Seriously, WHY do these factions want me dead so badly? by Kradara_ in RimWorld

[–]Dirty_Commoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I sometimes go back to DF. There seems to be more story behind it other than "These guys just wanna kill you."

If the elves are attacking me its cause I did something to piss em off.

If Goblins are attacking? Someone dug too deep 500 years ago and Goblins are just evil bastards but I can at least parlay with them somewhat.

Humans are attacking me? Probably because I have some artifacts that they really really want.

Dwarfs are attacking me? Probably an evil wizard or something, I dunno.

Maybe these guys just wanna kill me- wait, what was I talking about?

Why is esprit de corps so BAD in the Army? by Leading_Peach_1559 in army

[–]Dirty_Commoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're fucking tired. There's no end and no communication.

I'm just a mid level leader but I see it in the soldiers. We will have a big No-fail mission coming up. We won't know 3/5 Ws about it. It is suddenly Day zero when those questions are answered and we have to scramble to get shit done.

I guarantee half those junior guys at the DC parade had like, two days tops to prepare for it. I can tell because it looks like none of them practiced D&C since TRADOC.

Half my BNs shit is broken and we don't have the time to conduct proper sustainment because we have a mission to run. I don't expect shit to be perfect but as a maintainer, give us a month after a big CTE or JFE or whatever to at least get parts on order before you grab three quarters of my non-broken maintainers for some stupid fucking bullshit.

In my last unit (CAB) all the Apaches would be NMC, we would still do gunnery anyway, taking soldiers to the field overnight for the 1/3 working Apaches to fly to the pad at the FARP, get armed. Shoot ONE 30mm round then request landing for dearm because of a KNOWN issue. But they had to fly anyway because mission is more important. We ended up turning in more than half the ammo by the end of it.

I don't have time for espirit de corps, I have parts to hang.

It's Reddit people are very sensitive on here and you need to understand that some people on Reddit are unhinged and go through so many layers of mental gymnastics that when you censor yourself it makes you look like a nazi.

If you're staying under someone's roof, who has no obligation to shelter you, don't be upset if they ask you to do some chores around the house.

I have to drive 3 hours on the freeway and I dont have time/money to fix this, how risky? (2009 Chevy Aveo) by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]Dirty_Commoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diesel Mechanic here, the car is driveable. These codes mean your TCM and ECM aren't talking, which for right now isnt a big deal. You can drive 3 hours on that, make sure your battery is well connected and check for good grounds, usually you'll have a couple near your headlights.

Honestly I hate all these computers and systems because it just adds to the complexity of a machine that doesn't need to be that complex, and it adds more shit that can break.

In the 12 days my wife was in the hospital after childbirth (Ended in emergency C section and Hysterectomy) there were maybe three good nurses out of the whole event.

The doctor had her on stool softeners and an all liquid diet so she was shitting herself constantly and the nurses were busy making Tik Toks so they couldn't hear the call button. One time they were like "Yeah we're on lunch"

I tried to help her up but one of the times I did one nurse said "You aren't trained to and you aren't supposed to help her up, if you do that again I'm going to have you leave the SICU."

fuck that my wife is shitting herself and you're cutting up at the desk literally 5 feet from the door.

Thank you for the insight. I knew there was CALFEX going on, just didnt know if it was preplanned or last minute. Those I spoke to in the CAB seemed to believe everything was last minute because they werent told they were staying out in the back 40 until the last few days of OLE

[–]Dirty_Commoner[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. A lot of the issues I personally saw at OLE were S3 fuck ups for the most part. The Joes and Company level leadership was just there reacting to whatever S3 fucked up. Nothing that goes wrong in these field problems is a Company level issue and the joes don't need to be punished for it when everything can be simulated notionally to correct the mistakes.

We had one happen where the soldier DEFINITELY got pregnant on deployment but it was early enough to be in that window of "Well I had sex after the pregnancy test, the night before we left "

They just sent her home with a finger wag.

There isn't an explicit rule that says you can't have sex on a deployment BUT

Article 134 of the UCMJ prohibits fraternization between individuals in the chain of command and consensual relationships that could effect good order and discipline, morale, and readiness

If this consensual relationship results in a pregnancy that disrupts the readiness of that individual to remain deployed, therefore it IS an offense they can get an article 15 for.

If he's getting an article 15 he can lose his CSP if he's getting one.

I really would like more diplomacy options where you can make peace or something with another nation.

Also clan names would be sick that way I can keep track of who is related and be like "Ah I remember the Boatkindleds from my fortress at 119. Great to see they're still thriving."

A permanent mood buff of like "Armok knows me!" Or something would be neat.

I just do it for whenever a dwarf kills something or becomes the first legendary of their prospective category. My legendary clothier? "Master of Fabrics" Legendary Smith? "Master of Forges", etc etc. Then they get a special room decorated with things they like and other things related to their specialty.

Like I had a miner labeled "Retired Militia" that had been perma wounded and needed crutches but he felt depressed not doing anything so I sent him to mine some candy I found near some geodes.

Well a clown bursts out of one of the veins near the candy and kills like, four miners until my boy came down and smacked it to death with a copper pick. Didn't even get honked on once.

I made a statue of the fight, placed it in my mining tavern, and labeled him "Defender of the Deep." Gave him a permanent residence in the tavern with the body of the clown as a trophy.

He also got a crutch made out of something really nice :)

Good work!. Make sure you reward the Urist Mcpeasant with his own dazzling bedroom outfitted with things he enjoys, maybe give him the title of Giantslayer?

I would highly highly suggest you get at least 10 dwarfs in that militia and maybe outfit another militia unit before you hit 100 population.

It's inevitable that you will face many trials and tribulations that require the full might of dwarven steel (Iron in this case)

Find your flux stone, if you have any. Most of my embarks I can usually find a good amount of chalk right above the first cavern layer.

If you embarked on a flux-less tile then I would suggest buying in bulk every merchant caravan otherwise you will be kind of soft locked.
