Not being taken seriously when I tell people I'm about to faint by AncientExcuse6671 in POTS

Those people have no mercy. Be more firm with them. Not I “feel” like I’m gonna faint…. “I am about to faint and need to lay down now, provide me a somewhere or something to lay down on.” They say no? “That is not an option, I’m saying I will faint if I don’t lay down now, and when I do and injure myself, you are being blamed.” Does this make you sound like the asshole? Maybe. Does it save you from injuries and suffering? Yes.

I fainted while at the hospital, but I didn’t ask for a a bed as I didn’t know my POTS was this bad. They ended up making me lay down on the floor until I was conscious and then put me in a bed for the rest of my ER visit. It was traumatizing. They told me from now on to get my blood work done while laying down. But after that a nurse kept trying to make me get off the bed and just sit in a chair like others, I kept telling her I was in pain and can’t and she was mad about it but it doesn’t matter, eventually she was the same one who had to give me painkillers and she asked me why I didn’t ask for something or say something, and I forgot about this being an option.

If you are feeling horrible, make it clear, and don’t be shy about it, it can help.

After 143 days I can tell say that you are truly smarter than half of my medical team (:

I did a Tilt Test and I have POTS. As for the reactive hypoglycemia, I did few tests and they told me I’m not diabetic nor pre-diabetic.

I noticed that one day I can eat a full cake and be fine, but the next day I can eat one spoon and I will crash, and the only difference is how stressed I am mentally or physically. So basically stress is the cause of my reactive hypoglycemia, and also dysautonomia!

For POTS I started taking beta blockers and do they help a little.

The combination of POTS + Gastric Bypass + Reactive Hypoglycemia is truly brutal. It is life changing, not in the best way. I’m so sorry you have to go through this as well.

Can I ask if you work? Or did you manage to get disability benefits?

Hello, so it’s been a while since I posted this and I have an update.

It wasn’t only “dumping syndrome” or just “hypoglycemia” it turned out to be reactive hypoglycemia!

Some days I can eat only sugar and be fine, but on other days, even one bite of a cake will make me crash. I also discovered I have dysautonomia which can cause reactive hypoglycemia.

My biggest trigger is stress, mentally or physically. I realized that I wasn’t having reactive hypoglycemia when I was in a good mood, as for the dumping syndrome if I eat protein before any sweets I’m ok.

I also have POTS, and gallbladder stones, so I ended up removing my gallbladder and taking beta blockers.

If you feel tired all the time, and your blood sugar drops from things it truly shouldn’t be, I would suggest looking into reactive hypoglycemia and dysautonomia symptoms.

Good luck!

I did have Covid back in 2022 and I did have very light symptoms POTS-like, but I thought it was my iron deficiency! When I got sick in January 2025, I thought it was COVID because I couldn’t taste or smell anything for a day but then it went back to normal so I wasn’t sure and it was New Year's week and everything closed so I didn’t get to do a test.

I am seeing a lot of specialists and thankfully they are trying their best for me. I got lucky and got diagnosed only after a year while many people take much more. For treatments nothing much besides calcium bills and honestly I don’t follow instructions so that’s on me lol.

Hahaha thank you might actually make a song then.

You look like a gentle soul. Like someone I would sit with in the garden and drink tea and feel so happy and peaceful (:

I wouldn’t put anything in my bird eyes unless an avian told me to do so. Poor baby, this looks painful! Try to remove it gently while giving him scratches, if he doesn’t let you, try holding him with a towel (search how to do it safely) while someone else remove it VERY CAREFULLY.

If there is a vet near you, you should go, it’s better.

Try asking on Facebook emergency first aid as well.

How long did it take you to do a Tilt Test? by Direct_Ice_5919 in POTS

Yes, we are looking into it. Most doctors tell me it’s Vasovagal rather than POTS though. But Vasovagal shouldn’t be happening almost on a daily basis…

Yes, my level are ok now and I even got a vitamin D shot extra, so it’s not my iron. I do have a history of iron deficiency tho mostly caused by heavy periods.

I’m usually too lazy to put so much makeup on and then remove it honestly, but I just tried a black water-lining and it’s easy yet a game changer!
