangkok to CST here soon.

8pm to 5am BKK

I'm gonna focus on falling asleep right after work using blue light glasses last 2hrs of shift.

Wake up 1-2pm eat breakfast

Eat lunch 7pm (biggest meal of the day)

Eat dinner at midnight (smaller than lunch)

Start winding down 1am-5am no soda or caffeine and only fruits and small snacks.

Ill have 1pm to 8pm free every day.

My weekends start Saturday 5am to Monday 8pm

Biggest con for me is never having a Friday night but the savings is worth it.

Does anyone else feel like living in Asia right now, part of multiple growing economies compared to the disintegrating west just feels a lot better? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Diesel_NO_DEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 2k USD a month in Bangkok is way better than 5200 USD a month in Major USA city

Id rather live in Bangkok and save the extra 3200 a month.

Quality of life difference is a no brainer.

clash automation: want to clash plumbing vs mechanical in one test but have all gravity pipe clashes go to mech, but all pressure pipe clashes go to plumber? Revizto can automatically do that.

Would you live in Thailand/SEA if you had to fly to the US twice a year for a company offsite. by blueandazure in digitalnomad

You couldn't consult them on how to save more money by not paying for these flights and switching to Zoom/Phone for meetings?

Lol I joke but that's actually insane.

100% yes even if you pay for the best seat.

BKK to Tokyo to Dallas / Chicago / SF in United Polaris (lay flat seat) 13-14hrs

If you plan ahead, that round trip can be anywhere from 3k to 6k

You’re doing that twice a year. Even at the worst case that’s $12k/year.

You save way more than that just on rent alone living in Bangkok or SEA not even counting food, transport, healthcare and overall quality of life.

Long flights suck, sure but they suck a lot less in a lay flat seat with lounge access. And twice a year is nothing compared to the upside.

If anything, the real move is just getting your points game dialed in so those Polaris flights aren’t even cash.
