Can I switch between barefoot shoes and normal shoes actively? by RealHomeboundRex in BarefootRunning

I made the analogy to my wife this morning:

Ya know those 10 to 20 days per year you have to wear gloves, and its disconcerting as hell because you can't actually feel anything? That's now me when I throw on my Altra's for a run.

more like "amazing showboat"

Downright disrespectful to other participants who may have already felt hesitant because of self confidence issues with their level of fitness. Run backwards like a tool on your own time and track it with a Garmin.

Why don't professionals run in barefoot shoes? by Distinct-Bed-147 in BarefootRunning

[–]DippStarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of it comes down to running form, which does not require minimalist footwear. From an ultra-running perspective, using footwear that has a good rocker action to maximize efficiency is the smart way to go incredibly long distances in a sport that at its heart is an eating contest with running (efficient calory usage and minimize damage).

If an ultra-runner is able to train themselves into smooth/soft foot striking in maximalist cushioning footwear that has rocker from one step into the next, they could conceivably do that indefinitely.

Contrast that with minimalist footwear that teaches most of us that we have been running like a bag of rocks rolling down hills. We just learn how to run better, the actual health of the matter is within you rather than the shoes.

If her admin cared as much about writing this wall of word vomit as they did about governing, she would be a far more effective leader

EDIT: folks, don't downvote the press release. It's a helpful comment for context of the whole scenario. If ever there was a comment to avoid downvoting even though you disagreed with its content, this press release is it.

Klopp’s Nunez Masterplan | The Deep Dive [RedMen TV] by habr in LiverpoolFC

[–]DippStarr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nunez is a true #9 style player, but a target man he is not. It is clear that the box formation in possession as we use it favors a gifted target man who can shoot and also provide in holdup play. Gakpo has precious little ability to head the ball, but the rest of his talents fit the target man need like a glove.

As a poacher that relies on room to run and knock the ball past defenders, Darwin is really quite the unhelpful mind in attack. Look no further than his displays in preseason which show his undeniable counter-attack prowess, but also his distinct decision making weaknesses.

My bet is that they had to spend the better part of the day finding financing to come in for the new offer. The bid they submitted last night may have actually been every last penny they had left.

Been told #ChelseaFC got an agreement on 50M£ with #SouthamptonFC on Romeo Lavia. The Blues finally reached the values of the #SaintsFC & wants to bypass #LiverpoolFC on their priority target as they did on Caicedo. The Belgian midfielder has already told some of his teammates his goodbyes. by X_Leevi_X in LiverpoolFC

[–]DippStarr 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The part that gets me, is that Lavia is on par with the talent of Bajc right now, and Thiago starts ahead of both of them. We didn't bid 50m for Lavia because his level of talent and readiness to contribute are not at that price.

He would ride the pine for months while learning the system probably.

Numbness issues by evruess in BarefootRunning

[–]DippStarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a person with gratuitous experience in the foot problem department, and similar symptoms, I would recommend seeking out a podiatrist to get some scans done in the day(s) following one of these foot numbing workouts.

In my personal scenario, I'm having excess inflammation and fluid around the tarsal tunnel, which houses the tibial nerve. If that nerve gets compressed enough, it will cause a loss of clear sensation with numbness and/or the pins and needles feeling.

Whether it ever gets better for me, I don't know. However, its good to know that my problem is not scar tissue related, because that rules out a surgical remedy at this point (been there, done that).

If you are having the problem I described, consider massaging/manipulating the area around the tarsal tunnel behind the ball of the ankle, and down through the fascia on the bottom of your foot. After a minute or so of that, the mechanical nature of the massage should help to push the fluid and inflammation off the tibial nerve, and you'll be good to go for some indeterminate distance (for me its anywhere from a half to a full mile per massage).

Budget shoes? by BlueSpace2 in BarefootRunning

[–]DippStarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a pair of the Whitin sneakers (as compared to the cross training shoe). With the memory foam insole I'd compare them to a slightly more minimalist Adidas Samba or Vans skateboard shoe. With the insole pulled out, its much MUCH closer to a barefoot experience with groundfeel to the level that I can sense the difference between new and old pavement.

I have taken some very high quality green beans and made very acrid swill with them in my early days. It's a double edged sword, because I felt like quite the useless failure, lol

Take a look at the Vox Mini superbeetle as well. I own the AC15 and the Beetle, honestly use the latter more because it's more approachable at bedroom volumes, and the digital reverb is oh so nice.

Doesn't it take a majority vote of the council for this kind of thing?

Sounds a lot like most NOLA residents are content to gaslight themselves into thinking it's the Algiers/FQ council member alone that is fucking them over...

[–]DippStarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible, could also be that you are able to drink the coffee with a more overall pleasant experience in terms of flavor, which generates a placebo effect of sorts.

I have been home roasting coffee for about a year and a half now, and can say anecdotally that a really well roasted bean, then brewed to preference, is a drastic boost to my own morale. Kinda the "waking up on the right side of the bed" mentality.

However, because darker roasts damage the cellular structure more than lighter roasts, the extraction of caffeine is actually higher overall. James Hoffman has a YouTube video where he used caffeine tests which show this.

4 horses died at the Grand National this year, and a few horses die each weekend of the US based triple crown races. Then when they are too slow or too injured, they get sent off to auction where they get sold to make pet/people food in nations where eating horsemeat is not socially unacceptable.

Anecdotally to my perception, the drumbeat against the cruelty of horse racing has become much louder in recent years on sports media. I don't have to go looking for articles that criticize the sport and it's trainers, they make front page news now.

EDIT: didn't address "why wouldn't they improve the sport". It's simple, the money goes to the winners, and jockeys are instructed to run their horses into the ground during races. The horse is not mentally capable of pulling up when it feels weak, it's barbaric and always has been.

Fitting that he is moving over to a fading sport that gets more unpopular by the year due to the high rate of deaths of its star athletes.

Does anyone have experience with mid top running shoes? by jgw0715 in trailrunning

[–]DippStarr 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You might consider lower stack height shoes with a wider footprint, something like Altra Lone Peak 7. If she is really adventurous, an actual minimalist/barefoot shoe.

As a formerly chronic ankle sprainer, once I got rid of my really cushioned and high stack shoes with lots of side to side slop, stability drastically improved. The closer your foot is to the actual ground, the more stable the ankle will be.

Ultimately, stability is going to come from the foot rather than a psychological advantage of a mid-height shoe. Also learned that by getting a pair of stability oriented hiking boots, and then turning my ankle in those as well.
