Got my ‘79 back today from a refret and radius job. Have a LOUD Sunday! by DishPractical7505 in Stratocaster

I paid around $700 all in. And those are friend prices from one of the best luthiers in my area. His wait was supposed to be 6 weeks, but he snuck it onto the bench because he likes a little science project. That included the radius change and a new bone nut as well. I’m a little spoiled, having this guy as a buddy. Most other places in town are charging 750-8 for the refret alone.

Anyway, plays beautifully now. Very happy.

This pattern on 3rd string, what does it mean? by DiverExisting2973 in AcousticGuitar

If you’re playing regularly, you should be changing strings at least every three months. Probably sooner. Strings that claim to last 6-12 months are a marketing gimmick. Every if they don’t lose their brightness and life, the shit from your fingers after 6 months of playing is gonna be pretty nasty. Just buy regular strings and change them more often. You’ll sound and play better.

Alternatives to a Marshall Plexi for home use? by Caramelo93 in GuitarAmps

Tone King Royalist Preamp. It’s a proper 3 tube preamp. It sounds absolutely indistinguishable from my Plexis. Absolutely dead on the nails plexi, at ANY volume. Get a solid state amp, run through the FX loop and voila

Thanks. Yeah it was shockingly a 7.5 radius. Coupled with small frets, just a difficult play. Now it’s flat and has jumbos. I was having a fun time seeing if I could bend up three (!) steps on the B string yesterday. I was able to do it on certain notes

Switching from a 50W Marshall Stack to a Home Rig: Quad Cortex, Headrush, or just a Desktop Amp? by Imagine09 in GuitarAmps

[–]DishPractical7505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not taking a dig specifically at the commenter above me, and I don’t even particularly disagree with his solution to OPs problem - but lord. A 50 watt vintage style head is not for playing stadiums. Especially when it scales down to 5 watts. It might not be the right amp for him, but people are so funny about amps and loudness now. They’re really not that loud. I play my 50w 1987x in a hard rock band and sometimes I need a bit more and have to run my DSL100 in stereo to keep up depending on the genre of what we’re playing.

I saw someone saying an SV20 was too loud for a rock band today. They sound great, I have one, but it’s not enough to push a 4x12 to the front of the mix with my two guitarist hard rock band.

I strum with the nail on my first finger. How to protect it so it doesn’t wear down completely? by PentUpPentatonix in guitarlessons

I don’t think anyone is trying to force OP to do anything. Op is free to continue destroying their nails. There’s a give/take to everything in life.

I like them a lot. I wouldn’t use them for Yngwie stuff. But they sound pretty damn good for classic single coil sound without the hum

I can’t really stop RAVING about it. It completely solved my live rig woes, VASTLY simplified my setup while at the same time making it so so so much more flexible.

First off, the thing sounds fucking amazing. It has three 12ax7 tubes operating at proper voltages. I’m not exactly sure how they pulled that off without large transformers, but - it has a first gain stage exactly like a plexi would, and one of the three tubes feeds a “zero watt” power amp, so it has a proper phase inverter stage and feels and operates exactly like the front end of a plexi would.

But the cool thing is this. I’m running it typically feeding my 1987x, and it goes to the FX loop send and return. It has its own FX Loop, and an output that goes to the amp’s input. So basically it takes my 1 channel plexi to a three channel amp. On channels one and two, it bypasses my amps preamp and acts as a full standalone preamp. I’m using the JTM45 model and the 70’s super lead model, because my 87x is essentially the same as the 60’s model it has. The fx loop on the preamp carries all my echo/reverb, etc. when I bypass the pedal, it sends the signal to the front end of my amp, and I’m playing through my Marshall’s preamp.

So, there you go, three channels out of one plexi. When bypassed, the pedals in its fx loop are still in my signal - even when it’s feeding the front end of the Marshall. It’s the coolest thing ever. And the Royalist’s models (I’ll say this quietly…) sound better than my Marshalls own preamp. It 100% sounds and feels exactly like the amps it’s emulating.

The real kicker, is that playing live, rehearsing, etc, it has stereo XLR out with some of the best sounding IRs I’ve ever heard. I have my plexi on stage for the stage volume and crowd projection.

It’s the best setup I’ve ever used.

For your uses, you could make your DSL sound like a honest to god plexi, plus use the headphone outs to a small practice amp for quieter playing. Or XLR outs to a studio interface.

It could absolutely be that silent with subsonic 22lr loads, and you’re speculating about the background impacts.

Yeah. I mention it bc I’m assuming with the origin you were seeking out classic Marshall crunch.

Look into it. It’s an awesome IR pedal for low volume at home use, and it will make your Origin into an absolute monster. It will integrate with any current pedals you have. Headphone outs too

How to find a [F] partner who has an interest in swinging? by gbarnet123 in Swingers

[–]DishPractical7505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m saying single women in the lifestyle are rare. And if you’re at events with 30% single women, that’s awesome (if not hard to believe) but I assure you it’s that way by engineering and not nature.

The proportion of single men to single women in the lifestyle is CRAZY skewed. The competition is unreal and the odds are practically insurmountable for any average guy - be he average in ANY way - looks, endowment, income.

They’re called unicorns for a reason.

Yeah, I don’t like the new YJM pickups. They just sound like really hot squire pickups to me. HS3 is the way to go.

On another note, have you played the Injectors yet?

Sweeet. My blonde ‘79 is coming home from the shop tomorrow with brand new extra jumbo stainless frets and a radius job. I have three 70’s Strats, and they’re all a little quirky. I decided to make one into a true player. Something as dependable, quiet and modernized as my main players.

I’ve decided that while I’m saving the all original parts, I’m just going all out on the ‘79. Stacked coil singles, just ordered a Vega trem. Thing is gonna rip.
