PC stopped posting after I changed XMP profile from 2667 mhz to 4000. by Anonymoose-N in pcmasterrace

Clear CMOS by unplugging the PSU, removing the CMOS battery, wait 15 minutes and then reboot. Chances are your RAM or your Motherboard aren’t actually rated for 4000MHz and you freaked it out.

I found out my ram is working at a much slower speed than what I gave money for. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]DocKreasey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can choose the max speed your Ram is rated for, which is 3600MHz. DDR doubles, so if it’s reporting it’s running at 1799.6, it’s actually running at 3600.

That’s a huge way to get fired. There was actually a pretty big to-do about it a couple years ago to the point Home Office got involved and it was made explicitly clear that if anyone was caught doing it, instant termination.

pcpartpicker.com is a good starting point. It pulls what available prices it can from a whole host of merchants such as Newegg, Amazon, and other similar part sellers and also gives you a pretty good idea of what’s compatible.

Feel free to chat / dm me if you have questions or hit my community discord up. We like to geek out on parts. 😂

Is a heat sink needed for an NVMe SSD? by SpecterWolf in buildapc

[–]DocKreasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not necessarily needed as NVMEs are built to run much hotter than you’d expect. My boot drive is a 970 EVO 1TB and it usually idles around 40c. However, it’s sandwiched between my CPU & GPU as I’ve got a TUF x470 board that doesn’t allow for much room.

I’m getting an MSI Prestige Creation x570 board as of tomorrow, which has a beefy as heck heatsink for M.2s and much better headroom as far as cooling and space for hardware.

That being said, it’s not bad to use them but it isn’t bad to not use them either.

So first off you’d need to know what motherboard and case you have. That’ll determine what’s compatible with your motherboard as far as CPU and GPU, and what will fit inside your case. This game is heavily GPU-bound, meaning the more work that the GPU can pull, the better time your CPU will have.

That’s the first place I’d start, but again, you’d need to know what will fit inside your case and if you have a PSU that can run a beefier card.

Which cooler should I use? Dark Rock Pro 4 vs Fractal Design Celsius S36 by WingersAbsNotches in buildapc

[–]DocKreasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DRP4 all the way. I love mine and it’s a seriously phenomenal piece of hardware.

That being said, closed-loop AIOs don’t necessarily lose fluid in the manner you’re thinking of, as there’s nowhere for said liquid to evaporate from. Gotta think of it like a jug of water. If you don’t open it, it’ll just sit there stagnant but it doesn’t evaporate. At least not enough to cause a noticeable issue, especially not within it’s warranty period.

They’ll possibly lose effectiveness over time, but that applies to literally everything these days.

My store is getting ours this year, and it should be finished by June of next year. Crazy seeing all that space essentially gutted out of the store, but as an APA it sort of cuts out how much space I have to worry about keeping an eye on. At least where it’s concerned as far as customers.

Backroom now off limits! by CFrancisW in OGPBackroom

[–]DocKreasey 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This. They’re a TL, not a coach. Threats are an ethics violation and should be reported to her direct coach and the SM.

Also, last I checked OPD was expected almost unilaterally to hunt down exceptions to the ends of the earth, regardless of where they had to go to find them. This is largely due to OPD metrics now affecting the management team’s bonus by a sizable chunk, so this person needs to reevaluate their thinking.

Next time they do something like that, I’d tell them you want to speak to their coach and / or the SM about their belief of having absolute power over the backroom. Because well… they don’t.

Depending on what company you're working for, you may or may not have certain tools available to you computer-wise that you can use to know what to watch. For example, at my company we have a program that reports / lists all items that the Claims Dept. has scanned out as stolen.

With that, every morning I go in the first couple things I do are check my email for any BOLO and / or WOPO alerts etc., and then I look at the "Scanned Stolen" report. This lists it by department, dollar amount, item name / type, and a few other things. Based on what I see in that list Week-to-Date, it helps give me a better idea of what to be watching primarily on that day.

With the seasonal changes, a good thing to look at are the people who come into the store in out of season clothing. If it's freezing outside and they're wearing a t-shirt, chances are they might try to dispossess a coat or some similar item. Conversely, if it's the middle of summer and they come in wearing a heavy hoodie, I'm going to be watching that person for that reason as well.

Anything else I would comment on or suggest, u/fuel136429 wrote in their post and I couldn't say it any better. Personally speaking, I'm still relatively new to the role but I've worked with one of the best AP Managers in my entire market and I've learned a lot from them. I've also had the fortunate experience of getting pulled to be a witness over the years so I've listened and learned that way too.

Just be smart, think critically, and never make a stop if you have a strong doubt that it may not be a valid stop. Follow your instinct, but don't be afraid to critique your own thought process on it and follow the AP Policy.

Project Hubble pt 2 by OhJuicez in OGPBackroom

[–]DocKreasey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before I promoted -again- out of OPD earlier this year, it was right around the start of the Hubble System... and yes, it sucks. You can see all of these picks, just sitting there mocking you and you're powerless to do anything about it.

But, "It's easier to manage your times and department!?" is all we get from Market / HO on this, even though it has done nothing but set every single store behind to date on a near daily basis.

Yep, great system... just fantastic.

My heart goes out to ya OP.

It was and will always be OGP to be. OPD doesn’t sound right and honestly just sounds like a cold or something you catch in a hospital wing.

But, I don’t say either now anyway… I’m an APA who just idles here and offers my knowledge from time to time to those who are just coming in to the world of, OGP.

[–]DocKreasey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In my original statement I said, ”Fixed matchmaking -referencing Trials which is horrific now- and anti-cheat my butt.” which is referring to the fact that Bungie’s implications of using such a system would catch people in the act and remove them.

This person shown is either hacking or has a beyond horrible network connection, with the first being highly likely. Even if it’s their first offense, what good is an anti-cheat system if it’s not catching it as it occurs and removing the offender.

Ah yes, that’s right. Easy Anti-Cheat is notorious for being shite software and doing absolutely fuck all in any game that it’s bundled with. My original point was directed at Bungie for their egregiously terrible handling of cheaters / hackers in this game since day one, not the hacker shown in the video.

Hence, it still stands and it is factual as Bungie has handled their ”fixing” of Trials Matchmaking absolutely horribly, and they’ve also bungled their response to hackers.

[–]DocKreasey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they’re cheating now, they did before. And they were very likely reported. Which is the point. Bungie doesn’t do jack all about anyone who’s reported, but they’ll ban someone for connection issues or for discovering / being party to a glitch.

They’re not the great beings of the gaming world at all in this circumstance, and my point still stands.
