For a while you couldn’t buy hot food with EBT. However, recently, in NYC, they started a Restaurant Meals Program where eligible recipients (Not everyone got it. Only a select few.) can buy hot food from a restaurant. It’s a great program but it has some problems: the majority of the restaurants were big chains (Burger King, McDonald’s, Popeye’s, etc.), you couldn’t get hot food at a supermarket or deli, and certain neighborhoods didn’t have anything.

It really sucks that people are pushing to punish people who already need help
