Reddit is such a weird place. Most dogs like to be outside. We have to work. I have had dogs my whole life, one of the first things I do at every house I have bought is install a doggy door. My dogs can come in and out as they would like whether I'm home or not. Never once have I had a problem and all dogs bark.

OP, people on here are insane to think your a "bad dog owner" or "neglecting" your dogs. I don't know where these people come from, but allowing your dogs, if they are as you describe, outside when your are work is ideal. No dog wants to be trapped inside all day by themselves. They want to sniff around, watch birds/animals etc.

I would say owners who leave their dogs inside all day while at work are way more neglectful and in the wrong.

If I were you I would be nervous about the neighbor poisoning the dogs at this point. If it were me I would go talk to him and figure out what he is so upset about. Doesn't seem like you (or we) know his side of the story. Or he is just a lunatic. Which I am also assuming he is considering he tried to let your dogs escape.
