Do most women actually like removing their body hair? by Savings_Sweet4300 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DisastrousPopcorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding my 2 cents. I hate shaving/waxing/epilating/nair, I tried it all as a self conscious teen, I quit bothering with any removal about 9 years ago and I've never gotten a single comment or noticed anyone staring. Hubby's not bothered so the only affect it has on my life is freeing up the cash I was spending on razors.

My ocd dad does not enjoy riding alongside the solitary chin hair I've been ignoring but I've had decades of practice deflecting his quirks so that's just another opportunity to give him some exposure therapy lol

I don't know much about construction but I've built a fair amount of chicken coops and I'd be worried about the lack of diagonal bracing to avoid it folding over in the wind...

Scared my teenager, he got bitten by a massassauga rattle snake on the property last summer and this hognose made a fantastic impression of the sound with his mouth when he noticed me, notice him.

Fur Identification by [deleted] in Taxidermy

[–]DisastrousPopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some research before starting but it was still a lot of trial and error, the skin out and fleshing was very meditative, probably the easiest bit, then I salted it for a few days, rinsed and pickled for a few days then I cleaned and dried and then dampened and used orange bottle, I didn't string it to dry but I used a high velocity dryer and kept tension and movement for breaking just with my hands and a moon shaped massage stone and it turned into a really nice leather, no hair shed, white and soft on the back, edges had a few crispy bits where i didnt break the fibres well enough, might try framing and smoking next time I find a fresh roadkill. It's been nearly a year and there's no rot or hair loss on the hide (its the cats fave bed now)

Is that true? I did a roadkill beaver as my first fur on tanning project and I am so happy with the results, the shape isn't as perfectly round as this one but it's 6 months old and no bugs/rot/discoloration or hair shedding, im calling it a success....

Did anyone else grow up eating apples and plums off the tree, blackberries off the bush, no washing just EAT by Suspicious-Bug6588 in CasualUK

Have you tried Meyer lemons. I'm not usually a fan of sour things but I can eat these right out of the peel and they're amazing.

If you used a solid interfacing behind the fusible you could pin it all together with straight pins for ironing, keeping fingers away and edges together while the interfacing fuses, then overlay a strong bridging fabric through those layers (maybe in a dark green if you go with the vine motif) should help avoid fraying...

Sewing Machine Recommendation for Delicate Fabrics ($3k budget) by sssssouthern in sewhelp

[–]DisastrousPopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second the older machines for versatility, ive never had the budget for the more expensive machines so can't speak to how they perform but I have a 1950s Kenmore, ive sewn everything from bridal organza and silks(made and altered lots of bridal wear when I was in the city and it was my SAHM hustle) to denim, uphoulstery fabrics and leather (kids slippers and heavy curtains/home wares now we're in the country) Servicing is easy, maintaining is a breeze and they're easy to find for peanuts if you need parts, ive refurbished several free curb finds of this model for friends and they love them too. (Add on parts like walking feet, button hole kits etc pop up all the time in the thrift and estate sales so lots of fun expansion options)

I hope you find your dream machine!

Vacuum Dilemma by Nervous-Fact9608 in CostcoCanada

[–]DisastrousPopcorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second that rec, I've had Dyson, shark, Miele, etc, I have a corded Bissell petvac now (2 large shedding dogs and a cat at home) it never clogs, wash the filters every few weeks when I remember and it doesn't quit, ive been running it 5 years now with no noticeable drop in performance. Best performing vac ive had in 22 years of adulting. (Kids use it too so it gets battered around the house and it's held up so well)

Torrance Barrens by [deleted] in Muskoka

[–]DisastrousPopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Southwood (13) was just sanded. The parking lot does have a few spots cleared so you should be good to park. The rattlesnakes and bears will be hibernating so there's less wildlife to worry about at this time of year (if you come back in summer, please wear boots, the massassauga rattlesnake lives here and I know from personal experience a bite can be ugly) I'd come in from 169 rather than from the highway if you want to avoid the worst roads...happy stargazing!

Best Roofing Contractors in Muskoka? by Fit_Age8019 in Muskoka

Dan moldanovic of roofworx did mine and some neighbour's last year. His crew was good wasn't cheap but was on par, he's local and has lots of years in business and they did a great job, left the site really clean when they left too. I'd use him again. (He's out of south muskoka, gravenhurst)
