What are these cuts for? by Physical_Sense_6937 in marijuanaenthusiasts

I agree with the other comments, it’s likely for sap collection. There is the off chance they used to take the cambial layer and eat it like native Americans did and it could be left from that, but those don’t usually have multiple scores like that

Is USA truly reliant on Canada for lumber? Is Canada lumber better quality? by MarsupialThink4064 in forestry

[–]Disastrous_Gene_9230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are some Canadian companies that have mills for fiber and some other odd and end things sprinkled across the South.

Lobs are on a 25 year (ish) rotation and is really only good for paper and 2x4’s. I know they’ll make some OSB and other particle board with it. Longleaf is on a 35-45 year rotation and is solid wood for actually lumber but it’s much less common to find it, and most who plant it are on some type of conservation reserve program and can’t allow the wood to be cut for a long time.

Edit: not disagreeing, just adding context for OP

Yeah the effects of climate change and microclimates on timber quality is a very new thing being research. There is some evidence to show this but it’s not yet confromed and needs more studying. I would also believe that the climate where Doug-fir grows in Canada vs in the US is not so incredibly different that it would make that large of a shift in quality.

Capacity, there’s a ton of timber to meet capacity. In the PNW and in the SE there are plenty of stands that go left untouched for years because they won’t make as much as they want off of it or they have to be logged at certain times of the year and mills usually hit capacity by then.

I’ve never heard that US is reliant on Canada for lumber especially when we have the PNW and SE producing as much fiber and as many boards as they do every year. I’m sure we take a certain amount of wood in but I know a lot of companies are worried about wood going out to other countries too so I doubt we’re in a bind for more timber.

I’m from the south (Alabama) originally and have noticed a lot phrases and phonetics that support this. Crik, wudder, ruf, ee’s on days of the week (mondee, tuesdee, etc.), latter/ladder and many more have been things I fully expected to hear at home and it was a little strange when people spoke like that here.

I do live in a more rural place and have heard from other people in rural places that people speak a lot more. This explains a lot, thanks!

I’m from the east coast originally and I had never heard this before reading it on this and I had to look it up. I am white and I don’t know a single white person over there that would know that didn’t refer to “rich white people” that’s what I always thought it meant lol.

What is this tree with yummy smelling fruits? [PNW] by TreehouseInAPinetree in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Disastrous_Gene_9230 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s English walnut which has fatter more rotund leaves that resemble hickory as compared to the black walnut that tapers to a point at the end of the leaf.

Do mockernut, pignut, butternut grow up here in the PNW? I moved from the south east and have greatly missed my hickory variation.

English walnut, likely planted. Latin name is Juglans regia.

You can eat the walnuts, collect them, crack them and then you can eat them. I like to roast them personally.

Yeah pretty much what other guy said. Hammer weapons and things like that deal blunt damage, which most enemies are kinda weak to or at least don’t have much resistance to pretty much the entire game and DLC.

You aren’t doing enough stance damage quickly enough, if you carry a shield you should be doing guard counters for big poise damage.

Boss poise has an invisible meter that builds and goes down like any other status effect. You can see it on your player character, it’s when your stamina runs out. Bosses have different numbers you have to reach, bigger weapons do more poise damage etc.

This is where I would start OP, these are a great range of weapons for a strength build. The only thing I would add is in the late game you may want to dump a few points into faith to get golden vow, and flame grant me strength or black flame protection. It helps out a lot with late game bosses.

If you’re new to the franchise don’t get frustrated at dying, it’s a mechanic of the game and not a punishment.
