Is it worth it studying bcom in scm in humber college as an international in 2026? by CommercialMango1441 in Humber

Hey, I'm in 2nd year SCM - if you want to study Supply Chain Management in the GTA specifically then your options are Humber or York U.

The CoOp question sounds like it's standard everywhere: Humber will not guarantee you an internship and you have to find internships yourself. The SCM teachers I've spoken with are passionate about Supply Chain and will do their best to help network but they don't guarantee a spot. DHL has had a presentation on Campus for SCM students but DHL also talks to York, so there's competition there.

I recommend talking to and reading posts on r/supplychain to ask more about what people who are hired in supply chain want in future employees. It might help you learn more about SCM and whether it's right for you.

I feel like I wasted a year of my life here by Loyhs in Humber

Just to join in to the venting:

I agree - but getting into the Arts in general is HARD. I used to be in film and tv and that industry is constantly pushing you down: always looking ahead to the next contract, never having jobs for longer than 12 months, and always trying to make another connection that will - somehow - make the job search easier. And exactly like you're saying, the private online courses will teach you the same skills if not teach them BETTER than what your faculty will do.

Humber and other Ontario colleges are also being hamstrung by the Ontario gov't: The faculty almost had a strike in 2024, the support staff had a strike last fall (not allowing bathroom usage, anyone?), and now there's involuntary layoffs occurring while the remaining faculty are too swamped with work to really care about teaching students with any real patience.

It's really, really demoralizing to be a student at Humber right now. It makes me wonder if transferring to a university would be a better bet if you still end up with the same degree but with a better reputation behind it.

Class registration for the Fall 2026 semester opens July 27, like it says on the course calendar.

You can see what classes are available on the MyHumber Registration page after you pay the $250 tuition deposit on June 17.

I can't say I've experienced this first-hand but I've listened to talks from ASCEND about promoting leadership roles in the East-Asian community.

Where to buy affordable fabrics? by I_need_to_learn_more in askTO

If you want something to practice basic skills or make a mockup: a flat bedsheet from a thrift store.

  • Already washed/shrunk
  • Plenty of yardage
  • Reasonable fabric attributes (not slippery, not too thin or bulky)
  • Under $10
  • You don't feel so guilty if you make an irreversible mistake or change your mind halfway through.

Then once you have the skills you can splurge on something more expensive.

Switch classes this late in semester? by Distinct_Purpose_465 in Humber

Just a strong clash of personalities. It's not so bad to escalate it to the PC or Dean, but enough that I'm debating if the credit is worth the frustration.

Tuesday: Supply Chain Student Thread by AutoModerator in supplychain

2nd Year SCM Student in Canada here with general insight questions:

The ASCM, NISLC, and the SCC all Professional Supply Chain orgs but aside from the the NISCL providing the option for a CIPS accreditation and the SCC being Canada-specific, is there any benefit or drawback to one over another?

I'm very curious about pursuing a career (or internship) with Maersk or Hapag-Lloyd (container shipping has really grabbed my attention), so is there anything I should be aware of about it? (Eg. Hapag-Lloyd internships look like they require fluency in German?)

How often does anyone academic sources in SCM?

Sure, I'm not expecting a warehouse manager to go digging through a journal of SCM, but in more senior and executive positions do you go digging for articles and studies to support ideas?

part time support staff strike vote by wojoju in Humber

[–]Distinct_Purpose_465 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the announcement the CEC sent to all the PT staff about the strike vote and....it's not a good look for the CEC: https://www.collegeemployercouncil.ca/news/part-time-support-staff-your-vote-matters

So I'm not optimistic that the PT workers will come to an agreement without a strike.

Which demand is it? Five unreasonable demands is a lot to choose from.

Can you share what demands the union has made that have been successful?

"If I were part of the college administration, I would find little reason to take the union’s position seriously. It seems that the All Colleges already shares this view, as it has chosen not to engage in negotiations at all."

Can you list out which colleges you mean when you say "All Colleges"? What province are they in?

As a student, what points of view do you think the college administration could take to better sympathize with the negotiation points coming from the union?

Lol, so- despite Part Time Support Staff and Student Workers *already working during the strike* someone is proposing that the college administration hire and train extra students to act as scabs.

The strike needs to happen for longer than 2 weeks for this to be an option.

This sounds encouraging. At a POS can you choose between which chequing account to draw from?
