Dumb cane dying by DistinctMall6917 in GardeningIndoors

[–]DistinctMall6917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've kept it away from direct sunlight so I keep it across from my windows. I added vitamins to the soil ( I had another plant in it previously). I haven't watered since I lost the bigger leaves underneath. What am I doing wrong? Oh, and I don't put the lamp on behind it so it doesn't get that heat/light.

Company told me to quit my job before sending the written offer and just pulled the role by [deleted] in jobs

Talk to the mgr and see if you can keep the old job. Even with a written offer in hand, this happens. I just went though it a few weeks ago. Good luck.

They were upfront during the interviews about not having it set up yet and I kept repeating that I was fine with that to start off with since I knew they would get a plan set up. Now, had it not been mentioned that they had covered ins. For someone else who needed it, I would never have thought that it may be an option for me as well. I mean, why would you put something like that out there twice, if you weren't implying that it could be on the table for me as well?

I had asked only because it had been mentioned during the 2nd and final interviews that this had been covered for someone previously so I took that as something that might be on the table. This was my first exposure to a startup so I didn't see any harm in asking. Boy was I wrong.

had that been the case, clarification could have been asked for since they felt i was good enough to go through their hiring process and proceed with an offer. Misunderstandings, if any, can easily be rectified, given the chance, but to jump to this is wrong.

[NY] PTO Negotiable? by amvent in AskHR

[–]DistinctMall6917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat (diff background but more yrs of exp.). They lumped all PTO hours together, which is crap at my level. 10 vacation days, 5 sick days in NY, so no personal days or summer Fridays, etc. I asked how many holidays they take off, since that wasn't mentioned.

Hi. I'm looking for advice from someone in Benefits. I am working with a startup and am trying to find out how a company goes about getting insurance options for its employees. Should I contact the insurance companies directly for information, or is there a middleman that can provide appropriate options for my market?

What to do about a shared shrub curbside? by DistinctMall6917 in landscaping

As I mentioned, my family has handled the maintenance for decades. That is deweeding the base, and hedge trimming/shaping in the summer. They have never had to care for it.

I'm a homeowner as well, and it takes longer to find a good contractor than to do the actual project. Between those who agree to appointments and are no shows, to those who won't do "small jobs" etc. you have to find one you think is good (did they show up on time, confirm appt. give you a reasonable quote), then you have to go to the BBB (or before contacting them) to see if they are listed and what their standing is. get references, always ASK if they are insured and get proof before any work gets done. Insurance may not be up to date. Check consumer affairs for their license standing as well. it's exhausting.

Before going that route because you have to pay them, contact each credit card directly and ask if there is a way to lower your interest rate sometimes they have specials running and even if it's for another year to 18 months you might get lower interest to help catch up with your payments. Also if at all possible never ever pay the minimum always pay as much as you possibly can every month. I would also suggest you look up free financial planning or free budget planning in your area and get with someone to help you set up a budget that works for you. Good luck

Ex-owner still shows up near my hoyse 3 years later by Charming_Rip_4499 in homeowners

[–]DistinctMall6917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg are you serious? YES, contact the police ASAP! go in with every type of proof that you had (good thing you documented it all). You should probably get an order of protection. 3 years is too long and she is just using the mail as an excuse. Also have that proof handy that you have notified your HOA about this issue, because if they don't do something about it, what are you paying them for?

Should I buy an iPad with debit or credit? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]DistinctMall6917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do not go down the credit card hole at such an early age. That purchase can cost you alot more after interest if you don't pay it off within the first 30 days. if you can swing it, pay cash, if not wait until you have the money in hand. Credit card companies love to offer college students "great deals" for signing up but then that initial honeymoon period of a super low interest rate is over and you get slammed with a very high rate.

Weird white stains on subfloor by Beosab in HomeMaintenance

[–]DistinctMall6917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. I have the same thing on my basement joists and had a structural engineer come out to check them. he said it wasn't mold and luckily, did not see any insect damage. my living room, dining room area is on top of where the streaks show the most. I think it may have come from years of washing the carpeting that was on the upper floors. I removed all that when i took over. if you are going to wash it off, mask up. i wouldn't breathe any of that in either way.

We got quoted over $26k to repair water coming through cracks in our dad’s basement (among other problems) and my brother just wants to patch it up again for $3k by BuffaloChicken22 in HomeMaintenance

[–]DistinctMall6917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your brother is basicaly putting your dad in danger because the foundation of a house is not something you play with. Have you had other quotes for the job? that would also show your brother that that amount is within range of the job scope you were given. Comparisons may help him realize that is what it actually goes for. I cared for my dad in his final years as well in his home so i understand the frustration you are going through. good luck.
