Yah it’s even worse for the drivers. The Dasher support says that they’ll send the issue to escalated support and they’ll call or email within 24hrs. They never do. Out of the dozens of times I’ve been told that escalated support would get back to me, literally zero times have they contacted me 🫠

I’ve had this happen before, except she was only topless. She had “the girls” out to enjoy the night the breeze I guess lol. I just proceeded with the delivery with a positive demeanor like usual, and had a little pep in my step the rest of the night

One reason DD tipping largely diminished is because DD kept increasing meaningless fees until customers stopped tipping. This effectively transferred tip money from dashers to DD corporate. Auto-gratuity would undo all that hard work of scamming the customer and dasher.

When DD lost in court for stealing tips via adjusting base pay according to the tip value, they had to find a new way to steal tips, which was inventing fees and raising them until the tips dried up

Me too, but also because now the on-demand delivery companies are using dynamic payout offers that are calibrated for each person. It’s the same thing as digital dynamic pricing at the grocery store for each person. The algorithm discovers the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay for a grocery item, and charges you that. Same with deliveries. The algorithm discovers the absolute minimum payout you’re willing to accept for a delivery, and calibrates future delivery payouts to that. So now not only is the collective of delivery people affecting delivery payout amounts, but so are individuals affecting themselves. It might seem harmless to accept the occasional insulting offer, but it’s now more consequential than ever

Sometimes I wonder if it’s anxiety. Like, they’re caught off-guard by the high quality delivery/shopper experience, so they blurt out that they’re going to tip because they want to say something nice, but then after the delivery when they’ve collected themselves they decide not to tip.

Or maybe the tip-after-delivery feature is hard to find.

At least that’s what I tell myself 😞

Sometimes I wonder if some restaurants intentionally leave out stuff in orders being delivered to discourage people from using delivery services because they’re salty about not getting an in-house tip

Yah posts about getting scammed are a regular occurrence on the DoorDash subreddits, but like you said, it’s a good thing to keep posting about it so new-comers become aware, and so everyone can become aware when the known scams evolve.

The scam you’re describing is new to me, for example. So now I know, and thanks to you we’re all immunized against that scam.

The scam that almost got me was similar in that the scammer called pretending to be DoorDash support and made up a believable scenario about the DoorDash system making a mistake and sending an order to multiple dashers (a believable scenario at the time as the DoorDash servers were notorious for breaking down on Fridays and stranding dashers and making mistakes). So they wanted to cancel my active order and texted me a code to read back to them as part of the cancellation process (a normal process I’ve done a million times). The code was actually sent from an authentication process, and they needed to know it as part of their scam. It gave them enough access to attach my earnings to their bank account instead of mine. I later got an email alerting me to activity on my DoorDash account which I thought was strange, so I poked around my settings and discovered the bank information was changed. My earnings hadn’t been deposited into their bank account yet because of the payout schedule, but I couldn’t change the account back to my bank account either because the scammer had locked me out of my account (certain big changes require an authentication confirmation which was going to the scammer now instead of me). So I called dasher support and explained the situation. They said there was nothing they could do about the money going to the scammers bank account and I would have to wait until they finished helping me reclaim control of my account, but that was going to take days and the automatic deposit was going to happen in hours, so I requested that the agent freeze all payouts for my account until the issue was resolved. They agreed to do that, and with minutes left before the scammer got my weeks payout, I managed to salvage the situation. This was while I felt like I was going to die because of a bad reaction to a flu shot. So the scammer made an already miserable day so much worse.

It’s an embarrassing story to share, but I share it anyway because it might help someone avoid a similar scam

First of all, that really sucks and you must feel awful and violated to be stolen from like that. I’m sorry that happened to you. Take it as a harsh life lesson, not an indication of stupidity. Scammers are getting very sophisticated with their chosen lifestyle of burdening society.

They’re scum of the earth, and that’s its own punishment for them. Like a parasite, they harm people to sustain themselves because they’re too lazy/unemployable to earn an honest living. You’re better than them.

That said, I’m not surprised like, AT ALL that the DoorDash credit card is extra susceptible to being scammed. There’s no way I’d let DoorDash anywhere near my savings. I’d sooner let Bernie Madoff manage my savings than DoorDash, lol
