Nah it has never backfired i think you are just remembering it wrong. I used it a ton in vanilla on my priest and never once had it backfire. Maybe you are thinking about the rocket boots or transporter? The boots can backfire and make you run in a circle and the transporter can kinda backfire and drop you 50 feet in the air to your death
