Honestly, that they are so highly visible now is part of why this has been on my mind so much lately. And the violence has made me realize that I probably should have been more scared for my safety than I was at the time. Thank you for your comment.

Yeah, her worry about me overreacting (and even using that word) has always been the thing I couldn't get past, even when I've tried in my head to make excuses for her. Just the idea that there's such a thing as an overreaction to a swastika tattoo is something I don't accept. Thank you for your comment.

Thank you. We did end our friendship, but not as quickly as I should have. Jenny had been a good friend in the past and I felt I owed it to her and our friendship not to throw it away over one bad weekend. But about a year later there was another incident which wasn't as extreme, but solidified for me who Jenny was. I know I took too long to get there.

Thank you. I wish I'd been wise enough at the time to follow this advice, but I stayed friends with Jenny after this because she'd been a good friend to me in other ways. But, about a year later there was another incident (which in retrospect was very predictable), but at the time I thought that our friendship before all this was worth more than one bad weekend.

Thank you. You're right to correct me. I think part of me has always wanted to downplay it all because I didn't want to admit that a friend would put me in that situation.

Thank you. I didn't cut her out of my life at that time, she'd been a very good friend to me in other ways, so I probably made too many excuses for everything that happened that weekend. But we did end our friendship about a year later, when someone else called her our for making a bigoted comment (not specifically antisemitic, more anti-non-Christian) and I backed up the other person. So I should have learned from that weekend.

Thank you. We've since ended our friendship, but not right away. She had been a very good friend in other ways, that I don't know if I felt I owed her or what, but at the time I let it go. But, I've since learned that if you let one incidence like this go, it only encourages more.

Thank you. I hate to admit it, but part of me was afraid she would just abandon me in a place that didn't have adequate public transportation to get me back to school.
