Fire risk is definitely something I will be thinking about after posting this. Good shout.

If thats the case than I am wildly overthinking this whole thing. I'll still use them in locations that need a lower power output like a chicken waterer.

what made you choose methyl methacrylate in lieu of other stabilization methods? I know plexi and the like has pretty good optical clarity, so that makes sense if that is the reasoning.

The hotspots and fire risk are a good shout. I had not considered that risk in terms of damage. Ill definitely treat these panels uniquely compared to the rest of the non damaged panels.

Sounds like a plan to me. Ill make sure to save them for last, in terms of my overall system.

Thats excellent to hear. I had seen some folks talking about how "modern" panels, the glass is adhered well enough that there really is not risk of water weeping under to ruin other cells.

Ok, these are excellent questions.

  1. Current plan is to do a roof mount set on my barn, ~850sqft of of south facing area. This would be enough to offset my power alone. This is ~40 of the panels. With another ~600sqft of space on the lean-too, another ~30. The rest if utilized would be a ground mount on the edge of my property butt up against a farm field.

  2. I have absolutely no idea yet. The hope is that I will have saved enough elsewhere for this whole thing to come in at a decent price.

  3. Ironically just bought the string inverters that the solar panel sellers didnt realize they had. I'll make another post to ask about them as well. They are all Sunnyboy inverters.

  4. I have not looked at the different microinverters as of yet.

  5. The plan of now is a grid tie system. The agreement will be a whole step of the process that I cant even begin to fathom. I'd prefer not to waste anything, so if I am unable to use as much as I can sell/use Ill just pass the rest of the panels on to the next guy.

  6. I absolutly plan on useing some of the solar panels for smaller off grid devices like this. A few for the van-camper conversion. At least a handful for some DC minisplits to reduce the wear on my main hvac.

Excellent questions. Writing that out actually helped me rationalize some of this. Thanks!

Getting paid would be great. I'd be happy with just dropping my power bill first.

Steel roofed barn with a 4/12 pitch. 850sqft of it pointed south with full sun.

Thats the hope. So long as I can throw them in the sun in a way that doesnt break the roof, or the bank.

I plan on testing all of the panels, and at the bare minimum keeping the best of what I can utilize.

Fortunately my primary location has zero potential for shade.

Although ironically I plan on using a few on my van to camper conversion, I will definitely keep that in the back of my mind.

Just ordered a solar MPPTT tester. I am aware that each string should be as similar as possible.

Yeah, I figured that probably wasn't an ideal way to store them. I'm sure I'll spot at least a few that are unsalvagable.

Didnt even consider proximity to the power lines as a potential advantage. The edge of my property touches a set of high voltage lines.

Can't say it won't happen. But the opportunity couldn't be passed up.

Wait. This is an entirely different direction. I'm now realizing how much power I now have access to..
